shop weekly ads for discount grocers. learn the price per quantity of food in your area (ie $ per lb of chicken, $ per lb of apples, etc) and figure out what places offer the most economical deals. if you're actually struggling and have a lower-paying job, you likely have government / state assistance programs for food stamps (groceries), health insurance, etc. that just take basic online form filling to apply for

To be fair, 3d printers have gotten great for their price - that bambu A1 mini is 200€ and the only real downside it has is it has a smaller build size - but in the many years of owning a base model ender 3 I never printed anything larger than the print size the mini supports, so that's a non issue for me. If you do get a printer, do not get a too old one, things changed a lot since. Auto bed levelling is a must for example. It's a great hobby and my ender probably paid for itself about twice over from the stuff I printed with it, but it's time to get with the times, hoping this bambu delivers on the hype.

Redpill me on mini PCs with an Intel N100;
>Do they need active cooling or not?

First ones I saw were Beelink ones that had fans. But now on AliEx I'm seeing those fanless types with N100s.

All my and my family's laptops (mini PCs are basically like laptops, same small form factors and compromises) have had their usage eventually come to an end because (despite thermal paste changes) evolving web and video demands meant they just couldn't cope any more, it took more and more work do keep doing the same tasks, and when eventually standard videos were something they could natively decode any more, overheating and shutdowns became common. When they were released their fans were adequate to cool them, but as the years went on the cooling couldn't keep up with the stress that newer standards were putting on the CPUs.

Thinking about an N100 mini PC for my mum, her dinosaur 35W 2010 Arrandale laptop can't cope any more. Wondering if fanless N100s might actually be more long-lasting than fanned ones?
Do fanless even make sense? If the N100 could be fanless, why are any fanned in the first place?
>>
>>102852392
Damn. I kinda hate my miband because of it. I got a walking pad so I can get some steps in while I work, but because I don't move my arms, I don't get the steps counted

>Redpill me on mini PCs with an Intel N100
Fanless devices are usually used as home servers and office devices (e.g. for meeting rooms). I think video processing might overheat them too quickly, considering that they use integrated GPU for that.

I already own(ed) an ender 3, but like an early days model, back when your options were prusa, creality and reprap pretty much. It has served me well, but goddamn does it break or fuck up a lot and I just got really tired of the constant maintenance required.
>>
>>102858823
I bought two for our workplace to increase our prototyping capability (we got the X1 carbon as soon as it was commercially available) and I really like this little buddy. We didn't get an AMS for these small ones, so we can use up our filament scraps, that don't work with the AMS of our X1.
We got the Minis for 200 bucks each (it's a fucking steal) and they work great (without assembly, manual calibration or other, annoying shit... looking at you, PRUSA!)
If Prusa spent more time actually on research and manufacturing at scale (and less time printing his cringe face on his products), he wouldn't have been steamrolled by the evil BambuLabs team, at least not to this ridiculous extent.
The Prusa MK3 was always praised for its reliability but the reality is, the X1 is way more reliable (no failed prints that are not user error) and is fast as fuck while maintaining reproducible print-quality, each fucking time.
I had some horrible print-fails with MK3s. Especially the print-batches that fill up the whole bed is way too risky on the MK3 but no problem on the BambuLabs X1.
I'm not a fan how the Chinese company handled the situation (taking open source from Prusa and competing directly with them) but it's not against the rules and open source devs that cry about people using their stuff while not violating licenses is annoying.
The Steel-sheet with the PEI coating was Prusa's most important contribution to the 3d printing world. I give him that but I'm not even sure if that was really his invention. Also weird that they didn't patented this idea, if it was an original one of them.

Well I'll just document my first impressions:
Unboxing experience is very nice. The printer arrives basically preassembled and you just have to remove some shipping foam, one bracket and a ziptie. Comes with some nice accessories too. Compared to the Ender 3 the box is much taller because of that, but it makes setup faster for the enduser, so it's appreciated. Nice surprise: They added one of their clock components kits-011 to the box, which is a nice gesture while doubling as an ad for that part of their store.
I'm not sure how I feel about all the proprietary software so far, but that will depend on UX, if I run into issues it'll drive me mad, if not I won't mind.
The only thing I don't like so far is how the filament spool is at the back, but I already saw that there's stuff to print that fixes that issue and moves it to the top. I also like how they give you a scraper blade without a handle so you have to print it yourself as a first project, it's like a benchy but with an actual use.
Surprisingly while the print volume is a good bit smaller, the machine footprint isn't as much smaller as one might assume as an Ender.
Wifi setup and software connection was easy, except they do that annoying thing where the camera for the qr code doesn't allow you to manually focus it, so that took a minute. The whole calibration and setup stuff feels pretty futuristic compared to the ender.
I'll report back with the user experience after printing the scraper handle with the provided filament.
>>
>>102859712
Yeah I noticed that in many years of ender 3 ownership (admittedly it didn't get as much use since around covid) I never printed anything that needed the bigger print bed compared to the mini. And if I ever do really need it I could just print it in parts, as long as the dimensional accuracy is good enough for that to not be a hassle.
I got the same deal, 200€ for the printer, no AMS (because I see no point for my specific application). Seemed like nothing could beat it at that price, except maybe refurbed printers (and these mostly did in the print volume department, which I don't value as much as UX).
Honestly, prusa kinda shot itself in the knee. I remember when the only options were repraps (where anything vaguely resembling a cube was considered a success), prusa (which was the premium option) and creality (for the poor and/or penny pinchers like me). Prusa was the first to really have heated beds as a standard feature, they were the innovators back then. Since then what really changed? The slicer is a little better, the print volume is a little larger, the accuracy is a little higher, but fundamentally they feel like the same machines. They stopped innovating. In that way it's hard to feel bad for them, you can't rest on your laurels forever. The production in europe is admirable, but other than that ideological advantage they offer a worse printer for more money and most people (me included) don't care about the ideology more than they care about the useability/convenience. The issue is prusa (and creality to a smaller degree, but it doesn't hurt them as much as they were always the "cheap choice") are starting to feel like a blackberry in a world with smartphones, set in their ways and unwilling to adapt.

Forgot to attach a pic of my setup.
This is far from ideal, the high shelf that isn't even attached to the lower part not the floor or has rubber feet attached will fuck with the frequency response and wobble. It's far from ideal, but it is what's most convenient for me for now, so whatever.
Left was the old ender, right is the A1 mini, if it wasn't for the spool holder at the back it wouldn't have to hang halfway off the cube, but I'll fix that tomorrow with an alternative spool holder.
The ender used to be connected to my home server with octoprint, so I didn't have to manually load the sd card, the bambu app seems to do the same automatically. Will report back with first print.

I think 3d printers get away with this more light-weight solution since the tool-head doesn't has to withstand much force (like in milling), since the nozzle isn't touching anything.
Also, the precision of 3d printers is still pretty low (compared to cnc-milling), so a slightly wobbly frame isn't really a big deal, which would call for a heavy base that doesn't wobble. Extreme high speed printers (with heavy duty servos) might be an exception but a prosumer 3d printer like the BambuLabs X1 is plenty stiff with frame made with bent(?) steel sheets.
I apologize for not knowing the machinist-lingo but I'm an EE.
>>
>>102860520
That ender reminds me of my first Chinese 3d printer CR-10. It was a very basic printer and I payed 500 eurobucks for it back then. The worst part was the glass plate, which I could remedy somewhat by using a PEI sheet on top of it. The bed had to be dialed in manually by using a piece of paper under the nozzle and feel your way to a flat print-bed. I'm not missing that one bit. I'm so glad that the flexible, metal print-bed is pretty much standard now, such a game-changer for PETG prints.

>>102852009
is there anything like a device with a band you strap around your ankles or something? I hate steps counted from arm movements too.
>>
>>102860972
The cr10 came out a good while later and was a good bit better than this version kek.
And like you said, I've been doing the paper leveling before every fucking Print since getting it. Some people might notice the bed leveling probe I attached to the side as a later upgrade, but the board has too small flash space to save changes to the firmware so I never got it to run kek.
I'm glad to leave those times behind.
>>
>>102860859
my point is a cast aluminium bed is as flat as old style glass bed, but thermally conductive, non fragile, doesnt warp with temperatures so no need to recalibrate or touch sensors, and is still cheap. But a good mechanical solution that doesnt needs a bed leveler looks cheap, and more primitive so this hobby that is dominated by electronics and programmers wont understand/get it
my crappy geeetech started to being way better after i change the original pcb bed with 4 point adjustment to a 3 one in a shitty aluminium bed (and this one was not proper, just some chinkshit that was sold back them).
i would argue that in many proper machines the structure is way overbuilt while the bed is still shit
i dunno there are many shit wrong, like how much it took for the heaters to be mains powered, instead of having oversized power supplies, those parts would be at very unsafe temps and should be grounded anyway why there was so much scare?

First printing impressions: Solid, but with minor hiccups.
First issue I ran into was the printer requesting I do a "self test" - without telling me where to do that. It's hidden in a sub-menu that isn't trivial to find, but at least it is quick and fixed the issue.
Then I had extrusion issues, the filament didn't feed properly. I disassembled the hot end to check that, but that wasn't the issue, the issue was with the pressure of the filament into the top. I ultimately had to remove the bowden tube at the printhead and press the filament with a pair of pliers to get it to feed. Supposedly this is an issue with the provided filament that can happen. Sadly the printer didn't notice it itself so I only noticed when it supposedly was on layer 2 and nothing was extruded yet - worth supervising when you print your first print I'd say. Once that was done, it prints perfectly - and I do mean absolutely perfectly. Perfect first layer, maybe 2-3x the speed of the ender 3, borderline silent other than the fan noise (wouldn't want it in my bedroom, but it's so much less loud than the ender), zero issues with the print. It produced a little more poop to figure out the flow rate than I'd prefer, but I'll have to tinker with that.
Overall, other than the initial feed issue, this feels lightyears ahead of the ender. I'm deeply impressed for now I gotta say. Time to print some accessories - if anything goes wrong I'll post again, but for now I'm very happy with my purchase.
For what it's worth switching to my roll if actual PLA from the provided 20g test filament was painless.
Picrel is the scraper.

From what I've tried to find, nothing exactly like that. There are ankle straps, pedometers, etc, but nothing that's an exact solution, so you're gonna need to improvise and DIY a solution yourself.
I've resorted to just shoving my miband into my socks when I'm on the treadmill or use an ankle band. It works but it's as goofy as it sounds, which is why I am interested in the ring

I see your valid points. Is an aluminum cast part without stresses in the part that may appear after the top surface has been machined to get a nice, flat surface? Aluminum does grow a bit with heat, but as long as the first layer calibration is done in thermal steady-state of the print-bed this should be fine.

I can't recommend PETG enough for mechanical parts. Prints perfectly on PEI coated print-beds.

I didn't try the supplied PLA and could get the printer to feed, just pushing the filament from the end of the tube. But I had to click "retry" at least 5 times until there was melted filament oozing out the nozzle. This is just a first time issue, since the whole nozzle and above cavities first had to get their initial fill of plastic.
The mini has this little chime that kind of grows on me, since I associate that chime with a new batch of perfectly printed parts that are fun to work with.
>>
>>102861941
I'll have to give it a try, truth be told when I had the ender, it had so frequent print issues or first layers fucking up I didn't really dare print anything but PLA. For what it's worth I never needed anything with high impact resistance or for outdoor use, so thankfully that wasn't a big issue, but now I'm looking forward to experimenting.
When you say PETG, do you mean base PETG or carbon fiber PETG? They both seem reasonable to print if you design your part around their drawbacks and have some very nice properties, but CF-PETG seems better at overhangs especially.
Also any experience with PCTG? It seems like the next upgrade over PETG, I always assumed it was overpriced as fuck, but apparently you can get a 1kg roll for around 30€ (5 more than CF-PETG and 10 more than base PETG, but if the project requires it that's still not expensive)

what did the chink mean by this?
according to https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/105126/is-it-good-practice-to-parallel-relay-contacts-for-increased-current-capacity it's not a good idea to use two smaller relays to handle larger currents
and according to the spec sheet (https://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/download/312455/HONGFA/HF32F-G/005-HXXX.html) these 10A relays are only rated for switching 10A currents
so is the chink bullshitting?

single slightly better relay is miles better than dual good ones.
the major problem is the switching (on and off) itself, continuous current is not that much of an issue unless you are way overtaxing the relay
>>
>>102863802
forgot to add, you will never be able to make two relays switch at the exact same time. never, not matter how hard you try and how expensive the relays are, one will always switch before the other (even on mosfets this is hard to do). so one will always get the brunt of the initial current, which will pit the contacts and ruin the current capabilities

thanks. I think I'll look for a different product then. I only really wanted to use it to calibrate my tasmota smart plugs, but there's no guarantee that the chink power meter is actually calibrated properly on its own.
should I get a factory-calibrated multimeter instead?
>>
>>102863774
I didn't buy it on Ali, but in their site. But I did the same with the ender back in the day and that doesn't make it any less chinkshit: Chinese company, Chinese manufacturing.
I'm pretty blown away by the performance so far compared to the ender.

Yeah, I was really surprised by the quality too. The previous experiences I had with 3d printers were very different, I was used to sub 600$ printers effectively being more of a "proof of concept" where you could only get like rough "estimates" so to speak. Nothing functional, just like cool stuff to look at it

cast aluminium would dilate in a complete isometric way, and is linear to the temp, so you can home it cold, just take into account how much extra the first layer needs for a given bed temp
also many of the deflection is bc the beds have more than 3 suports, (ie the 6 grades of liberty restricted, but no more), so when heated they warp bc they are hyperstatic...
>>102863834
while it is a bad practice, i doubt the instantaneous difference between 10 and 16 A would be that much of a difference if the relay is good
>>
>>102864279
Well you could get good prints with the old machines, but it took forever to set up properly. I'd legit spend an hour or two prototyping, figuring out the current tolerances, doing test prints to check bed adhesion and extrusion rate, leveling the bed before I even got to print. Then I'd watch the proper print start, make sure the first two layers got on correctly and then go to sleep, because the print would take 6h minimum anyways. Better hope nothing went wrong during the night, because if not you got a room full of fresh spaghet waiting for you.
It's largely why I barely printed since covid, the constant maintenance made it feel like a chore.
The bambu makes me feel like I felt when my first test print can out if the ender, excited about the possibilities. Perfect first layers and decent dimensional accuracy without any effort is heavenly.
>>102864635
I'll have to look into it. For now the flatpak seems to work on Arch, if a little buggy. I'm used to cura or simplify3D, but it seems a lot has gotten better since then.
>>102864655
Fair enough, I like using it for the first test print, just to reduce as many variables as possible. So far, everything prints with 0 effort, I'm very impressed.

i wanted to go solar, but i dont have space for big boy batteries and other this, so I figure I could still get a small panel and charge a battery bank, but then I dont want to deal with 18650 cells, so I ended up finding panels with type C PD and usb quick charge on amazon, doing a search on ali I actually found what it looks to be the module that these amazon panels integrate, the module and a regular panel (non-foldable) come at half or less of the prices of an amazon one, have any of you used this before ? I will buy it anyway to give it a try and see if it works, I am specially interested in using the PD output to charge my laptops while working, i could just probably throw the cable thru the window so it lands in my desk

Holy fuck I've needed exactly this in the past.

I did something like that for work once. Took a 100w panel and connected a voltage regulator made for a motorcycle to it. It takes a wide input from 12-60v and outputs 12v which I wired then into a oem laptop car charging cable and just connected directly to the laptop.
Place panel in sun laptop charges, remove sun it stops. Critically, adding the sun back again automatically starts charging again
If one of these boards works that's big, it's much cheaper

Well last update on the printer, I printed the stuff I wanted in terms of basic upgrades, a handle, spool relocator, removable poop bucket and some cable clips. Everything printed just fine with zero issues.
The bucket had some stringing issues, but that's a material constraint and the fault of the designer/material choice, not of the printer.
I can highly recommend the A1 mini, it's not fair to even compare it to an ender 3 it's that much nicer.
Bottom pic is the first print I did of something I designed and sliced myself rather than use something from makerworld, trying to clone a Ikea skadis hook. Right is the real one, left is the print. Since I'm Linux only it was also my first spin with freeCAD rather than fusion which I am familiar with. Fucked up the measurement of the top bend, but other than that, everything printed just fine. Since the entire part is filleted it's not a super easy part to print and it does require supports to print properly, but even this part was no issue for the printer.

TL;DR: If you are in the market for a 3d printer, don't need a large build volume and want stuff to "just work" the bambu A1 mini should be worth considering.

I'm well aware, this is more of a temporary solution for now. I'm actually printing some brackets to attach the two cubes together and will add some rubber in-between to further reduce vibration.
For what it's worth the bambu resonance analysis thingy is doing a great job so far compensating for the placement.

CPU sits below 50° and SDD gets pretty cooked at 70°, but it's a 970 – poor choice. A simpler SSD should do fine.

I know getting chinkbranded SSDs from Ali is a bad idea, but what about branded and allegedly new SSDs? I need a new mSATA, the only reputable seller still selling these is Kingston, but I saw PM851s supposedly new for a fair price on Ali, I'm afraid they're just repackaged pulls and/or messed with S.M.A.R.T. data to look like new. The stores don't even specifically say they're new, this is old tech and Samsung probably stopped production half a decade ago.
>>
>>102882202
They should be fine, problem with cheap SSDs is that they cheap out on the controllers which burn out quickly and die within a year. Known brands use better quality ones which are durable and do not have the same issues.

>I know getting chinkbranded SSDs from Ali is a bad idea, but what about branded and allegedly new SSDs?
bro your logic is backwards. "branded" shit is just fake. they are non-legit products from non-legit sellers, fake as buying nikes or gucci from aliexpress. chink brands with official stores that have been in the space for a while actually have some semblance of wanting to maintain a good reputation as a legit brand

What are some things you bought (not necessarily /csg/) that massively improved your everyday life? Most bang for your buck basically.
>>
>>102845299
Not sure about america, but here in EU the best way I found to reduce spendings is buying self-branded or generic things from ALDI and LIDL. Goes especially for cleaning supplies - never buy branded things or patented things, and you can just match chemicals. Washing powder by ALDI costs about 70% of branded and 40% of pods. Bleach costs fifth that of scented fancy bleach. Generic barely scented formic acid limescale remover costs a quarter compared to name brand. Brand loyalty is a mistake, always look at ingredients or specs for everything.
Also, consumables that don't expire are cheaper at scale.

As for food: Food is similar but with lower margins, self-brand is maybe a few percent cheaper.

For services: Not sure what services you mean, but for IRL ones you may be able to look up how to do them. Lots of technicians are replaceable by googling and maybe some tools - wiring up a new lamp body or cleaning your AC filter isn't rocket science. The later actually often has steps outlined in a service manual. Basically just don't be retarded, the serviceman is also just a random guy.

Really, just being an informed consumer is the best way to save money. Even this thread is about that, learning about what classes of items can't get you scammed and are cheaper from china.
>>

Not quite a thing, more just the fact of buying: I just put everything I run into that could improve my life a bit in my Ali basket and order when it hits the free shipping. A quality pillow for side sleepers. I sleep much better with it and miss it whenever I travel.

A roomba. No more vacuuming.
Parts for DIY Sub irrigated planters - my balcony is full of healthy plants for the second year in a row and I only need to water it once a week during peak summertime. Cheap as fuck too.

Dunno. Maybe the first wave of devices just used a trusty cpu-in-a-box design, and later went fanless with metal body + fins dissipation as a market differentiator and a potentially improved cost base? You need to hedge your risks when first coming to market so it's natural to play safe with a fan.

I got it as a gift a long time ago. It's from a german company called "Third of Life", specifically the ACAMAR one. No idea if similar ones exist elsewhere. The butterfly configuration is great and it happens to be just the height of my shoulders' width.
https://www.third-of-life.com/collections/seitenschlaeferkissen/products/acamar-kopfkissen
>>Some books are better read printed
>Can you give some examples?
There's 3 categories:
Books where the formatting is important, not just the text. House of Leaves comes to mind as something where the layout is just as much part of the book as the content.
Then there's books that I may want to re-read or consult later. As much as it's a meme, SICP and some self-help books come to mind, or meditations by marcus aurelius.
Lastly there's books you like to own or want to display, usually books with cultural value. Picrel is a part of my bookshelf with books in that category for example. Had to censor some for privacy.
>>Small mirrors for my bike that fold into the handlebars
>Link?

You can find them on the bundle deals for 1,50-2€ regularly. Note that the handlebars need to have seperate barends, or they won't work. The mirrors have a fisheye lens, so it's enough to see if there's someone (or a car) behind you, but small enough to fold away. These are a plastic clone of a product by some french dude but that guy charges 40$ per mirror or some shit.
>>Mijia Bitset (the wiha one, no longer available)
>Is there an alternative? I see what appears to be clones, but they're overpriced. $30 USD.
Honestly, I have no idea. I'd happily pay 30$ if I could still get the wiha version just for a spare, but the reason it was such a good deal was the wiha steel, the clones don't have that. Other cheap bitsets will do the trick for electronics and low torque applications, but the wiha bitset is really nice for travel/on the go.

>Quality metal digital calipers for 3d printing
I bought them in november of 2021, and the listing is long gone kek.
These: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005003103344038.html
Look the same though, from the case to the colors on the shaft. If they are, I can at least say they served me well for 3 years. Before that I had those plastic digital calipers you see in bundles sometimes. They are still a massive upgrade over no calipers, but these metal ones just are more fun to work with.
>Deburring tool for 3d printing
They are almost all the same. Look in the bundle section, there should be 2 versions: A plastic handle (usually blue) one for around 1-2€
(something like this: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005004161018123.html) and one with a hexagonal metal handle, similar to https://aliexpress.com/item/1005006997769022.html either blue or black. You can get those for around 5€ from bundles. Both have the same blades so that part doesn't matter, but the metal handle obv. feels nicer. I'd also add that in some books, having a feel for where in the book it is can be nice. I have a foraging book for example that covers local edible plants and after using it for a while I have a intuitive sense for where (physically) I can find the mushroom section, or the pine trees, etc.

Decided to use the potentiometers I got from China today to fix my PS5 controller
3 tested, 3 faulty. Permanently drifted to one side. Absolute shite.

Anyone know where I can get good potentiometers for a PS5 controller? Also anyone ever bought a replacement battery for any controller from Ali?

I can't really help you on Ali because I never got any myself, my guess is listings with the proper part number would be more trustworthy than generic "controller analog stick potentiometer"s.
If you want quality, mouser or digikey would be my go-to, but those are going to cost you more (mostly in shipping and minimum parts numbers).
Be that as it may, for the future, get yourself a hall sensor controller, they are cheap as shit these days.

How proprietary are active pens for tablets?

I have a "Lenovo M10 Plus 3rd gen" and whenever I try to search, I see reddit posts saying these 3 specific expensive pens work with its protocol (WGP). Does that exclude aliexpress options?

I'm assuming I can't find a cheap ~$10 pen on aliexpress for it, right? I'm not going to drop $50 on a fucking pen just to draw on my tablet. I just wanna know for sure so I can stop this goose chase.

from experience, most of the time CN/JP XXL is AU L and AU L is like US M. always fucks me up when i get some BAPE and mastermind shit and i have to ask for the specific measurements, because even then, their measurements do fluctuate between shirts, hoodies and sweaters.
if the listing doesnt specify that it's US sizing, assume it's ASIA* size. i never buy stuff from temu, but aliexpress sellers do list measurements (still dubious though).

good luck.

*philippines and indonesia sizing is kind of in-between US and AU, from experience an XXL from there is too big for me

>>102894678
Which is good by the way, that's what open source is supposed to be. The whole mindset of "I invented something so now I should be able to prevent others from iterating/innovating upon it" is retarded.
People portray it as another case of Chinese slave labor being cheaper than EU manufacturing when bambu just makes better machines (That happen to be cheaper too). Prusa had many years of first mover's advantage and got lazy refusing to innovate, it is what it is.

Update
Tested all 10 pots
Only 1 worked.

The really cool thing is that because the controllers aren't made to constantly be reopened and adjusted like this, the pot holder has now snapped off completely and other parts of my controller are now broken and need further repairs. Cheaping out on pots now means I have to spend much more to fix the rest of this shit.
Thank you based chinese shit ;_;

>>102891999
Do mouser or digikey sell directly? I couldn't find any listings from them. Any other pot recs?
As for hall sensors, I considered replacing the sticks completely but it's a lot of effort when I've got spare controllers anyway. I just don't like leaving shit broken when it's fixable.
>>
>>102896328
Sorry I thought when you asked for good replacement parts you meant outside of Ali. Mouser and digikey are both websites (mouser is more popular in eu, digikey in US) where professionals can buy electronics. A quick look shows they have some with minimum order amounts of 1 at ~2€/pcs. Not super cheap, but at least you know it's genuine and it comes with a spec sheet etc.
No idea for Ali, I've been using hall effect controllers for a while now, so I didn't have to deal with that bs.
>I just don't like leaving shit broken when it's fixable
Based mindset. It's up to you, if you want genuine parts, go to either of those websites, if you want to roll the dice again, maybe some other anon has experience with buying analog sticks from Ali.

>are ps5 controllers so shitty that they've already started to get drift?
they were drifting from months in kek, let alone years

this one i've spent too much time fixing at this point because all the pots i get either are busted or seem to fail eventually anyway. the annoying thing is it worked mostly OK but I thought I'd just sort it out with my newest pot order and instead theey were all busted

>>102896680
I'll have a look again at Mouser (EU)
From my quick glance it seemed they were wholesalers and I couldn't just pick up a few pieces. I only bought the pots because I thought they'd be fine since it's a cheap part. $2 is also not a major loss but I didn't consider the time cost in dealing with this bullshit

I did do some further research and apparently taking the sticks out to replace them is a bitch on the PS5 controller if you don't have a hot air gun, which I don't. Might look into how much a half decent one is.

>From my quick glance it seemed they were wholesalers and I couldn't just pick up a few pieces.
They are wholesellers, but most items can be bought in smaller amounts. The prices per piece will be higher though for small batch orders, that's why they list multiple prices depending on order amounts.
Without looking into what specs playstation controllers need, parts like the Alps Alpine RKJXV1220001 or RKJXV122400R can be bought in minimum order amounts of 1 for around 3,30€/piece. Again, i didn't check compatibility in terms of size or specs though.
That being said in this pic by ifixit you can see that the original used ones are by alps too:
https://valkyrie.cdn.ifixit.com/media/2021/02/16171911/PS5_DualSense_5-scaled-2048x1536.jpg
Anyways, I just looked and saw shipping would fuck you. 20€ shipping cost for mouser kek.
My local makerspace pools together for orders so shipping is free for us, but I just looked out of curiosity and saw the 20€ pricetag. I always wondered why they did it, guess I know why now.
Maybe other anons have ideas on where to get them? Or look for the same potentiometers by alps but on other storefronts with better shipping policies for individuals?
A quick look on amazon shows that they are being sold on amazon.
Massive markup, but amazon at least ships for free, so it may still be cheaper for only 2.

what kind of chair do you guys use? these chinese gaming chairs still seem to be stupidly good value for what they offer, albeit for several trade-offs
sub-$100 with arm rests, tilt, faux leather and 10cm foam is impossible to get unless it's like the dxracer cheapo gaming chairs
>>
>>102900775
Gaming chairs are a meme. Even chink gamers know it by now, which is way the chairs are getting cheaper and cheaper
If you have the money, just get an office chair with lumbar support from Office Depot
>>
>>102901006
i know it, my dude
but it's just not great out there. a stool for $229.
i can buy 3 fucking stupid chink chairs for that amount of money
>>
>>102901097
i heard the ikea chairs are supposed to be decent
>>
>>102900775
Listen anon, if you live in a place that has IKEA, do the following: On a day where Ikea is open, preferably during the week if you can, get to Ikea around opening time. Head to the office section, there will be no one there so you have every chair for yourself to try out. Now sit down on each chair you find interesting and check for ergonomics. Does it fit you well? How does it feel? Does it have good support? Once you have 2-3 candidates roll then next to each other and compare them. Which one is comfier? Which one makes you sit more healthily? Which one would be better for a long gaming session?
If you want some more aesthetics they have a "gaming" subsection too, which are basically office chairs that don't look horrible.
Then buy the chair that appeals to you from there. It'll be reasonably priced, you can take it home immediately, you save on shipping and you have an easy way for returnd or to get replacement parts. Comes with a decent warranty too ( I think 5 years for office, 2 years for gaming chairs, don't quote me on that though).
In general stay away from cheap faux leather, it isn't breathable so you'll sweat disgustingly on it in summer and it will start flaking off after a year or so of use.
Also foam will quickly lose spring, so personally I prefer mesh.

The things you should pay attention to are posture when using it, lumbar support, breathability, ease of cleaning if you spill something on it or some shit and price.
I have a styrspel personally, but I got it for cheap because it was a showpiece with some scratches. In general, accept that in the gaming section except for some nice features (armrests that fold inwards for controller use and stuff like that), office and gaming will do the same stuff, except office will be cheaper and gaming look nicer.
>>
>>102901185
>>102901228
for reference here's my IKEA page for office chairs
i've got a shortlist of the features that i want like comfier sit, lumbar tilt, foam (lots and lots of foam) for naps and doing stuff while lying down, arm rests, headrests, footrest, preferably thicker faux leather
ergo chairs are sensible, but they're always at a premium. back at the officeworks page headrest ergo chairs start at $480 or something - at that pricepoint i can buy a secret labs or steelcase chair
yes, i know gaming chairs are not great but goddamnit they're appealing for what they offer at these pricepoints compared to you know, herman miller and aerons and shit

very frustrating process tbqh
>>
>>102901228
Don't get the styrspel though, it's a great chair, but 370$ in the US I just saw.
EU has it at 230€ and mine was around 150€ iirc because of the scratched paint.
In general US prices are a lot higher than EU prices it seems, but they probably are still competitive on terms of value for money.

>>
>>102901300
Take it from someone who used to own a DXracer, they suck ass.
Sweaty, surprisingly uncomfortable for longer sessions, lasted about a year before the faux leather peeled off.
Yeah a proper mesh chair costs maybe 2x, but it'll last at least 5x the time, so it's still better value.

>>
>>102901832
It's more that amazon prices have come down as the price arbitrage has equalised since 90% of amazon stock is just ali dropshippers. I only buy shit from amazon now in two cases: 1: I already know exactly what I want (branded item for example) and 2; I want it quickly.

I live in a first world country so it is not a problem for me as I can return items that have problems. Besides, I usually check ebay first for 'used' goods where it's just some guy who got it as a gift or something and is just selling it off cheap and it's never been used.
>>
>>102902017

>>
>>102902099
No no you purposefully buy used where the images are actual images the person took of the item. It's the 'new' stuff on ebay you avoid.
>>
>>102902115
There's so much "new" crap on ebay. How do you filter for the true used stuff like old ebay used to be?
>>
>>102902147
There's a search filter on the left, anon.
>>
>>102902016
This website explains the process pretty well:
https://www.redpoints.com/blog/amazon-commingled-inventory-management/
TL;DR:
- if an item is shipped by Amazon, there's one bin for this item, regardless of seller, where it gets stored
- when you buy one, a random item gets pulled from the bin
- so if 1 store sells 50 genuine apple chargers and another sells 100 fake ones they go into the same bin
- if you order from the genuine listing, you have a 33% chance of a genuine item, but if you order from the fake listing, you also have a 33% chance of getting a genuine item instead
>>
>>102902283
i'm pretty sure they tightened this up over time. do their best to identify sources of counterfeit goods and cease relations with that supplier. notably i know fake fragrances / electronics *can* be sold. i highly doubt amazon likes having disgruntled customers, thus they crack down on it eventually
>>
>>102900475
wifi controlled usb ports. No way you can find it for 15$ at the local store

chinese batteries are generally unsafe, so ya
>>
>>102907329
senpai, need to solve the root issue. if you regularly use your car, (ie it's not sitting stagnant for weeks on end), and your battery is dying / you can't start up, the car battery is likely toast. there is no "recharging," it and it is futile trying to keep on, it needs to be replaced. such jump-starter kits are useful for exactly that, starting up one time in a pinch. it should not be your go-to regular routine
>>
>>102907329
>2 or 3 months, I used it like once in between
>>102907442
>(ie it's not sitting stagnant for weeks on end)
Welp, missed that. FYI using a car like that is what leads to dead batteries. Cars should be run regularly on a weekly basis, driving ~30 minutes non-stop. Various car systems, things you have plugged into USB ports, etc. drain car battery over time. Running the car, assuming your alternator is functional, charges up the car battery for normal use. Beyond just the car battery, it is in your interest to use the car more regularly for all various systems. A car used sparingly for months on end unironically breaks down quicker than if it is used regularly.
>>
>>102907329
check consumption while the car is in deep sleep (5 minutes after you exit the car and lock the doors), if its more than ~15ma something had gone bad with at least one of the modules in the car (anecdotal example: bad tantalum capacitor in the ecm).
if the consumption is alright just replace the battery. i have a silver-lead-calcium from magneti-marelli on mine and that shit is almost as old as the car (the car is 20yo)

They are just starting black friday sales in 6 hours. Why didn't you wait?
I'm not sure if to buy P1P now or wait for what they will release Q1 2025. I have old reprap printers at home, I was repair/upgrade them easily, so I'm bit worried going with bambulab with proprietary parts, but it's printing so fast out of the box that I can't ignore it anymore.
>>
>>102864279
On old printers you can print just as good, but it did take some time to calibrate. I mean, e3d v6 was introduced 10 years ago and it's used to this day, stepper motors are the same, hardened linear rods or rails are still the same, 8 bit controllers and old drivers are little behind, but ok.
Problem is that people bought those prusa i3 clones with acrylic frames or ender 3 later. These were cheap, but they had their issues that could be trivially solved with more expensive parts.
What improved printing over the years is better slicers, better filament and gadgets like auto bed leveling. And convergence to certain proven designs.

I bought an Android car radio for my Focus mk2 that communicated perfectly with the car for the time display and climate control but it would drain my battery in a day because it prevented my car from going to sleep. It would even persist after removing the radio and the only way to fix it was to hook up the stock radio again. Wasn't able to solve the battery drain by cutting power wires either due to the CANbus being all retarded.

After that I bought a brand that apparently had a better reputation, Junsun or whatever and that radio did work perfectly, except for not being able to tell my steering wheel display the right time anymore. Steering wheel controls do work though.

>tl;dr: impossible to say for sure

Need some advice dudes.
I want to retrofit Android Auto to my car (a 2016 Peugeot 108 if it matters) so naturally I'm looking at the Chinese options.
>Option 1
One of those head units that got Android on them.
I'm thinking I can get away with the cheapest, weakest option because all I need it to do is play the radio/bluetooth, handle calls, maybe read OBD stuff once in a blue moon and run Android Auto, so the heavier applications would run on my phone.
>Option 2
One of those standalone screens which are much cheaper, require no installation but are kind of janky.

If I go for the former option how do I choose something that's good enough and not trash?
A quick look at AliExpress gives me 8 trillion different models with around 10 reviews total all together.

Any advice on the subject would be appreciated, I'm going in kind of blind.

can't give specific advice other than first of all excluding things that don't fit your car's dash specifically. also i know you shouldn't interact with phone as you drive and whatnot, but just get one of those nicer stick-on-dash phone holders? i find on the dash in front of you is in your natural line-of-sight and doesn't distract from road much if you are looking at directions. use voice commands on your phone for more hands-free interaction

These always look really fun for one night, but then they are just taking away half your usable bed and are too big to get rid of in any normal way.
Either that or the model was a midget and the thing that arrives is much smaller than expected.

These two anons (and me) are wishing something better for you, such as not sleeping in a bed filled with filth. You can't tell us that you prefer food crumbs, hair and those rough fabric balls that form when you use the same sheets for months on end over a proper clean bed.

i think it is the girl anon
and from me pointing this out, you guys need to understand that girls play by a different ruleset, so the
>why don't you do ____, because that's what i would do
will not necessarily apply to her. i talked with my wife about this when we were dating, and read a few articles after she commented that i "had no stuff"
women collect things to serve as checkpoints or mementos in their life. they also need items to put on walls and cushions and random decorations to create a homebase where they feel comforted and safe
by this reasoning it also manifests in negative ways such as messy beds and bathrooms filled with perfumes and make-up products and soaps. when women go through depression or feel down because of their bodies they'll also tend to stop cleaning up and let their possessions accumulate

so it's not as easy as "just clean your room" sometimes

Anon women aren't magical beings from outer space, they are human just like anyone else. Messy beds and not cleaning isn't a woman thing, it's a depression thing, and that doesn't depend on your gender.
As someone who spend many years of their life severely depressed, believe me when I say I have gazed into the abyss until it got uncomfortable and broke eye contact. How else do you think I know about the lint balls that form after many months of using the same sheets. There's no point to be unnecessarily rude to a depressed person, but normalizing their behavior and dirty room does not help them and is not compassion. It will make them feel better for a few minutes but is destructive.
As I said, wish better for that anon, male or female, because that is no way to live. Girlfailure or Boyfailure.

Are mini "dremels" from ali any good? looking to get a few both for personal use and to sell around. I know they wont compete with a proper real Dremel 3000, but at $100 vs $10 I wonder just how bad they can be. I care about reliability more than anything, don't care and I expect them to be weak as fuck anyway, but not to break after an hour of use.

Dropshippers deserve the rope.
Anyways, not something that can be universally answered, depends on the motor, psu and to some extent gearing. If it's just a 5V DC motor and a USB plug, it won't cut through shit. But there's also pretty faithful clones of dremel tools apparently.

Obviously use the filters as the other anon said, but the price filter also really helps. Start around 3-10$ to filter out the absolute assholes putting shit for 1$ with a description about how you should negotiate a fair price/searching for X, and filter out the top end where the genuinely new items are. That seems to get rid of 80% of the retard listings.

>Can I get cheap shit in America like food and/or services?
Dude
If you're poor in America (or anywhere) you can literally live off of stuff like bacon, eggs, and bread.
Other good staples are potato, cheese, and onion.
You can make almost endless variations just using different condiments, spices, or adding something like some tomato or an avocado.
Shit ain't hard

Why do people no longer no how to do poverty cooking?

I've built a Voron printer from a Chinese kit this year. My previous printer is Creality CR10 first gen I bought in 2017.
It's like stepping into the future, holy shit. It has an eddy current probe at the toolhead and can scan the bed in seconds to produce a high res mesh. Bed height variance is only 0.12mm. I am still amazed that when I fill the build plate with models every single first layer line it prints sticks.
Huge step up from a thin sagging bed that I had to manually adjust with inconveniently placed gears where it was a toss-up of whether the print sticks or not. And it would warp because of lack of enclosure anyway.

> Creality CR10, sagging bed
This is what I'm talking about. I started printing before Creality was a thing and I never had issues that their printers introduced. I love the company for making 3D printing more popular and affordable, but I would never touch any of their printers.
The thing 2020 extrusions with V-slot wheels and weird bed attachment is introducing lot of sag. Since my first printer I had 3030 extrusions and hardened 8mm guide rods. Those rods have zero wear of them to this day. For the bed I used 3mm float glass which is crazy flat, but yeah, I needed to manually level it here and then.
But yeah, convenience introduced lot of new problems as well. For example switching glass to bed sheets pretty much requires some kind of auto bed leveling. Or using fancy gears in extruder to make it lighter and print faster now means you have to spend 100x to get rid of the inconsistency that it introduced compared to $0.50 gear and bearing that we used back in the days.

The way that works is that AliExpress paid UEFA for the advertisement deal, which is Superbowl levels of expensive. To maximize their returns they had great deals during that time so that people who didn't use Ali but saw the ads think that it's an amazing site and become customers. The UEFA packaging is just a part of that, Ali does that with their own money, it's basically for PR.
UEFA doesn't do two way agreements, because they have nothing to gain from them - they do football and get anyone and anything with money to pay them for the privilege to advertise during it.

Everything here in the shelter is a recurring chore my god lol in order to sanitize the bed pretty much gotta throw in the pillow + sheet and blanket into washer and dryer every now and then. And when I've made my bad messes on the bed I've manually cleaned it up and threw the mess into the trash. I've been insanely depressed for so many damn years on end it's ridiculous. I have pretty bad insomnia so mobile games are my escape from reality to cope and keep myself entertained all day + emulators for Pokemon ROMHacks etc.. This morning I was all sapped on energy and tired and sleepy as shit the entire day and have to even sleep again.

Me and my gf have been approved for housing recently and will eventually move out of shelter and into our new home. California is a total shithole and a pain in the ass to live in and rent is insanely fucking expensive nowadays no matter where you want to live.

I know what's like anon
I was lucky to have strong family support to overcome
However, I did have to find motivation and change my habits. Playing games all day every day in the bed is no good, I've been there. I still love my games but you got to stick to a plan where there is less of that and more of going out, going to the gym, keeping a routine, finding other hobbies. I also rediscovered religion after being an atheist since age 11, started meditating, reading books like I used to, listening to music with eyes closed. It doesn't go away on its own.
I used to be a dead man walking and the last thing I cared was if my bed looked good.
>>
>>102923765
In the uk you used to be able to get large bags of bacon scraps/offcuts for quite cheap, there's always cheaper options if you know what to look for and what to do with it.
>>
>>102924941
Damn, bacon is pretty expensive here (relatively speaking, food in general is rather cheap) but good for you if that's different where you live.
For what it's worth, groceries are cheap as shit if you just buy with your brain on and cook yourself, but people will buy ultra processed garbage by brands and then be surprised when it gets expensive. "Keeping House" used to involve conscious budgeting for stuff like that, but these days people are so spoiled they can't fathom putting in some strategy.

for what it's worth, the reason why "just clean your bed/room" isn't good advice because the problem isn't the dirty bed - the root cause (depression, disease, etc) is.
you clean the bed once and clear all your piss bottles and then a week later it's going to pile up again

personally, when i go through depression i do the opposite and clean everything. i vacuum, i move all the closets, desks and drawers and get all the mold and dust out, i mop and then i throw things away or give them to family+friends
and later on everything builds up again and i do it all again while not addressing the underlying issues which can't be fixed
going back to femanon posting her plushies, she's trying to feel better posting her small haul and everyone went in on her telling her to clean her bed and fix her shit. cleaning her room might make it look better but it's not going to fix the bigger issues which is whyif we were normies, then no-one would comment on the mess in the first place

anyway, i hope everyone improves their situation, step by step
