started learning python so i made this tray app to enable/disable the power conservation feature of my lenovo ideapad laptop
it's not perfect but i'm pretty proud of it and by my standards it's good enough
i'll probably see how i can add more features, i hope i can make it sort of like the vantage app on windows

>i don´t fool myself thinking this is real windows
I get that but I just can't fathom how one would use it on a machine they operate daily. It's so fucking ugly and it feels terrible, almost uncanny.

When I see this KDE Aero theme I always notice that the bottom right clock's font size is bigger than it's supposed to be and it's clearly not Segoe UI. Also the tray icons grind my autism. Like, if it was some kind of a sandboxed reverse-engineered desktop frankenstein for Linux, it'd be fine, but those "themes" are just criminal.

desu it would be cool to reverse-engineer the win7 desktop and apps but nobody really is going to put that much effort to do it, about the inconsistencies i don't pay to much attention to those details i just like to see my computer and say "yep this look similar enough" and use it i understand that this type of desktop is not for everyone, but is good enough for me

Your desktops and the music you've shared have been a major influence in my life, as silly as that sounds. This is no shitpost, you've been a shockingly major, yet small part of my life. Hi Anonymous, glad my influence has led you in hopefully fruitful directions. I often think about how different my life and sense of purpose and aesthetics would be if I hadn't found 4chan back in the day, which only happened because I took a random programming class and through that, met some friends who eventually introduced me to this site. Probably would've been better off, but I definitely would be missing out on a lot of beauty through the books, music, etc. that 4chan has introduced me to, so I'm grateful for that. It is scary to think how such seemingly insignificant events can cascade to have catastrophic impact on our lives over time; there was a philosopher who said we "die one thousand deaths a day" through the opportunites and chance events that don't come to fruition. Scary to think about. Regarding desktop aesthetics, I haven't seriously riced in years obviously, but the motivation behind my gray-and-black desktops was always to allow the media you're consuming to stand out and be put at the forefront of your screen; I think art, videos, webpages etc. look much better when the OS isn't clashing aesthetically with what you're viewing. Perhaps you feel the same if you've spent time copying my style. Anyways, if you're the Anonymous who always says hi when I come back after a while, thanks, I do appreciate the recognition and the occasional (You). Enjoy your alcohol; hopefully my drunkposts haven't encouraged any overindulging; nowadays I only drink a few times a month. Also, if you have any albums you'd like to share, I'd love to hear them.

Still no real change. For some reason, Krunner takes a noticeable delay to launch and that (among launcher args for Chrome and this Firefox profile) is a big reason why i still can't bail out of desktop icons. Well Plasma is already a baby duck experience to begin with.
Anyways, any of you have built an Appimage before? How much of a pain in the ass is it? I wanna package some super niche Audacious Fork with yt-dlp support called Fauxdacious but Fedora doesn't have the dependencies needed (or well it HAS them but the software is asking for the macros with a different name).

Linux Mint Cinnamon is the best DE because they recognize the uselessness of a top bar.
Microsoft obviously sucks and you shouldn't use Windows, but like it or not, they created the best, most intuitive "environment" 30 years ago
It literally just works. and if you use window buttons it makes no sense to have something in the upper right of a full screen program than an exit button.
If you have a top bar, you drag your mouse to upper right.. guess what faggot, a clock/calendar
makes no sense.
put it on bottom right
you wanna close a window, drag mouse top right and click the X

>>
>>103069688
"docks" use way more screen real estate
having fucking 10 plus icons of programs on the bottom of your screen is retarded
winchads press the windows key, type 3 letters and press enter and open what program they need
why the fuck would you want constant icons on your screen of programs you aren't using

I like classics mostly, so I'm very slowly going through some of those that I haven't read before. Top of my current to-read list: The Moon Pool, A Voyage to Arcturus. I have a hardcover of the Divine Comedy and The Idiot coming next month that I'll be digging into over the winter.

hey y'all

not even a month has passed after switching to i3
and I'm still not interested in returning to cinnamon.
but perhaps this month I'll upgrade to the next base mint. maaaaaybe wayland/sway/hyprland too... I'm not in need since I've been able to game just fine no worries.

>learning bash
yeah I've never bothered reading about it before, only scavenged answers and tidbits in stack overflow and the manpages just to glue things together.
figured I'd start grounding what I already know from the last few years.
>>
>>103083279
also, enjoy a quick blog post about stuff that I learned recently
>fuck GUI, taskwarrior is THE program for efficiently managing a global to-do list. or several lists. whatever.
>writing old regular expressions nowadays on sed is so fucking stupid. luckily I have GNU sed with an '-E' option. which I realized only after messing around for two hours without knowing about it.

it's an app called charmap that came preinstalled in mint
the apt package for it is called gucharmap

Do you guy read a lot of books on a laptop screen or monitor? Does that get annoying?
>>
>>103086280
I read a lot at my computer. It's not ideal but I need to for work. I have an ereader for novels and a larger one for papers. The larger ereader rarley gets used these desu as the extra steps of loading stuff on to it just wasn't worth the benefit. It's much easier to be at my computer so I can pump notes into org-roam while I read.
I tend to turn my monitor to portrait when I've got a lot of reading to chew through which makes life a little easier.
