Man, the Pro version of this was literally the best value for money phone in 2019. Only thing it lacked was OLED. Even the Helio G90T was quite beefy for gaming and emulation at the time. The pearl white version with the curved glass back with internal colors and reflections looked so fucking good too.

Other than Xiaomi you could also do the Galaxy A34, A35 or A55. My father has the A34 and is happy with it, said he couldn't kill the battery in a single day even if he watched youtube all day, only if he used it as a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot all day.
Don't do A54 because it's the same phone as the A35 just with a worse screen and 1 less year of updates. A34 is it's own thing so it's allowed, and the A55 is the current best Galaxy A-series phone.

I've got the choice between the Xperia 1 VI or the iPhone 16 Plus...
Both of them have color-accurate oled displays, tight haptics, solid battery life, and good build quality. However...
>Xperia has a 120hz LTPO display
>iPhone is only 60Hz, but has a sharper and brighter panel.
>Xperia has better ergonomics and less rounded corners
>iPhone has more accessories, cases, etc.
>Xperia has no punchhole or notch.
>iPhone has face unlock.
>Xperia has a telephoto camera
>iPhone takes more consistent photos.
>Xperia has a headphone jack and sd card slot
>iPhone might get me laid.

Samsung is just clawing back. They're gradually improving as they go. The A54 had bad cooling, so they improved upon that in every way with the A35. The Exynos 1380 is a good processor, it just wasn't good for the retail price of the A54 or A35. Now that those two phones' prices have come down to Earth, they're in the proper category that they should be in

the iPhone really is the standard in the USA, both in price and functionality, in other countries is just too expensive. A brand new iphone 16 is close to 1,100 dolars while S24 ultra is 875 here in hueland
>>

The iPhone is still expensive here in the US but once you buy in to the iPhone line once you can easily trade up every couple years for (almost) nothing. I have to imagine this is because of economies of scale

I’ve had every type of smartphone at this point. Symbian, blackberry, windows mobile, windows phone, android and iPhone, I’ve had them all. Honestly, the iPhone just wins. It’s the one thing apple does better than everyone else and that might not always be reflected in the spec sheet but after years of using each of these ecosystems I have always ended up going back to an iPhone because of some intangible and hard to pinpoint reason. It would truly take something incredible to pull me back to an android at this point, probably some really innovative hardware design.

I'm looking into getting an Android tablet for reading, drawing and some light emulation, I think I'll go for Samsung since my smartphone now is Samsung too and it makes sense to sync them up. I don't want to spend much though, I don't know if I'll like tablets or not, so I want to experiment with something cheap, but useable, first, before getting something more premium.

Smartphones are horrible now. My only two options for upgrade are Sony 5 V and Zenfone 10 because they are the only decent phones that aren't fucking huge and still have a headphone jack, wireless charging and decent specs.

Like what the fuck? Does everyone use these fucking slabs of glass for hours on end? Doctors must be making a killing on the wrist injuries from using these fat phones.

I miss my Nexus 5. It had a great design, it was light and I never dropped the thing because it was so easy to hold and use with one hand.

These new stupidly big phones are fragile to boot so you have to put some idiotic case on them, screen protectors, making them even heavier and unwieldy. Or you put one of those key rings on the back which adds even more weight to it.

Why can't OEMs make phones that are comfortable to hold and use? The S24 Ultra looks like it would sever a toe if you dropped it on your foot.

>>
>>102840523
it's not about the thickness, it's about the shape and the texture.
The Nexus 5 had one of the best shapes I've ever seen on a smartphone. The sides are flat and they taper into the back with a nice rounded fillet. The plastic frame makes it very grippy.
The phones with metal and glass are more slippery, they crack, they conduct too much heat and they add weight to devices. There is nothing wrong with plastic, it makes the most sense.

I'm looking to buy a Google Pixel phone. Since I live in Mexico and work as an intern the latest model is outside of my price range, so I'm settling for an older model. Due to availability and price the 7 pro and 8 pro seem to be my best options, I can find the 7 pro for about $450 USD and the 8 pro for about $850 USD (I saw one on sale for $700 but missed it).

My main question is: which is the better option? I've seen that both phones aren't much different so the 7 pro seems to be the obvious choice, but the 8 pro will still have software updates for many years while the 7 pro only has about a year or less left. I'm hoping to keep this phone for a while (maybe 5 years at least?) so my question is if software updates are worth paying almost twice as much for the 8 pro.

(Also, models older than the 7 don't seem to be a good idea. I can only find used phones for prices similar to a brand new 7, so I don't see much point in buying that).
>>
Bruh, my phone battery went from lasting 12h a day to 18h a day with basically the same usage and there was no update. The fuck happened?

S24 is plastic. I'm pretty sure most phones are made to be used with a case since that's what most people do anyways. I run a S24 ultra with a case and mag wallet with pop socket and love the setup. Only downside is when I ride my bike its big and heavy in my pocket but that's the only time its kind of annoying.

Tab A series have horrible screens and terrible cpu performance that's why the price is so low. When I talk about bad cpus I am not talking about games but opening and using simple apps, they literally lag. Their screens are bad too, bad colors, contrast extremely bad viewing angles, they are literally worse than (ips/pls) screens released by samsung 10 years ago.
Tldr if you buy A series tab you will regret yor purchase
>>
>>102839884
You'll just be wasting money on a cheap tablet
If you care about drawing most of all, you're better off with a used iPad, but you can't emulate games on it
>>
>>102843054
>>102843074
NTA but what tablet would be good for content consumption (youtube, anime, manga), relatively demanding emulation (PS2, GC/Wii, maybe 3DS) and optionally some gaming (HSR, ZZZ)? Everything I've seen with decent specs is insanely expensive, and most of them don't even have an OLED panel despite having high-tier Snapdragon CPUs inside. Crazy shit.
>>
>>102843106
anything with a Snapdragon 7 series, IPS is better than OLED on tablets unless you absolutely need better color accuracy and low response times for stuff like drawing and digital design
>>
>>102843147
>IPS is better than OLED on tablets
I'd move to OLED on my PC monitor too, if price and burn-in weren't an issue. The TRUE blacks of an OLED panel can never be matched by the grayish "blacks" of an IPS panel.
Maybe I should just look for a portable OLED screen for my phone and just use DeX or something for tabletop PS2 emulation with the lads.
>>
>>102843180 (me)
>portable OLED screen for my phone
apparently this is also not an option, because even shitty 10 inch TFT screens cost like 100 euro kek for that price I was expecting at least 800p OLED.
>>
>>102843106
Samsung s series for media consumption and drawing. Forget emulating ps2 games on a tablet. If you can't afford samsung look for chinese brands, some of them have good screens, some use samsung oled screens. If buying lcd screen make sure its ips.
>>
>>102843307
>Forget emulating ps2 games on a tablet.
If I can emulate everything PS2 on my S23, and even select titles on my fucking XZ1 Compact, why not on tablets?
>>
>>102843320
My S21 can emulate ps2 games too. Only it gets hot, fast. just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Or if you do, get one of those coolers that attaches to phones
>>
>>102843106
just went through this myself, Samsung is basically the only option worth a damn. There are options outside Samsung if you're going for the cream of the crop, but that's 4 figure prices. The next best thing is the Galaxy Tab S7 FE, which is about $500, but you can get something like 75-95% as good (depending on how you weight different aspects) in the Galaxy Tab S5e, which is like $100-150.

The A series is universally crap and all the chinkshit in this price point is competing against the A series, they don't hold a candle to the S series. Even a Tab S4 (the oldest actual tablet) is better for media consumption than the newest A series.

Is it just me or do reviewers tend to ignore the base model Galaxy S phones? Everyone always compares everything else to the Ultra, but never the basic S24. The ONLY time I see the comparison being made is when comparing the base model iPhone 16 to an android equivalent. Additionally, the Ultra seems like all the tech youtubers' default "android smartphone" when talking about the platform in general. Moreover, 90% of vendors just re releasing Google's patches, which most of the time are pixel series related. They just didn't work on your phone.

Thoughts on Nothing Phone 2a?

TLDR
>good screen, decent-ish brightness
>great battery life
>clean software
>okay performance
>decent photos
>4K30 video recording
>SD card slot
Sounds pretty good, especially if you can grab it for cheaper than a Galaxy A55.
>>
>>102845354
If they're the same price, what's your opinion on it?
>>
>>102845245
Those who got filtered by the debloat-able Xiaomi ads love the Nothing Phone 2a.
>>
>>102845378
Firstly, I think I got it wrong and it doesn't have an SD card slot? Anyways.
A55 has a more premium build with metal sides and glass back, also IP67 water and dust resistance. It has a better performing chip too. It does also have the SD card slot. Will also get 1 more year of Android updates.
Phone (2a) has a bigger screen with thinner bezels, about 15% better battery life (15:53h vs 13:27h on standardized GSMArena tests), the fancy glyphs on the back, no Samsung bloat, and has faster charging.
You can go either way. I'd pick based on the performance, build quality and software.

According to one of the comparison websites the A35 only has two more 4G bands than the Nothing 2a. 8/13 vs 10/13 (B12, B17).
The Nothing phone only has a 14 day warranty though for us in the US.

I own an iPad Pro, the things I expect it to do it does very well (be a good drawing tablet) but boy does iPadOS feel like a waste. Such a gimped OS on very capable hardware.
I probably should've waited a couple more years before getting one as there's now a big iPad Air that's less expensive
I wonder what would it take for third party app developers to give Android tablets some love, I prefer Android over iOS in general

Upgraded from Redmi K20 Pro. First foldable so I don't know how it compares against other folds, but so far I really like it. The front screen is a bit narrow but it's still good, easier to one hand everything. The dual screen is great, rekindled my passion for drawing and reading, the s pen feels good to use. Being able to sign PDFs on the go is incredibly useful to me. The multitasking stuff is neat, the popup stuff and app splitting. YouTube lets you pinch to zoom so it covers the entire screen which is useful. The battery life is better than the K20 at least. Also the Good Lock stuff is pretty sweet, being able to to play audio from multiple sources, customizing swipe actions, forcing landscape on apps that don't support it, playing audio to multiple devices, etc. Yup this is a cool device alright, it gives me that feeling I once had, when buying a new phone and it feels completely different from anything I've used before. Like the time I bought the Sony Ericsson W995.

3 different AI guesses: This is the Bulgar Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, specifically a view from the Bulgar fortress overlooking the Volga River in Tatarstan, Russia. The building to the right is likely a modern structure within the reserve or nearby. The fortress ruins in the foreground and the river view are characteristic of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sviyazhsk, an island town located at the confluence of the Volga and Sviyaga Rivers in Russia.

Had my S10e and loved it for years.
Still works, and I'm content to keep using it for years to come, but even then the battery life is a bit low now (particularly on 4G), and it's Exynos, so I wouldn't mind upgrading to something similar.
Aspects I find essential:
>Headphone jack (my car doesn't have bluetooth and I use wired headphones)
>MicroSD card slot (for music as I listen to locally-stored music files)
>Really nice inexpensive genuine leather wallet cases exist for it
>Small enough to use one-handed, large enough to not feel cramped
Other things I like about it:
>Camera is great, sensor has a reasonable MP count
>Dedicated fingerprint scanner on the side
>Very reliable, zero issues to this day aside from the unavoidable Exynos overheating on mobile data
What options do I even have here? Xperia 1/10 VI? The 1 I think is overkill, the 10 seems to be a downgrade in many aspects.

How does Motorola's flip phone compare to Samsungs? Haven't touched a Motorola since the 2000's.

Creatively bankrupt.

>Apple and Samsung have created designs that make it very easy to recognise that it's an Apple or a Samsung phone
>This is somehow bad
>>
>>102850681
Apple have been making the same phone for six years.
It doesn't make sense doing a major redesign every year because it's expensive and it's not really worth it.
The lack of creativity isn't the issue, it's the features we lost along the way that is the real problem

They're ok. Software is below OneUI and support is lacking. Also motorola started asking flagship money for mid-range SoCs, which makes them kikes.

How bad is this Pixel Android 15 forced restart bug I keep hearing about? I read that the pixels are restarting a ton by themselves for no reason because of the update.

I'm on 6 pro. I hear it has affected 6/7/8/9 but I dont know how likely I am to get it. The last thing I need is for my phone to do this kind of shit especially when I'm about to go on an international vacation. To be honest with you guys, a coworker literally asked me "what was I thinking" getting a pixel.

I have to buy a new phone, my google pixel 2's battery is reaching its end of life and im not spending $100 to get it replaced.
Are my only small flagship options the latest pixel pro and the Samsung Galaxy?
Any other "small" phones that aren't chink garbage?
No im not getting a Zen phone or whatever the most recent small iPhone is.

So apparently my smartphone with GrapheneOS can't run Google Pay. Or Gpay. Or "Wallet", what are you supposed to call it even?
But can it run Samsung Pay? This country has basically those two options for smartphone payments.
Are (NFC?) payments generally tied to official ROMs? Is this what anons meant by "online banking doesn't work with custom ROMs"? My online banking apps always worked fine with custom ROMs.
>>
>>102852495
Samsung Pay is only for Samsung phones and only works with the stock OS and bootloader locked and Knox efuse not burnt.

Use cash, or a card. You can't use Google Pay on an unsanctioned ROM without rooting, which makes the point of using Graphene pointless since it is insecure and requires an unlocked bootloader. It's also a cat and mouse game where it might work today but not tomorrow.
