>want to switch to full fibre broadband
>all use CGNAT unless i pay for a static IP
>can't run a home media centre with CGNAT
>can't shitpost on 4chan with a static IP
What do?
>>
I am on a static IP because I don't have episodes where I feel like filling a thread to the brim with child porn.
>>
CloudFlare zero trust.
It just works
>>
>>102408404
I remember someone made nginx service to the local server to achieve it.
>>
>>102408554
Neither do i, but jannies can have a mind of their own and you know that

Current FTTC broadband has dynamic IP address range so restarting the router gives a new IP. FTTP won't. Most likely i'll just take a static IP but i wanted to know if there are providers with dynamic IP?

The network is being built by CityFibre
>>
>>102408794
there are better things to do when that happens
>>
uh, dynamic DNS provider?
>>
>>102409159
nothing works under CGNAT unless you use a proxy as your server
>>
>>102408963
I can't deny that but still i guess i'm stuck here not being a total normie. Still sucks that providers are using CGNAT
>>
>>102409232
CGNAT is how ISP's avoided having to move to IPv6, it's better for everyone
>>
>>102409173
Exactly the problem. Apart from wanting to run a home server our home has security cameras too which won't work with CGNAT as far as i know
>>
>>102409244
so pay for static IP
>>
>>102408404
unless you want to host actual websites at home just get the cgnat thing and use ZeroTier
>>
lmao cgnat like doesn't fucking matter man

i got a eufy cam and my NVR both accessible with cgnat
>>
>>102409253
I know some turdworlders who can't even peer with my torrent client because my packets don't reach their CGNAT'ed favela
>>
>>102409266
that's not how cgnat works the fuck you guys think it is
>>
>>102409279
yeah the problem is it doesn't work at all, router doesn't know where to send the packet and drops it
>>
>>102409284
ah yes that's why you can't browse any webpage on cgnat, it doesn't know where to send it!
>>
I have fiber with cgnat. There is an obscure option hidden in the ONT's settings that you can use to do a full reset of it and get a new IP. I have been on the same IP for more than a year anyway and rarely get banned here. Last time I got my home IP banned I was leaving for 5 days anyway and the whole time I was banned I was gone.
>>
>>102409241
Sucks for everyone
>>102409246
Price isnpt the problem, the issue is having a static IP leaves you at the mercy of 4chan jannies. Tbh it'll probably a good thing to get banned but f4r some occasions 4chan is a fun place
>>102409253
>>102409248
Also will CGNAT affect torrent uploading and p2p stuff like Soulseek?
>>102409266
This is also a worry. I use torrents a lot in fact one of the reasons i'd like to switch to full fibre is for the equal upload speed
>>102409297
I'n planning to use my own router (Asus with Merlin) wyich has been absolutely rock solid, love it
>>
>>102409988
I use my own router too. I just turned off the wifi on the one they gave me.
>>
>>102409988
>Soulseek
Yes cgnat means you see less search results on Soulseek. It hides anyone who doesn't have an open port you can connect to.
>>
>>102409998
I think the ISPs are cool with using our own routers. Was looking at either Zen 100 up/down for £28 with static IP (and no in contract price rises) or Octaplus 150 for £25 with static IP but they have the gay little 4% inflation price bump in March/April which really annoys me - shouldn't be legal. And City Fibre have a £150 cashback offer
>>102410003
That's utterly gay. CGNAT is 100% ruled out then, thanks
>>
>>102408404
I just emailed and asked my isp for a static ip and they gave me one. Is it not the same in amerikkka?
>>
>>102410326
I'm OP - in the UK. I think the big ISPs are hoarding the ip4 addresses so these new full fibre ones have to use this CGNAT
>>
>>102408404
>can't shitpost on 4chan with a static IP
What are you posting which is getting you banned all the time? I know some mods can get overzealous at times, but its not that bad.
>>
Check if u have ipv6 should be basically static
>>
>>102410493
>but its not that bad.
Considering we're on fucking /g/ all I can say is forget about achieving orbit, my fucking sides have left the solar system.

You will host nothing and you will be happy.
>>
>>102410540
Mad how each new generation is becoming less tech literate than the last. If you even mention torrenting you'll give girls the "ick"
>>
>>102408404
>>all use CGNAT unless i pay for a static IP
its fucking literally an extra 4 bucks retard
>>can't shitpost on 4chan with a static IP
i had more problems with my dynamic IP where the entire range was banned due to some fucking namefag nigger (who had been in a psych ward before for pedophilia or some shit) spamming his horsecock constantly
>>102408794
>Current FTTC broadband has dynamic IP address range so restarting the router gives a new IP
hah
my damn docsis slop keeps its ip. did for 6 months now every few days the shit reboots and gets a new one.
>>
>>102408404
>can't shitpost on 4chan with a static IP
Back when I had coax for internet I had a static IP and for the 12 years I had it I was never banned. Just cool it with the spicy shitposts and enjoy your streaming porn collection.
>>
>>102411106
You wouldn't steal a movie would you?

Do you want to test that theory?
>>

>tfw dont even have the option to pay for a static ip
>>
>>102413316
Never had the issue of being rangebanned personally
>>102414409
As i hope you can see from this thread i'm usually just a normal poster but surely you can also see if you post something about one community you will be insta-banned by jannies from the same community whereas posting about others can be done with complete impunity. I don't think that's fair. So using the Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma as inspiration i believe tit-for-tat is a valid response
>>102414430
I bloody would if i cared for movies
>>102416346
Ouch that sucks
>>
>>102408404
Pay for vps to proxy the requests? I assume throughput will be costly however
>>
>>102408404
>This is when it pays not to be in the shitty EU or USA hahahahaha CGNAT is so fuckin crap it's like having mommy put you in the pushchair and wont let you walk anywhere even though you are 9 years old
>>
>>102414476
wouldnt mind testing it in a court of law, would you? Take your pedo drawings to a police station in the USA they would fuckin arrest you
BECAUSE IT IS ILLEGAL IN THE USA despite what 4chan or its users believe
