How the fuck can keychron afford to sell the c3 pro? It's $25 and a qmk tkl , at first I thought it was membrane but it's still a full mech keyboard
>>102323144I've seen at my local equivalent of wallmart mech keyboard for 10€ and that's in europe with 25% tax. So someone makes those before shipping & tax for what 5€. How is that possible. It has blue switches, backlight and all.
>>102323144Imagine how cheap keyboards actually are then. We're getting alu case boards on ali for $50 now. Most companies have been fucking you over and making millions on net income.
>>102322916for some reason - and I can't quite put my finger on it - I have a conjecture that OP is an avid GAYMER. Just a thought.
>>102323144Do you see why some anons say stuff like ducky and some of keychon's lineup being overpriced as fuck now? The most expensive part of a keyboard is going to be is it's pcb. Everything else from case to switches are dirt cheap, especially stock Cherrys like blue or brown switches. The only reason aliexpress keyboards are not mandatory buys is because their pcbs are questionable in terms of quality. But if you buy the standalone custom pcbs and wire some switches in you will have a keyboard for as low 100 or even 50 dollars which will have build quality comparable to most custom brands.
>>102323647I remember when the TKL alu cases were being sold for around $80 on there a few years ago. It is clear that the demand has lowered the price enough for them operate on cheaper margins like that. Of course this makes you ask if the Chinese can afford to do sell at smaller profit margins how big must the profit margins be for your PREMIUM BRANDS.
need diamond key caps. should not be too expensive with synthetic diamonds. also the price to do it should fall every year.
Ortholinear only makes sense with split keyboards, is that true? That's what reddit tells me. That q15 keychron seems enticing though
>>102322916
>>102324205>case is dirt cheaponly at very high MoQ.>especially stock cherriesI'm sure manufacturers get a better price than you or I when they order in huge quantities but I doubt this is "dirt cheap">Keychron is overpricedYou are replying to someone saying Keychron offers a very cheap board, and I'm willing to bet it's not as fully-featured as their $100 offerings
>>102322916Is the alice layout a meme?
>>102324962Ortho doesn't make sense split or otherwise in the first place anyway since your fingers aren't all the same size.
>>102325127>uses layout to mimic split boards>not actually splitYes, it's a meme.
>>102325127a cool looking meme, but ergonomic benefits are minimal to something like a split. varies from person to person obviously
>>102325127Kinda? It is better than most other non-ergonomic keyboards out there but there are still far more ergonomic designs you can go for instead that would do a better job for you long term. The truth is the layout is made more to appeal to anons who are used to the traditional office membrane ergonomic keyboards like the dozen of microsoft 4000 ergo clones out in the wild.>>102325015>only at very high MoQNot really. You can get cheap individual cases.>I'm sure manufacturers get a better price than you or I when they order in huge quantities but I doubt this is "dirt cheap"They defiantly do. But you can still get a shit ton of stock cherrys for under 10 dollars as they are one of the most widely manufactured keyboard switches out there. I have seen 10 cherry switches sold for 1 dollar a set and that is not taking into account wholesale pricing.>You are replying to someone saying Keychron offers a very cheap boardYeah and they brought it up because usually Keychron sell far more expensive boards. In terms of features you might be right but there are other cheap keyboards out there which have comparable capabilities.
>>102325498then why are numpads so satisfying to use?
>>102325805Because you are literally pic rel anon.
>>102325856provide a more compelling argument against ortholinear before i spend my money, PLEASE
>>102325914If you are going to do it just do it anon. Its your money to burn.

>>102326122fuck forgot pic rel
>>102326147That's a pretty sick board. Probably costs an arm and a leg, though.
>>102326147>0>00>000kek, what a worthless currency
what is the quietest mkb full sized?for office and streaming
>>102326260Most mkbs with linear switches like cherry reds or blakcs should be quite enough. There are a ton of old office mechanical keyboards out there with them installed which you can find on ebay such as pic rel. Other than that there is Topre, but there are not many normal full sized keyboards and they are not traditional mechanical keyboards. But if you want quiet they are the quietest keyboards on the market which are not membrane.

>>102326928Its literally pretty gay but serviceable.
I wanted a Keychron K5 Pro for its low-profile keys but it seems like there isn't many silent switches for them.Keychron V6 Wired with 3 sets of 35 pieces of Sea Salt Silent switches, is there a better solution for a very silent mechanical ? I need a numpad, a next song button and a volume knob would be nice
>>102325608>You can get cheap individual cases. Not if it's a new mould you can't
>>102327191sea salt silents sound good, I haven't used any other silents. If you aren't used to linears it might be worth looking for a silent tactile. Also on epomaker's website they only advertise the sea salt switches, but on their amazon store they sell both the normal sea salts and the sea salt silent, so make sure you get the right ones.
Where do yall go to buy old/vintage keyboards? I know ebay is an obvious one but I want to expand my horizons (can't do local as there are no e-waste sites that allow for purchasing).
>>102328554Deskthority, probably.
>hyped up for months>claimed to transform the keyboard landscape>allegedly sturdy and nice switches>its open source>as customisable as you want it due to it being 3d printed>as cheap as the filament you use>different filament types can make it multi material>"endgame">never heard of again>anons still buy keebs insteadWhat happened /mkg/?

What is the largest macropad I can buy?
>>1023243001. Cost of production is just much lower in China for various reasons, including lower cost of living for workers, proximity to other local industries, immunity to American lawsuits over IP/etc., and generally pro-industry policy by their communist government. 2. The 'technology' for cheap customs has been advancing. There have been all kinds of new tricks in board design discovered for reducing CNC time, and no doubt the manufacturers are learning things as well. The cost coming down is not simply a pricing decision, but reflects improvements in industrial efficiency as the hobby matures.3. These cheap boards are run in very large buys with MoQ way above what any normal group buy runner could afford to gamble on. Misjudging the market for a huge MoQ run could financially ruin someone. 4. Sub-$150 there is often some corner-cutting on finishing, packaging, etc.
>>102331466That makes a lot of sense actually

Opionion of the logitech mx mechanical? Just ordered one for work, i like the mx master 3 mouse so i figure this keyboard will be pretty good
I have a $10 keyboard
>>102333782NA keyboard vendor here. I was talking to my guy in China and he said LICHICX (Lucy) is ceasing switch production. Stock up while you can.
>>102338452Tbf that is a shit model
>thread approaching page 9 at only 60 repliesThis is what happens when almost every response is just buy/use keychron.
>>102341182it's the other manufacturers' fault for making such shit keyboards. With Keychron you know what you're getting
>>102341182Well, Keychron is just our easy defacto recommendation. Back in the old days it was Leopold. Their boards aren't top tier, but if someone was using a shitty rubber dome their whole life it would probably be such a huge improvement that they would never bother with anything else again. Me? I'm waiting for my Type-B to finally arrive so I can build the damn thing. Should be here within the next month or two unless there's another delay (again)
>>102329568The Chinks shot him
>>102329744Bridge75. Do it.
>>102323144>>102323647Production at small scale is way more expensive.Companies making cheap switches also take a lot of cost cutting measures making them more likely to chatter and change key feel.I had those cheap keyboards change feeling like a rubber dome after like 10k presses. They were too expensive but margins weren't as high as you might think
>>102333379are dactyls really the end game?
>>102342095They are for me at least. Been using them for a few years now and I have no desire to switch to any other kind of board.
>>102342129are you the anon that makes them?how long does it take to get used to it? How durable is the 3d printed plastic?
>>102342164Yea I build them. It's not as daunting of a switch as you might think. When I first switched to an ergodox it took like 1-2 weeks to get back to my normal WPM. The biggest hangup for me was getting used to how the bottom row was no longer shifted over by 0.5u. Going from an ergodox to a dactyl took basically no time at all. Right now I'm faster than I ever was with a row staggered board.
got my 'mystery switches' from Cannonkeys, 6x premium and 6x budget. I asked in the order notes if they could err on the side of variety with my ideal mix being 2+2+2, and that's exactly what they did so that was cool of them. One looks like maybe box whites but otherwise I have no idea what any of these are. Are they all memeshit? Are some good actually? I'm gonna find out. Which should I build first?
>>102343057umm light blue on the right middle.
>>102343057ok I checked and all six are linears. fml(although I don't hate linears)
>>102343235actually now that I think about it I already have enough tactiles to know what I do and don't like, so more tactiles wouldn't have been a good thing anyway. Linears are probably much better to round out my options

Currently using an HHKB pro classic, but my inability to learn proper touch typing + forearm fatigue make me want to get a split keyboard setup. Please give me advice on buying an ergo split keyboard, thanks.
>>102343641Wrong.
>>102343942PS I don't know shit about keyboards, my interest for aesthetic is moderate, and I bought the HHKB because I like products designed and manufactured by autistic Japanese dudes who care about what they build.
>>102343942>my inability to learn proper touch typing...thats a thing people struggle with? I am an autist who cant reach 50 wpm without looking but at standard pace I can still touch type. Its not even something I practiced it was something I was oblivious to for years until I came across the subject and realised it was something I did all the time. What do you consider to be "proper touch typing"?
When will amazon start selling choc nocturnal/twilight? Those fuckimg keeb shops in germany and netherlands dont sell with VAT invoice. I need silent switches but I also need a vat invoice
>>102344061> What do you consider to be "proper touch typing"?Having a proper "resting" position that results in optimal fingering (like keeping the index fingers on "F" and "J", instead of left on "Shift S D F Space" and right on "; ' Return Fn"). I rarely look down at my keys to orientate myself, but I suspect my fingering to be subpar, which affects my speed and my precision.
>>102341672I got one and it's pretty great, you can probably build something better for the price but it's arguably the best foam-packed pre-built out there
>>102343547loool ws mizu aurora is literally just an aurora clear recolor, they recolored it to match a themed keycap set. so two of the switches they sent you are the samethe good news is you have enough to do a full-size

>>102346325
>>102346315looks nice. very reserved look to it.
>>102333379you should try make a more compact one with choc switches. curious how that would look.
>>102346359Would require not only changing the switchplate, but the PCBs too. Not really worth the effort for a board that isn't "portable" in the first place.
>>102346374some people enjoy the shorter travel of keys, smaller hands, etc.i'm not interested directly, just curious how it would look compared to a normal dactyl. and if you have downtime while having the tools, you'd be the first to create it.you don't need new pcbs for a 'test' though.the old fashioned way works.
>>102346424I'm saying it's not a trivial amount of effort to modify the board for choc switches (even ignoring the PCB side). Not something I'm gonna do a whim. Closest you're gonna see to that is a glove80.
>>102326122>>102326147Which keyboard is this?
I tried split keyboard by plugging two keyboards in...pretty weird feeling desu but there is some releif in having my shoulders more open. posture seems better.

>>102347441Got any good recommendations for max 200 dollar with similar layout and function as K70?RGB lights not wanted or needed, but its fine if they can be turned off.
What you're looking for is a full size keyboard with multimedia keys and a volume knob or wheel. If you ignore multimedia and volume, there's tons. I'm actually on the hunt for one right now for my mom.
>>102347476>>102347516Sorry, it's late and I didn't quote, oops.

>>102347575I used to but I replaced the knob and mute with a beacn mix create when I got rid of my k70.
>>102347603>beacn mix createJust looked at that, that's some crazy overkill unless you are a big time streamer.Massive waste of money.
>>102347708There's much cheaper alternatives elsewhere such as one with a big knob and 3-6 buttons. I agree although it's convenient but definitely not something I'd ever recommend.

>>102351399There's beige one up on ebay right now for $399.00 USD.
>>102351533but then it'll take even LONGER before they get shiny and worn.
>>102351547Good! Also, you'll get to see something different every season. Or if you have more than 4 keycap sets that you like, swap them out every time you clean your keycaps. I'm assuming you clean your keyboard more than 4 times a year.
>>102351573With today's set coming in i'll have 4 complete sets, 2 of them SA ABS, 2 of them MT3 PBT.And at the moment I'm only cleaning my board about twice a year but that's cause I've been lazy.I'm getting low on spare switches, only about a dozen left so I'll probably buy a new set of switches and spend some time swapping out switches, keycaps, and do a deep clean of the board at that time.

Pulled the trigger last minute on a Keychron K2 HE, will be my first Keychron assuming I actually get one. Current keeb's a split 65XT Quefrency using Durock Shrimps, I enjoy using it but I might change the switches. Thinking of getting new domes for an old topre board. What are the aftermarket replacement domes like and which are the best to buy? I am an Neanderthal that likes my switches tactile and as loud as possible which I doubt any dome can provide the latter but I am hoping they can provide the former. I think the switches are short throw but I don't think that will effect dome choice.

After 7 years my MasterKeys Pro S has started to experience some issues so I'm looking to replace it. Unfortunately it has been discontinued and coolermaster doesn't have a replacement model.Anything out there today that matches it in size / aesthetic? It has the exact key layout I like, no numpad and the arrow keys / home / end keys aren't cramped together in an awkward position, and there is no massive bezel around it with a gaudy logo / over the top design. Only thing I missed on it was a context menu key but I just remapped the second windows key & FN key since they are useless to me. Blue switches of course
>>102361878It's very common so you're in luck. Look for an 80% / tenkeyless. Just double check that they didn't move any keys and you'll be fine. I'd recommend getting one that's hot swappable.

>>102370436How much you wanna spend?
>>102370527No upper limit (within reason for PBT keycaps, so not $5/cap metal ones or something).
>>102358751it sucks when someone has like a great condition alps keyboard and they do this bs and then it just sits on ebay indefinitely.
>>102361878honestly if youre willing to give up backlighting you can just buy a used filco majestouch for like $40 on ebay. its a higher quality keyboard but the keycaps are very cheap.
>>102370436You're in luck anon. Just need some topre/mx adapters and you are set.
>>102367609the inky75 is on sale for $69 right now just buy that and swap switches
What keycaps or colorway would you get with this board? Open to spending up to $100.
>>102370839I'd try these ones in "cream" and pray it actually matches as close as it seems it couldhttps://clickclack.io/collections/in-stock-keycaps-1/products/jtk-hsa-profile-keycapsBut a safer bet would be to go for something with contrast, obviously. This might look cute:https://www.keykobo.com/products/key-kobo-helleborus
>>102370839what other colors are there in your setup? monitor, cable, mouse, deskmat or mousepad, etc
>>102370872Why the fuck didn't they use renders. I don't wanna see some old man's pubes on keyboard pics.
>>102370872Might go with cream I guess. The WoB isn't too bad either as a contrast.>>102370898Deskmat, mouse, sky blue. Monitor black. Cable, desk, white. I don't really care about setup matching desu considering how easy I mess around with it depending on my mood.
>>102370912I hate renders, real production colors can differ from renders.
>>102370839https://novelkeys.com/collections/keycaps/products/gmk-cyl-black-snail-keycapsGMK black snail, you can get base kit for under $100, and it's beige-on-black so nice contrast but ties into the board's color
Is there some specific name for the style of keys where all the rows are uniform height and orientation and do not protrude too much from the body of the keyboard?I'm looking for a replacement for my decade+ old Sidewinder X4 that's starting to bind up when typing and it's not looking good. Seems like the most common type of keys these days is very tall, very "separate" from each other (don't know how else to put it), and with different rows having different orientations for some godforsaken reason.
>>102371204Those kinds of profiles are called non-sculpted, and options do exist.
>>102371232"Uniform" is the more common name.
>>102371204Unless you want a low profile board, kam, dsa, or xda might be your preference.
>>102371322DSA looks the closest to what I'm used to.Any fullsize board recommendations?Or do I need to buy the board and the keys separately, and swap them in?
>>102371505I think keychron and monsgeek have several full size boards based on plastic and aluminum. You can get it barebone or full built and just replace keycaps, all up to you. You can also just buy a prebuilt board like a leopold and just replace the keycaps as well.
>>102367383>>102351464Opened up both sets and put them in a storage tray for when i get new switches and do a full deep clean and swap caps then.
Are cherry mx2a switches on ali legit? Slightly more expensive than regular sites, but no shipping cost makes it cheaper. Can't tell if it's actual mx2a though or older stock like hg.
>>102371990Ali is a marketplace, it depends on the store. I've never been scammed on Aliexpress yet but it could happen.

>>102375128>red switches sounds quieter than expectedLinear reds have always been pretty quiet all things considered. Only things quieter are some custom meme switches which have questionable feel.>>102375182>yeah years of dell/microsoft office membrane keyboards made me scared to try a real size keyboardI am surprised you didn't go for a Topre if you are that membrane inclined. They are even some of the quietest boards available. Honestly though there is no real discernible difference between low profile and standard profile keycaps. Your hands are just positioned a half inch higher which is not that significant and key travel time is not really noticeable unless you want a thinkpad instant tactile bottom out.
>>102375547I was not aware of topree and their quietness, but even then I would have never spent 300usd for my first mechanical. I will keep that in mind if I become a freak like you guys, thank you

>>102375181It's accents, I wouldn't have used them anyway.
just cleaned my keyboard with 10 years of accumulated gamer gunk. it was like 50/50 hair and dead skin. you couldn't actually see the base of it with the height of the layer of it all. I didn't have any compressed air so I blew on it after removing the main chunks and it choked me out

I know it's not a mechanical keyboard but I'm looking for a download link to the Corsair K57 wireless keyboard firmware, anyone know where I can download it? I need the .bin file not iCue trash btw
>>102381012AFAIK there is no way to flash it without icue, and if the board isn't being detected by icue you need to go into the registry and delete a corsair folder, uninstall icue, restart your PC, reinstall icue, then update the firmware from icue.If that doesn't work you're probably fucked.
>>102381052Yes there is a way, you can boot it in "CRP Disabld" state and have access to the firmware.bin file, I need to update it this way because I have an issue with both SHIFT keys not capitalizing characters despite the keys being detected, flashing the firmware from iCue doesn't solve the issue, I need to factory reset it with the firmware but Corsair customer service are being useless pieces of shit asking me dumb questions like "is the keyboard in the right layout" and dumb stuff like this.

What's the cheapest GMK set out there I can buy? Kinda miffed I missed out on the $50 GMK Fuji from CannonKeys a few months back.
>>102382938Like other anon said, just aesthetic. Keyboards usually don't move much so I doubt scratching will be a big issue. On that note, people go for Lemo or YC8 straight cables now. Less bulky but still aesthetic.
how is DURGOD as a brand? Never heard of them but I was looking at the Taurus K320, like the form factor and no frills nature of it. I want something that won't break on my in 5+ years

>>102384385as long as your expectations are that it's a regular cable it just looks kinda neat, then you'll be fine.
>>102342095Depends on a lot on your idealistic interpretation of your workflow.
