Do you care about thermals, performance and battery life? If not, then get the Pixel for the camera. If yes, get a Samsung or wait for next year when Google will finally use TSMC chips in the Pixel 10 lineup, for real for real this time trust the plan...
>>
>>102384567
thermals, performance, battery life are not concerns on the pixel 9 pro.
>>
>>102384494
If you're in america it's debatable, if you're in europe then the pixel is definitely better

Pixels went to shit when they stopped using flagship snapdragons
>>
>>102384638
No. They are still more than fast enough for daily tasks, they just won't run a couple unoptimized games quite as well as Snapdragon. With the 10 they will partner with TSMC and hopefully it will result in better thermals and raw performance.

But honestly performance isn't an issue, even on my two year old Pixel 7

It's genuinely impressive how iPhones processing gets WORSE with each newer phone. In a blind test that LMG did people preferred the old Smart HDR algorithm of the iPhone XR than the 14 (iirc).

Plus, we've got a new high MP sensor but the processing does not take advantage of it whatsoever, and distant detail is muddy and oversharpened despite the RAWs being really crisp even when cropping in A LOT

The colour rendition has no soul whatsoever

Imaginary_Slice950 2 points 1 year ago
It is anecdotal, but when I look at the older photos I did with XR a few years ago and then SE, I really enjoy them much more than the ones I did with my current one (13 Pro). Videos - another story, apparent progress. But the photos while objectively better, numerically speaking, are not as pleasing to the eyes compared to what I was getting from older iPhones. It seems Apple gave up its original approach to photo processing (that was not technically ideal but produced a very lovely end result) to a conventional race for "numbers"

Yes, they did that to get 10 years of updates.
FP5 is an IoT SD778G, supported until 2031, while FP4 (750G) is until 2028.
You see if that's enough for you.

If all you want is a better screen and more battery, I don't see why those are your two options. The Samsung Galaxy A55 sounds right up your wheelhouse, but you will have to see whether the camera is an upgrade (it's considered weak in a modern context). Idk how good the iPhone 7 camera is

More durable than usual or just a good quality phone? New or used? Generally if you can get a phone with an SD8+G1 chip or higher, those should perform well for years to come. Posting just to vent a bit and seek advise:
My Zenfone 9 is dead (I had a brain fart and pierced the battery while fixing a loose cable) and I'm so done with it...
I loved the size, screen quality and smoothness, yet it never played nice with my carrier, calls were always an issue and battery life was mediocre.
If my old Mi 9T pro wasn't so worn out and dated (custom roms are unstable shit in this day and age), I would just use it as my daily.
I can't get any Xperia or the Snapdragon S24, I'd have to settle with Exyshit

TLDR:
I need a reliable, durable phone that is sub 6.4", smooth as fuck (never game on my phones), has a pretty screen and great battery life for less than $650 USD

THIS. Smartphones reached their final form around five years ago and it's not just minor incremental updates every year to keep the normies buying (which even they are no longer doing as much).

I bought a Pixel 7 when it was released and it still works perfectly, I plan to use it until it's no longer usable. Until then, I couldn't care less about what new phone comes out and don't understand why anyone else does either.

>The latest word comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In his Power On newsletter last month, he said he expects the next iPhone SE to launch in the spring of 2025. All three existing iPhone SE models were announced in March over the years, so it seems likely that the fourth-generation model will also be introduced in March next year.

>Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and the technology publication The Information also previously claimed that the next iPhone SE will launch in the first quarter of 2025, so that timeframe has been corroborated by multiple sources. The Information said that Apple suppliers would begin ramping up mass production of the device in October.

I bought my first Android device since ~2013 recently and would like to post a brief review, as there don't seem to be many online for this device and it may interest someone.
The device is an Onn 11" Tablet Pro (2023). My intended use for the device is reading comic books, and the review will reflect that. Onn is Walmart's in-house technology brand. I paid $139. I've had it for a week.
It's got an 11" 60hz IPS LCD with 2000x1200 resolution.
The LCD is very nicely laminated to the glass, panel gap is minimal. It's not perfect, but extremely nice given the price. Color quality and brightness aren't great, but acceptable for reading comic books in a moderately lit space. Minimum brightness is a bit bright for my preference. Bezels are thin.
Touch sensitivity feels a bit 'off' compared to what I'm used to. I'm unsure if this is a device specific issue or just me being used to iOS.
It's built okay, but does not feel nice to hold. It's too thin, a bit too long, the edges are too sharp, and the metal finish feels bad. At least it isn't a fingerprint magnet.
It does not feel particularly durable, and I treat it gingerly as a result. I would not hand it to a child unless I was alright it it breaking.
Storage is 128gb and it has a microSD card slot. Good enough.
It runs Android 13, seemingly nearly bone-stock. The Walmart app was preinstalled, but can be uninstalled. There is zero other Walmart integration anywhere and zero ads, which, for an Amazon Fire tablet competitor, is surprising and nice to see.
Wifi works, and is surprisingly fast for an 802.11ac device.
Performance is good enough for reading comics.
It comes with a USB-C charging block and cheap feeling USB-C cable.
In conclusion: It's an excellent $139 comic book machine.
>>
>>102395797
alldocube is better, they just released a newer version thats 90hz and large screen and 10k mah
>>
>>102395872
It doesn't seem better for reading comics, and it costs more. Looks cool though!
>>
>>102395922
bigger screen, higher resolution and more nits are all better for reading comics, and its only 35 dollars more and thats not including the rest of the specs that are better than onn
>>
>>102395975
11" is already quite large, a 12.1" device would be a downgrade for me. 90hz and a brighter screen would be nice to have, but not in exchange for an even larger device.

Which audio tuning and speaker system is the best with smartphones and sounds great for you, Hi-Res Audio (which usually or often is also Dolby Atmos) or DTS X/DTS X Ultra?

Though sometimes in some phones, especially more recent Infinix Phones, there's also "tuned by JBL". And in some other phones like the Xiaomi Mi 12 phones and Blackview rugged phones I've also seen "tuned by Harman Kardon."

Which sound system and tuning do you like or think is the best for phones?
>>
>>102396203
I have phones with both. The problem with dts is that when there's bass in the song you can hear a weird volume difference as it tries to push the speaker to reproduce that sound. Assuming all effects are disabled, but you just keep the speaker tuning enabled.

>a-Shell is a complete local terminal emulator, allowing to run most Unix commands on you iOS device. You can transfer files using scp and curl, edit them with vim and ed, process them using grep, awk and sed. You can work with git repositories using lg2.

>Most commands are compiled for iOS native Arm64 format, making them fast and well integrated with iOS underlying BSD Unix.

>a-Shell includes Python, Lua, Perl, JavaScript, C, C++ for programming and TeX (texlive 2023, with Tikz and LuaTeX) for text processing.

There are also multiple network utilities: nslookup, ping, whois, ifconfig... Type help for help, help -l to get the full list of commands.

a-Shell can be controlled from Shortcuts: run commands in order, process files in a-Shell, get the results as text or files, transfer files to other apps...

a-shell uses iOS 13+ “multiple windows” ability, so you can run multiple shells at the same time, with different commands, in different directories. You can edit a file in one window with vim and process it in the other with python.

Compile your C or C++ programs to webAssembly using clang or clang++, and execute the resulting binary. A complete webAssembly SDK is included (WASI-libc).

Then either one is fine, honestly. You're not gonna notice a huge difference between the two.

That looks like an acceptable solution.

I still use an XZ1 Compact (4.6 inch 16:9).
Thinking of getting a Nothing Phone 2a (6.7 inch 20:9).
Is Nothing Phone 2(a) any good?
I wanted to get an iPhone 13 Mini since it's the same exact size as the XZ1 Compact, but I just fucking hate Apple.

>>102404793
Yeah, I am probably going to go with the s24 ultra

samsung is buggin out with their pricing rn, just ordered a 1Tb navy blue Fold6 for $1087+tax with no trade-in. would have been 824$ if i traded in my pixel fold so I decided to keep it, will probably bless one of my friends with it for 300$

only thing i've encountered of note is that scrolling in some apps can be a bit jagged, though reports are that it's cleared up in the android 15 beta
if you play mihoyo games you'll find the gpu's performance underwhelming
having a great time with my 9 XL overall though

Got my Moto g84 5G a few days ago. The price for performance and feature ratio is actually very good. The only thing I'm fussy about is the fact that the battery could be 1000mAh bigger. Other than that it has it all:
>p-oled 1080p 120hz DCI-p3 screen
>256GB ROM 12GB RAM
>Snapdragon 695 5G (tho not a powerful chipset, it works well in day to day use)
>SD card slot single sim or dual SIM
>3.5mm audio out (Dolby Atmos if you're into that)
>Almost clean Android 14 (slight Motorola mods applied)
All that for almost $250
Still need to test out the cameras tho. Although I don't think /g/ uses their cameras as often lol

The Moto G64 was what the Moto G Power 5G 2024 should have been
>IPS LCD 120Hz
>Dimensity 7025 (WAY better than the Dimensity 7020)
>has a 12GB RAM version
>Also has a 3.5mm jack and micro sd card

Also, the Snapdragon 695 is utter shit on my OnePlus Nord N30 5G. It's a testament to how good Moto's software is if you're having a smooth experience

I completely forgot that modern Samsung phones don't have a headphone jack. I guess using my s10+ for 5 years has spoiled me but also I now have to wait a week now to get an adapter shipped to me so no music in my car.
>>
>>102404650
get the samsung, i had a pixel fold from preorder and loved the outer display form factor and thinness but the performance and software was way inferior to samsung. now this year they ruined the form factor and the weird bezel on one side looks so poopy wheras the z fold looks fire with almost symmetrical thin bezels inside and out and a better square design, and a way better processor

false, any $5 cable off amazon/aliexpress will do
gone are the days of proprietary dex-only cables made by samsung for $50

false unless you really have to connect multiple pieces of wired hardware for whatever reason, but then again chinesium dock is like $10 unlike deprecated dex-station

Is there any appreciable benefit, in terms of battery longevity, to charging my phone REALLY slowly? I found that the USB-C port on my motherboard will output up to 15W, whereas the USB-A ports will only output 2.5W max. Even at 2.5W my phone charges "fast" enough for me, so should I use those ports? Or does it just not matter at all beyond a certain point?
>>
>>102408293
Depends. If you intend to keep your phone for 6 plus years, then yes. If you change it in 2 to 3 years, then no.
>>
>>102408293
what matter is that you unplug the USB cable whenever it finishes charging
>>
>>102388802
You just have to do the same thing I do now on a Samsung, I installed microg for YouTube revanced I think. Only things that apparently don't work are Google pay and android auto, if you need those then too bad
>>
>>102408293
In general, the lesser the power, the better for the battery, try to keep it between 20 and 80% at all times and it'll last for years. That being said, I wouldn't be so patient, and 15W is good, won't generate much heat.
>>
which android phones have the least amout of preinstalled bloatware apps?
>>
>>102408293
unlike some anon from this or the previous thread
my mi 9t pro still works. i used samsung's slow 15w charger and not the included 30(?)w one
>>
pretty much this >>102408372
>>
>>102408914
>20 and 80% at all times
To add to this, charging to 100% once in a while is okay as long as you charge it and then use it right away. For example, unplugging it at 100% just as you're leaving home and then using it at high brightness for Waze navigation in the car. Keeping it at high % for long periods of time, such as when it's sitting on the charger all night, is what actually does a lot of damage to the battery. Doing a full cycle to 100% once in a while when it's necessary for a long day trip or something is fine.
>>
>>102409095
Some brands, like Asus and Samsung give you the option to cap the charge at 80%, if you enable this and leave the phone to charge at night there won't be any damage(I think).
>>
Best android phone for 600$?
>>
>>102409117
>won't be any damage
That's true. I'm talking about the times you need those last 20% to last a long and demanding day.
>>
>get iphone
>can't listen to HiRes Tidal unless you buy Apple Airpods® Pro™ (even if you already have $200 heaphones that support LDAC
>can't use my current smartwatch because it's WearOS and they don't have any integration with it (so buy an Apple Watch ;))) )
>can't fuck around with coding for iOS unlike Android with Android Studio (unless you buy a Mac ;) )
Apple are such fucking greedy cunts, holy shit. You literally have to buy everything else again if you switch to them.
>>
>>102409133
Yeah, I agree. The best compromise is to use the full battery and the fast charging only when you actually need them.

I'm at my country's capital for university stuff and everyone on public transport has modern iPhones, and it's mostly Pro models with the 3 cameras and dyanmic island too. I'm talking everyone from little kids in like 5th grade, to my fellow university students, to even auntie and uncle type characters.

Can you find a brand new S23 or S24 for that price?
>Snapdragon S24 > Snapdragon S23 = Exynos S24
>>
>>102409144
It's only going to get worse. They're running out of ways to nickel and dime their consumer base and they'll have to invent some more bullshit soon. I'm predicting an iOS yearly fee for "advanced" features, like Apple Intelligence.
>>
>>102409301
It makes sense, they have to use public transport because they've spent their car budget on iToys
>>
>>102409495
How about bricking the phone for anything besides the most basic features like calls, sms and taking 1x photos with the main camera after the 2 year warranty period, and then force you to either finance a new iPhone or pay an extension fee monthly.
>>
Sup, I need an iPhone for work, not really looking to do anything with it other than that and use it to make calls/messages/WhatsApp/maybe the occasional photo.

Is an SE 2022 a bad idea for my use cases? I found some refurbished for like $200.
>>
>>102409621
Can you find an 11 for cheaper and in good battery health? Otherwise just get the SE3 and beware the battery life or carry a charger or battery bank.
>>
>>102405791
I am close to getting this, but the sole reason I'm holding back is because looking at Android 15 it surprisingly looks like an actually massive upgrade that I'd be willing to buy a phone that will actually get it over on that won't. Otherwise I'd specifically buy this because it seems to do tons of stuff more expensive phones don't.

I'd love to be able to just pay more for something slightly better but otherwise on parity, but that doesn't seem to exist where I am.
>>
>>102409301
you live in turkey or somewhere like that where people have severe status anxiety?
>>
>>102410104
An European country which borders Turkey, but close enough. People see iPhones as status symbols here too. Bunch of my friends swapped over to iPhones as soon as they started working and became able to afford them.
>Why spend 1200 euro on an Android, when I can buy an iPhone 15 Pro for that price?

>>102410127
yeah balkan so bulgaria or greece

people are too broke to afford city penthouses but they can afford passable gucci knock offs and iphones, yeah it's sad although iphones are good phones I won't say they are not
