Seems like a massive gimmick, there's no situation where you would need to have significant mouse movement but also have your hands in a typing stance.
They also fucked with the modifier keys, so it'll make swapping between keyboards annoying. Also you can't change the keycaps because of the nipple in the middle.
And lastly I think it looks and sounds a bit plastic and hollow based on the few videos I watched.
>>
>>102971530
True that. Thank you fren just saved me some money.

I just think it's lame they ditched topre for this one, and I'm not even a topre fanatic
>>

If you still want to spend some money, you could just get one of their topre keyboards instead. I feel like that would be more interesting than a mechanical keyboard crossed with a thinkpad.
>>
>>102971682
It really seems like they found a cool niche and had people who were willing to pay for their stuff, then decided to just scrap that and make a regular mechanical keyboard instead.
Now they're competing with all of those new $100 Chinesium-aluminium boards instead, or a fancy custom for around the same price as their board.

what the fuck happened to those A4 tech x7 keyboards that had extra keys on the sides? I bought one of them over 12 years ago and it finally gave up and break and now I can't even find a similar model anymore. Hell I can't even find ANY keyboard that has extra keys in it. what the fuck did we go back in time or something? Every keyboard for sale looks like some generic bullshit office keyboard
>>
>>102971822
You mean like extra macro buttons on the side? That was a big trend back in ye olden days (it wasn't that long ago but it feels like it was).
People realised that you don't need dedicated macro buttons when you can just remap something you don't use, or use layers. Or if you really need extra buttons, get a seperate macropad and you can position it somewhere where it's less annoying than permanently being on the side of your keyboard.

>People realised that you don't need dedicated macro buttons when you can just remap something you don't use
I don't know what you are talking about honestly, those extra keys were godlike for playing MMOs where I need everything to be close to my left hand. I don't got the time to go to the J key on my keyboard just to toggle a macro.
I looked into the macropads but those are awkard and I really would like for everything to be in pinky finger range.

Typically I would say get a macropad or a full sized keyboard and use the numberpad as a macropad, but Keychron have a few boards with macro buttons like the Q3 Max or Q65.
Most of the other boards I've seen with left side macro buttons are shitty but also equally as expensive. Maybe someone else has a good idea though? There might be something on Aliexpress that I don't know about.

You can get an Aula F75 on Aliexpress right now for about $40 - $50. They've got a black model, or you can buy a set of cheap $10 black keycaps if you aren't happy with that option.
As for the switches, either pick the tactile switch option, buy some seperate silent cream yellow switches or some holy panda switches (they're holy panda clones but for the price they aren't bad) on aliexpress for dirt cheap.
>>
>>10298250
Actually nevermind I'm dumb, I just remembered all the F75 stock switches are all linear (I think?). So just buy any black one and swap the switches out for some tactiles.

They just use IME and essentially type romaji, and it converts into runes. If you type "shiawase" and hit space you'd get 幸せ so it ends up not needing anything but QWERTY. And it makes sense too when you realize that the "Japanese" keyboard layout would require frequently moving your fingers up to the number row and the side character sections for commonly used keys, that sounds like a huge pain in the ass.

Current: Code Cherry Clear Full keyboard

Cheap and easy prebuilt option, Keychron V6 Max. Comes with gateron switches but you could swap them out if you don't like them.
The Monsgeek M5W would give you a full sized aluminum barebones board and leave plenty of budget for your switches and keycaps. I've heard good things about the QK100, but it would go a little over budget.
And lastly, there are cheap Chinese boards like the Mathew KC108 that I saw a few hours ago. I don't know anything about it, but I think it's funny that a Chinese dude named his keyboard Mathew.

looking for an aluminum 65% board, it seems like they all have a clacky pingy sound to them. Is this just a trait they all have, and if I want something deeper sounding I need to get a 75%?
>>
I mixed and matched different switches in my keyboard, is that sacrilege or something? Customized for me so I really don't give a fuck. But I wanted my normal typing experience to be on the more silent side, with heavy tactile and auditable feedback on things like backspace, enter, and all the function/special keys. Whole keyboard is tactile, but some keys have a harder bump and louder thump.

So I have Silent Bluish White switches for all my character and number keys, and Spacebar. A mix of Holy Panda/Gateron Beer/KTT Matcha switches on pretty much everything else depending on whatever autistic grouping I've made the keys to.

The result is I get varied different sensations around my keyboard, but the overall experience is consistent since the most used keys are all still the same.

Also kinda makes me feel like there's some mechanical switch or something being pressed whenever I hit Backspace or Enter.

was not sure what to expect as i've never used topre before. i've seen these a good amount over the years, but i couldnt justify the price when there is so many cheaper mech boards out there. and i already had enough keyboards to satisfy me.. or so i thought anyway. so my keyboard harem grows
typing feels really fucking good,
for reference i'm coming from daily driving a pok3r with mx browns (ofc) and i do like the layering and keymapping abilities of the pok3r (plus heavy metal base) but this layout on the hhkb seems very comfy once i get more used to it. i had the pok3r capslock as fn whereas this is a control key with the left super being the fn key. in comparison to the mx browns, it feels comparable but thumpier on keypress in a really satisfying way, punchy? idk how to describe it but you probably know what i mean. so far i love the layout design and the typing feel and i'm not just saying that as copium for the $150 i paid.
might just need some blank keycaps and possibly retrobrite the shell? it's supposed to be white and grey right? i think the yellowing is kinda kino though, i just need an old eizo monitor and some japanese cigs to smoke in my room.

when i type my right hand does a significant amount more work including using my index to hit the spacebar. i still type really fast like this but i know that i would make less mistakes if i allowed my thumbs to do stuff. do you guys have similar retard problems? try to break the habit and have better typing form or just embrace it and get carpal tunnel in one hand?

Your idea of mixing heavy and lighter tactiles seems like it'd feel better though, might give it a try when I make a macropad to use while drawing.
>>
>>102988894
I don't think it's wrong to mix switches but I do think it's wrong to put different switches on `-=[]\;',./ etc., or to do different switches for different mods. IMO there should be unity across certain thematic groups: nav keys and mods, lock mods, alphas, numpad. The spacebar can be different from the alphas but the sound and feel shouldn't greatly depart from them, if anything I'm ok with changing the spacebar to bring it more in line with the other keys, not to make it more distinct

I've done clicky switches on lock keys and I've done different switches on mods and on spacebar, but I try to be sparing with switch variety in the keyboard because if the keycaps look the same they should conform to our expectation that they feel the same too

Try either gateron gecko or lichicx lucy. Both pretty smooth stock, no ping, and less mushy than other silent linears.

If you've got an urge to burn money, buy the Novice68 or Tester68 kit for $20.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007009964687.html
Get some dirt cheap switches like holy panda clones, outemu milk tea or silent cream yellows, then finish the whole build off with the cheapest keycaps you can find that aren't too ugly.
Mod the board so it actually sounds good, and now you've got a fun challenge of making the cheapest possible custom board sound and feel good. Just copy some youtuber if you aren't sure what mods to do.

I need a new keyboard for the office so it has to be silent. I tried a yunzii with milk switches and it felt good but I'm not sure if the lubed switches require frequent relubing and the quality of the brand. Any recommendations?

alright guys, i got a bunch of switches and tried them on my bauer lite and here are my thoughts (all stock):

gateron smoothies - medium weight, high pitched sound, fairly loud, has a marbly sound. slight amount of stem wobble
gateron milky yellow - quieter, lower pitched, slightly heavier. def less smooth
ttc frozen silent - obviously silent, a little heavier than smoothies. very minimal stem wobble
gateron oil kings - heavier than smoothies, just as loud, but lower pitched. noticeably less smooth
ws morandi - scratchy, low pitch, can notice stem wobble. slightly heavier than smoothies
Akko rosewood- very low pitched and quieter than the rest
gazzew u4t - tactile obviously, heavier switches, low pitch, not too loud
nk cremes - have tried these on a different board, didn't like them, weird sound and just feels bad to press imo

my favorite has to be the smoothies, by far the nicest ones both feel and soundwise. ill probably shop around for some higher-pitched switches since i liked the smoothies so much.
>>
>>103009848
The morandis are pretty smooth in my experience. Are the smoothies just that much smoother by comparison or what?
>>
>>103009848
how are you going to try all that and not try mx blacks?
>>
>>102993175
Ok faggots bought it

The boba u4 has zero pre-travel distance which makes it feel kinda stiff and is on the heavier side (62g). It feels like a shittier thinkpad keyboard since the travel distance is way higher than the scissor switch.

I like the rubber dome and the bottom out feels good since it is soft but my akko cream yellows gives an overall better experience because there is travel distance.

total newb here, was looking to get my first mechanical keyboard but I thought that building it myself might be more fun. i see that the go to place to get cheap parts is aliexpress but other than the differences of the switches i kinda know nothing about PCBs stabilizers, etc, any indications on what to look for? i would like to build a good aluminum frame kebyoard, would prefer a 75% but even 65% is fine for me. also what are quality indicators for keycaps?

I'll start by saying that for mid range aluminum frame 75% keyboards, prebuilt options are the most cost effective option right now. A bunch of Chinese companies came out with stuff like the Rainy75, Bridge75 or SK75 for about $100ish dollars and they're all great stock.
Building it yourself is fun, but these boards are all hotswap, which means you can just take them apart and swap the switches and keycaps out for new ones later, and they're all easy to open up and modify, so you can try out stuff like foams and other mods there as well.
As for keycaps, they're a bit of a gamble on aliexpress, but I've personally had good luck with KBDiy and Womier keycaps, and they're both dirt cheap. At a higher price (but not too expensive), I've heard good things about Akko keycaps, and for a little bit more there's also Osume. Be careful with random amazon sellers since many of them just sell shit they bought from Aliexpress for 3x the price.
>>
>>103017932 (me)
Oh I almost forgot, if you want to build it yourself then the Leobog Hi75 is about $50 on aliexpress, which is probably your best option. (buy a replacement knob for $2 though since the stock is fucking ugly.)

Something Epomaker, Cidoo, Royal Kludge...theres a reason why only the F75 is kinda popular from aula
>>103019476
Because I owned an Aula F3050 because I was drawn in by the icy aesthetic. 4 months in keys would randomly stop working sporadically. Then multiple keys, and now after a year and a half the whole top row of letters also writes numbers, the connection keeps dying (both wireless and wired) and leds randomly start to flicker. I paid 60$ for the trash and luckily 2 yrs isn't up yet so I returned it for a hopeful refund. Although idk if I'll get it since i did smack it. Pic rel (old build)

thanks for the tips, I'm looking around to understand what I really want, right now I'm sure I want the color palette to be like picrel (any tips on what keycaps to look for?), the knob looks fun to have. As for the size i'm still debating wheter a 65 % or 75% is better, I see that there are also some keyboards marketed as 60% with arrows and I know that 60% are the most famous ones in this hobby so I might lean into that format. I guess november will have lots of discounts so I'll just get a clear idea on what to get by then and then wager my options, but I guess the best thing to do is to get a good deal on an already assembled keyboard and then modify it myself in the future.

I think GMK 9009 clones are pretty close to that look, so either some cheap ones from the KBDiy store on aliexpress for about $20 or some slightly nicer ones from the Akko website for $40 would fit well.
As for 60% vs 65% vs 75%, it's mostly a matter of aesthetics at that point. In the same kind of budget range the Lucky65 and Sugar65 do open up the option to build it yourself with a barebones kit, but the SK65 comes prebuilt and is basically the same keyboard (it even has Lucky engraved on the back).

I have very little experience with all this stuff but of the few types of silent switches I own I find the Outemus feel mushy and bad.

these on the other hand feel very nice:
https://divinikey.com/products/lichicx-raw-switches
(I've tried the "big bump", not the other two)

Maybe a little less silent, because they have a slight bottom-out, but the trade-off is well worth it imo and nobody could accuse them of being loud.

Unless you hate the knob, get the SK65 from the Womier store instead. Shit is the same price as the Lucky65 with the halloween offer they have right now but it comes fully built, then you can take it apart and have a spare set of switches and keycaps. Also I'm pretty sure they're basically the same board? The SK65 even has Lucky engraved on the back.
But I do like those switches, I have them on my work keyboard and they feel nice.

BLOG:

i just got my first ever mechanical keyboard... it's... redragon pollux. i was greatly interested in this because it has compact 65% layout + numpad, and i got it from a guy who sold it for 70% cheaper. i thought having numpad would be important as compsci graduate looking for work, but i forgot that i can just get a separate cheaper numpad.

my first impression after 2 days is that... this thing sucks and hurts my wrists. i've been interested in modding keyboards for the last few months, like changing switches or keycaps and stuff like that despite being jobless and broke as shit. turns out i feel more comfortable typing on something that feels like a laptop's keyboard

i'm saving for low profile keyboards now. for the time being i'm going to save for ajazz ak832. i found this thing called goldtouch and boy it does look mesmerizing, but it's looks so damn bulky and living on my mom's couch won't give me any room for it. maybe one day i'll be rich enough to get nuphy air.
>>
>>103034263
I was sure that it did but it turns out that the answer is no. As for the Lucky65, it seems some models support via and some don’t, so double check that before you buy.

>i'm saving for low profile keyboards now.
just don't make the rookie mistake of thinking one type of low profile switch will work on any board. It's not like Cherry MX where everything's standard. If something is made for Gateron low-profile switches then you can't just put something else in there.
>>
>>103034486
low profile switches aren't significantly low profile compared to mxs.
you should just get something with a laptop switch and forget about mechanical keyboards
>>

i know that. some low profile switches is only suited for certain type of boards.
