all else being equal 4k but I would care more about color space and latency than resolution or refresh rate.

I need 240Hz minimum to look at spreadsheets

1440p 144Hz if you are not limited by resolution right now.
Even for office work you are much more precise with the mouse at higher refreshrates. I went from 60Hz to 144Hz and think that the advantage on the desktop is even bigger than for gaming.
Also modern phones and laptops have 90-120Hz right now so you don't want to buy some stuttery mess right now new when all your other displays have above 60Hz.
>>
why would you need 144hz for coding and spreadsheets

I like to stay about a meter away from the screen, which is also good for the eyes.

4k 120Hz for a bit more $.

I also have 1440p on 40 inch ultrawide which equals to a 32 inch 16:9 and a 24 inch 1080p monitor.
Pixel density of course isn't that high but it doesn't really matter because most of the time you work with full screen or half screen programs, that still have a higher resolution than with FHD.
Also scaling is at 150% compared to 125% on my former 24 inch FHD, so every space of the program window also is displayed with more pixels.

Doesn't have the "high res" effect of a 1440p 24 inch or even a 4k 27 inch monitor, but still is a solid bump over a 24 inch FHD despite technically having the same PPI.
