Why is that ? Why don’t we use capacitors as batteries
self-discharge and low energy density

A battery can store thousands of times more energy than a capacitor having the same volume. Batteries also can supply that energy in a steady, dependable stream. But sometimes they can’t provide energy as quickly as it is needed.Take, for example, the flashbulb in a camera. It needs a lot of energy in a very short time to make a bright flash of light. So instead of a battery, the circuit in a flash attachment uses a capacitor to store energy. That capacitor gets its energy from batteries in a slow but steady flow. When the capacitor is fully charged, the flashbulb’s “ready” light comes on. When a picture is taken, that capacitor releases its energy quickly. Then, the capacitor begins to charge up again.Since capacitors store their energy as an electric field rather than in chemicals that undergo reactions, they can be recharged over and over again. They don’t lose the capacity to hold a charge as batteries tend to do. Also, the materials used to make a simple capacitor usually aren’t toxic. That means most capacitors can be tossed into the trash when the devices they power are discarded.

theyre mean for different things. a capacitor holds electricity until it gets full and duscharges it all at once. a battery holds electricity and drains it slowly.

Ironically throwing them into the middle of your closest river would be better for the environment, a small amount of lithium and some plastic floating in water actually pollutes less than burning god knows how much garbage.Only true for lithium batteries though, car batts have lead, which would poison a huge amount of water.

>>102858890>turns on device>runs out of power 5 seconds later
>>102863416>>102863472wholesome
Capacitors drop in voltage as they discharge, and their energy density is poor compared to batteries. In high power situations, caps are mostly good for supplying instantaneous current.
>>102858982i dont think thats why
>>102859608>capacitors dont hold charge while unpowered
>>102859762Retarded dunning Kruger narcissistic.
what a surprise, this guy was actually posting the threads about his own twitter account... who could have guessed?
>>102872368This.Batteries have a quasi-flat region in their discharge curve where most of the power is stored. The voltage indicated on the battery (i.e. 3.7v) indicates the voltage of this flat region. On the other hand, (super)caps discharge in a basically linear fashion, meaning that most of the energy is stored outside of the voltage range your device needs (too high or too low).
