Our profession is at risk. One way to ensure that you can program for a living no matter what happens is to interact with the market directly. How hard is it to create a micro-saas solo?

it's far more difficult that you can imagine, 50% of it is marketing which is hell. there are no online tools for marketing.

Are you the guy who does all the work on the group project, or are you one of the 19 other people who does just enough to look busy to not get fired?

Not op but I've been both

it's impossible, everything that can be done; has been done. it's all oversaturated.

anything's impossible if you're an annoying reductionist

call me demoralized but how the fuck can you do a micro-saas solo today. maybe if you live in some island where the cost of living is super low with your hut and coconuts and a starlink subscription. It's fucking over man, it's not doable.

You're supposed to make something artsy and fun with a lot of personality to garner a cult following and then trade off to the data-driven globohomo model after you reach the end of the early adopter audience. Most devs will fail because they completely jump the gun and dive straight into cold data-driven by the book design which is repulsive to people who think they're special, which is the demographic you want to piggyback off of.

learn economics before asking silly questions. Now because of wide spread highly capable AI, chatGPT o mini is literally free to use without an account, any piece of software is sufficiently trivial to replicate. We saw this in the indie game space for a while because of off the shelf assets being glued together to recreate whatever is successful. You're stuck in a loop of being FOTM in a very saturated space. You need to anchor whatever you're doing to the real world that some software sweatshop in India can't clone in a week for two dollars on Fiverr. Here's one idea, at home assistant for the elderly, it's the fastest growing segment of new jobs because of how many boomers need someone to literally wash their clothes and move groceries for min wage. Don't like this? figure out something else that doesn't require some piece of paper to get in because unlike medicine/law/engineering, software doesn't have any requirements or protected titles, not even IT, A+ is just a nice to have and so on. You need to really make yourself useful outside of the computer

Take something that already exists, find what audience they tailored the thing to, find what audience they're neglecting, and pander to them instead. There are a bunch of video editors out there, they're all trying to be the Hollywood industry standard and have a learning curve that requires a college course, none of them are designed specifically for expediting YouTube retention editing because it's a smaller market and half of the users are guaranteed to pirate it.

Oh shit, I now understand why game dev is so full of globo homo shit.
