Why are we living in the gayest timeline?

>USB 3.1 gen 2 a.k.a USB 3.2 gen 2 a.k.a USB 3.2 gen 1x2 a.k.a 10Gbit/s

Why can't they just write the speed on the connector? And maybe the Amps.

If you're wondering what a 10Gbps external USB drive means in real world disk IO, it's 50% better than SATA III (600MB/s) :-/
>>

>Why can't they just write the speed on the connector?
Because that's not how it works

it gets even better when you think about usbc.
>usbc, this ubiquitous connector that was supposed to 'just work' and replace usb since it works no matter how you plug it in as opposed to the usb superposition
>instead of being force tied to a standard (ie. 3.1/3.2), it's just thrown in as a general connector and tossed on anything in usb2/3/whateverthefuck form instead, with no consistent spec behind it at all
usbc was someone's monkeys paw, surely.
>>
>>102460015
dont forget the arbitrary voltage/current capability per cable
>>
>>102460064
vaguely covered by the "no consistent spec behind it" part there.
>>
>>102459399
>240 Bewertungen
yeah I wouldn't buy there
>>
>>102460116
you're right, that isn't even nearly enough Bewertungens
>>
>>102460064
but how do you check for these things, every USB-C cable is mystery meat and the system doesn't have a real way to test for these things
>>
>>102459775
>240W
>a fucking cable
>>
>>102460015
the eu has fucked the world for 10 years at least
>>
Is USB better or worse than HDMI? Nobody wants to say what fucking version of HDMI a cable is. Not in their paragraph long product name (SEOspam the shit out of your amazon listing), not in the details, not in the reviews. You have to dig like crazy to have even a hope of making sure you're not getting some old stock 1.4 piece of shit or less-old stock of 2.0 piece of shit that can't handle what DP1.4 can.
>>
>>102462587
What else is 240W going to be delivered over?
>>
>>102462587
guess how many watts go through a hair dryer or a toaster cable doofus
>>
>>102460015
For USB it does "just work", as it will negotiate to the highest compatible version.
For other things, like Thunderbolt, HDMI over USB, and non-spec cables chink companies use for cheap devices, I think you should look back at USB in the past and realize this was still going on.
There was an adhoc spec to get HDMI over microUSB, chink companies use micro and mini USB ports in non-standard ways for charging, and sometimes you even have abominations with a USB port on one end and a barrel jack on the other.
Fuck you even get USB2 cables with blue base in the A connector, which should mean that it is USB3, but it isn't.
>>
>>102459775
240w?!?!?! WOW!
At this rate USB6.0 is going to replace all cables!
Power cables, audio cables, display cables, network cables, etc!
>>
>>102463079
thunderbolt 4 has been able to do everything you mentioned and it's been out for four years
>>
>>102460064
It's not that arbitrary.
It's really only two you should be concerned about.
>straight through cable: supports 3 amps or 60 watts
>e-marker cable: supports 5 amps and 100W

Both support PPS
>>
>>102463092
I haven't seen thunderbolt being able to deliver 3000w to my PSU yet.
>>
>>102460064
>>102462562
its fucking insanity, not only do you have to determine voltage/amps, some of them dont carry data either, so you also have to pay attention to that too.
>>
>>102463125

600V 5A will do it, within spec
>>
I spent an hour looking for a USBC to A adapter once and only found A to C ones
>>
>>102463831
Because that's non-spec.

>>102463126
>some of them dont carry data either,
Same with mini and micro USB. You shouldn't have to worry about the volts/amps either, so long as the devices and cables are all to specifications. They'll negotiate the voltage and power based on the devices and the chips in the cable.
>>
>>102463004
It can be done many ways. It's just energy xfer
>>
>>
Those "orico" (mine is sabrent) nvme have updatable firmware, they all use a realtek controller. Improves speed to update.

At 240V AC or 120AC if you live in the greatest country that ever lived
>>
>>102466222
Literally no 10Gbit/s, the most common spec.
