Is there a monitor tier list?
I'm in the market for a new PC. My current one is about 10 years old and I don't know what passes for good specs these days. I'm looking to spend around $1200. I mostly use my computer for web browsing but I occasionally use it for gaming and CAD work. A frustration I have with my current computer is that it isn't able to build Android but it's also just slower than I would like in general. Any suggestions?
>>102986222The only reason to do so is for a fix in the release notes that directly impacts you. Otherwise, don't bother because it can be unstable elsewhere.

>>1029860092x32GB makes no sense for workstation/high end. How would I upgrade from this if I ever felt the need? And I certainly will, sooner or later, as I know from experience. So if I also populate the other two DIMM slots I cripple my RAM speed and if I only replace the 2x32GB with 2x48GB I waste more money than buying the latter kit right now (which is what I'll be doing since 2x32GB is not that much less anyway atm).>>102986633About the felt volume of my 4090 alone. 1660S for $80 vs 2060 for $125 for a budget build. Which one, /g/? I will say that it's my first proper gaming PC because I've been a poorfag all my life. On benchmark sites the 1660S is only slightly behind the 2060, but people are mentioning some extra features of the latter like DLSS and RT, which I wonder how much would matter for someone that will seldom play games, but would like a lasting build.

You save $200, but those $200 would give you the most significant difference in FPS.Reminder that the 4070 and 6800 XT is only a 50% fps improvement over the 4060 or 6650 XT.>This benchmark shows the 4070 / 6800xt giving 2x fpsthis is valid but the graphics settings will give a huge difference. High graphics settings will give 2x more fps for the better GPU's, but if you lower you settings to "high" and use 1080p, it's more like 1.5x, while with max graphic settings on 1440p even the 4070 / 7800 xt only gives 80fps which is way better than 40fps on the 4060 / 6650 XT, but it's not a realistic setting to use for someone with a 144fps+ monitor (in my opinion, I like fps more than graphics).

CK, Victoria, Stellaris etc paradox games decouple simulation speed from frame rate. You can have smooth 120fps but if your CPU can't handle all the economical math you are getting massive slowdown, and the opposite, even if fps drops to single digits it won't affect gameplay much if your simulation speed is at 100% thanks to v-cache.

>>102989156https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3jg4t7It's not much more expensive if you go for a 7600(X) instead of a Zen4 X3D. Performance is similar on average but with a big SD - I think you could justify the AM4 build if you play a lot of games that scale hard off 3D cache. For a general gaming rig though I'd rather have the newer platform. They're both fine options, mind you, so don't feel pressured to consoom.
>>102989156>why the 12400?because if you're going to buy outdated hardware, you might as well buy the cheap outdated hardwareIt should do you fine at 1440p, might limit you a bit at 1080p but you shouldn't be at 1080p with a 4070 super & it's not like the framerates you'd be getting at 1080p would be bad even after being limited.7600x trades blows with 5700x3d and yes, it is a more expensive build, it means you won't need to buy ddr5/mobo again if you upgrade. If you don't plan to upgrade and just rely on hanging in there as you say, just hang in there with the 12400 instead

I do think it's a bit of a false claim it's "not much more expensive".130$ difference (60$cpu, 40$ ram, 30$ itx mobo, the atx is an even bigger diff) is not far off the difference between a 4070 super & 4070 ti super (160$). if you opt for 12400f, you actually do get enough for that upgradeIn my eyes you're basically spending more now to spend less in the future

Does anyone have any recommendations for a 12 or 16-port ethernet switch? Probably either gigabit or 2.5 gigabit, idk if it matters. I need one to manage the wall-lined cables throughout my house. >>102989823>I'm talking "24h of Furmark" stablefurmark is a heat test, not really a clock stability test. the vrms and board will keep heating and heating until they throttle out. some bad bins will show their instability at higher temperatures while they will be perfectly fine at their average gaming temps.

/pcbg/ I don't know what to do hereWhen repasting my GPU I notice that the mounting pressure is just uneven. I look from the outside once mounted and there's no way I can make that even. The original thermal pads are thick but only cover one side. It's like they're in the way, but that's the default. I check by opening the card after using it for a bit and indeed the side where the pads are seems to make not enough contact with the heatsink compared to the rest of the die.I have no clue what to do here. I don't want to fuck the pads up. There's obviously no easy replacement. Replacing them with ever so slightly thinner pads might be worse, there has to be a reason they used those. The screws go all the way in as they're supposed to. But that shit is uneven.

Why the fuck do people use contact frames on AM4/AM5? These things where specifically made for the very specific LGA1700 bending problem on Intel (which these idiots still didnt manage to fix on 1851). AMD never had a problem with this and is already easy enough to cool even if it HAD a similar problem. All it does is you taking a risk to fuck up your socket or at least system stability if you fuck up the screw pressure.

Hi /pcbg/I’m finalizing the parts list for my first build and would appreciate some insight from people who know more than I do.https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zKCv89Budget is $3500. I live in the US, not within driving distance of a Microcenter. Primarily for gaming (though I care much more about performance than ray tracing), video editing, and streaming. I’m aiming for 1440p.A couple key concerns of mine are the PSU and airflow. I want to make sure my PC will never draw more power than mu PSU can supply, but I think I’ve gone overboard with the one I’ve chosen. I’m also much more comfortable with air cooling than liquid cooling - I’ve never used a liquid cooler before and am concerned about maintainence costs, which is why I’ve elected to go with air cooling, but I’m worried about the fans I’ve selected being either poor value or ineffective for the components I’ve selected.I’d also like to ask for advice on choosing a case. Looks are secondary to airflow for me. I’m currently torn between the Meshify 2 and Torrent, but I’m open to recommendations, especially if they perform better.Thank you, sorry for any stupidity

Is this CPU just technically ill-suited for more powerful GPUs? Or is there some kind of deal Nvidia has with Intel and laptop makers?

>>102993045I mean if you need anything more specific, I have Noctua NT-H1, SYY-whatever the fuck the number is and some TF9 (hate this one, it's a bitch to spread)All of these, including what came with my GPU, raise temps to the point where I'm getting between 72 and 74C (84/85C hotspot) and the GPU runs both fans at around 52-54% RPM. It's not terrible but still, I thought it could get better. With this I'm getting no more than 69/80C hotspot at 45% RPM and that's after only a few heat cycles.
