I think this one piece of software has singlehandedly ruined the entire internet forever
>>

I've never used it somehow.

i used it for about a week in 2007, i didn't see the point

triple lucky slim jims

Also are you sure it's not niggers OP? The commonly accepted theory is that niggers have ruined the internet.

Twitter and Facebook, the two pillars of online doxxing. Turns out never shutting the fuck up can result poorly. Who would have thought?

Trannyism cult sprung forward after 2012.

What's really weird is how it became the "official" social media outlet for agencies, news outlets, the president, corporations (etc) overnight. Suddenly one day in 2009, every news article started having embedded tweets, the white house was publishing statements, etc. I have never seen an explanation for this, it wasn't even popular back then. Just suddenly happened for seemingly no reason.
>>
Nobody complained before Elon Musk bought it, and less so before he endorsed Donald Trump. Weird how that works, isn't it.
>>
>>102627098
Yes.

Ive always said twitter is the worst invention since leaded gasoline.

It hasn't been so bad since elon took over and ruined it. People took twitter so seriously, like it was this legitimate important platform and invention. It was so fucking stupid. Thanks Elon.

I think twitter being opened up to non-libshit views is why the right started "winning" culture war shit like bud light and other garbage. I think it actually caused a shift in social attitudes

Twitter didn't get that bad until they adopted Facebook-inspired content algorithms to increase engagement. I think >>102628251 is right and Facebook has been the main driver of the social decline of the internet. They pioneered the 'keep the people perpetually outraged' model other social media since copied. Also, their effect goes beyond the internet; society as a whole has become far more polarized over time, and in places like the Arab world it's even been used to topple governments.
>>

>They pioneered the 'keep the people perpetually outraged'
That is just one of their sins, and not even the worst one.
To me, the greatest sin of Facebook is how it normalized putting your personal data out in the open on the internet so such a point where it is literally expected of you. Before Facebook, everybody told you not to do it. After Facebook, if you don't want to do it, you're considered a weirdo (in the west anyway).
>>
>>102631133
Eh, that's not a trend Facebook started, they just popularized it. The outrage algorithm, though? That was their claim to fame and what let them beat MySpace and similar earlier competitors.
>>
>>102631182
Popularizing it was the problem. The cultural damage can never be undone.
>>
>>102631182
>the outrage algorithm
Thats trannyspeak. Try speaking like a normal rational person. Algorithm only amplifies whats popular. Its the same with tiktok, douyin, reddit, even 4chan's thread bumps. Trying to claim its some special bad thing that must be attacked is the new lingo for the trannysphere as a means to push censorship.
The problem is the solution you troons are proposing. Censorship. Echo chambers are created by censorship.

No, it's specifically designed to amplify posts that cause anger, as those have been proven to increase engagement more than other popular posts. And they were fully aware of what they were doing.

>In 2015, in addition to the Like button on posts, Facebook introduced a set of other emotional reaction options: love, haha, yay, wow, sad and angry.[30] The Washington Post reported that for three years, Facebook's algorithms promoted posts that received the 'angry' reaction from its users, based on internal analysis showing that such posts lead to five times more engagement than posts with regular likes. Years later, Facebook's researchers pointed out that posts with 'angry' reactions were much more likely to be toxic, polarizing, fake or low quality.[31]
>
>In 2018, Facebook overhauled its News Feed algorithm, implementing a new algorithm which favored "Meaningful Social Interations" or "MSI". The new algorithm increased the weight of reshared material - a move which aimed to "reverse the decline in comments and encourage more original posting". While the algorithm was successful in its efforts, consequences such as user reports of feed quality decreasing along with increased anger on the site were observed. Leaked documents reveal that employees presented several potential changes to fix some of the highlighted issues with their algorithm. However, documents claim Mark Zuckerberg denied the proposed changes due to his worry that they might cause fewer users to engage with Facebook. Documents have also pointed to another 2019 study conducted by Facebook where a fake account based in India was created and studied to see what type of content it was presented and interacted with. Results of the study showed that within three weeks, the fake account's newsfeed was being presented pornography and "filled with polarizing and graphic content, hate speech and misinformation", according to an internal company report.[32]

Frankly, after all the depositions, lawsuits and all the disclosures they had to make to the public and to other nations, I'm still surprised few people know just how much Facebook fucked with the internet. The public does have the memory of a goldfish for certain things.

10+ years ago it was almost completely negligible.
