also, in what scenario do the 1096 x 2560 natives run in 1644 x 3840?

The "Popular reviewers" will not give you an actual honest and critical view about anything. Anyone who has more than 2 braincells knows this

Here's a good example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRDjWN6iPJI [Embed]

The iPhone 16 pro has a huge issue with "Blue spots" in it's nightmode photos and not a SINGLE ONE of these "Big reviewers" mentioned this, Not that stupid fucking nigger, not MrWhosetheFaggot NOBODY

How would being blacklisted affect them? Just buy the products you are supposed to be reviewing and sell them to one of your viewers after you are done

Losing access to pre-release, early access, review samples etc would definitely hurt their 'relevancy'. It's clear that anything Apple releases gets major views, so why would they risk losing that? Let's not kid ourselves, it's all about making content for the algorithm and generating revenue, none of them give a damn about integrity. They need the exposure far more than a 3 trillion dollar company does.

No one's kidding anyone, this is a well known fact, it's been this way since people started becoming full time YouTubers rather than "i (random person) bought this phone let me do a review of it".
>Losing access to pre-release, early access, review samples etc would definitely hurt their 'relevancy'.
True. Is apple tyrannical enough though to blacklist someone just for pointing out grave and obvious defects?

Yes, and ironically, that’s exactly what happened to Jon Rettinger (one of the OG tech youtubers). He received a defective unit, reached out to Apple’s tech support, and, after being ignored, posted a negative review only to later be blacklisted by Apple PR without any communication. Apple isn’t interested in genuine product testing or constructive feedback, they only care about reviewers who boost their marketing and reinforce a positive brand perception.

Looking at getting a new phone what do you guys think? Prices are after trade-in of my phone and the early black friday deals Samsung and Google are running right now.

>S24 FE 128gb for $360/ S24 FE 256 for $410
>Pixel 9 128gb for $480/ Pixel 9 256 for $570
What's the strat here? I'm thinking $410 for the S24 FE might be the deal to go for
>>
>>103133781
The FE looks like a good deal but which phone do you have right now?
>>
>>103127873
Yeah, I've decided to get myself a Pixel device and go for GrapheneOS instead. Reviving my old Samsung S8 was neat, but it won't be very useful. Maybe I'll turn it into a server or something.

Now to figure out which Pixel phone to get...
>>
>>103133904
Right now I have a S21 fan edition. Some other anon was asking around for phones in the last thread with this same phone and I took a look at the S24 FE somoene reccd him and saw that deal. Seems pretty decent to me
>>
>>103133781
The SoC or "processor" is better on the Samsung. If you like to tinker and run custom ROMs the Pixel is a better bet, and Google's stock OS has a lot of useful features too. I don't like Samsung OneUI (Android 15 delayed indefinitely) so I'd probably go Pixel but that's just me.
>>
>>103133993
You're not playing games and shit on a Pixel, no matter the specs. Get the cheapest Pixel 7th gen. There's still at least 2 years left of GrapheneOS support on those.
>>
>>103134066
I play games on my phone so maybe this anon >>103134073 saying its ass for gaming might mean the samsung would be better in this case for me
>>
>>103133998
in that case yeah, if you liked your 21FE the 24FE will be better in every way
>>
>>103134073
One more OS upgrade (possibly two if rumours of two quick Android version updates next year are true) and then two years of security patches. Graphene will support it as long as Google does security patches, but you obviously won't get OS upgrades which might include features you want.

Worth noting that the Pixel 7 is THE device to run /e/OS on, but they are on Android 13. It's not a big deal to be behind on the version if you have security patches.

Also I have a Pixel 7 that I'm thinking of selling. How many loonies should I list it for? Canadian dollars. It's in good condition but has microscratches and one larger scratch on the bottom right but you don't see them when the screen is on. Lemongrass colour, 128GB storage.
>>
After 5 years of a Xiaomi 9C, I'm upgrading to a Google Pixel 8 Pro. Wish me luck, bros.

The other anons are right, avoid bargain bin blowers, especially Samsung. Old flagships are a better bet, but may lose support like OS updates and security patches after a certain vintage. You can debate whether it is important but it is a priority for me.

>>103137204
What are you doing when it heats up? Sounds like you didn't learn your lesson from getting burned. The larger model SHOULD have better thermals due to having more area to spread the heat.

If you can, wait a few months for S25 with the 8 Elite. It should be much more efficient and powerful due to using the same new fab process as Apple did for the latest iPhones.
>>
>>103127966
Anyone? My mind is still screaming to consoom. There is not much wrong with my current Fold (except for the shitty inner screen... and the pull-down tiles being too fucking big for the outer screen... and it not folding to a perfect 180° contributing even more to the lack of any sort of anti-glare... and around 2-3 more things I can't pull out of my tongue for now)
Crunching the numbers again, I could get it for ~$550 accounting for taxes an shit.
>>
>>103137317
But the A53 isn't bargain bin, right?
>>
>>103137346
I was also looking into a fold phone, but my only gripe with the original pixel fold is that idk if it can upgrade to android 15. considering it only has the Tensor G2 I dont do much either than text, make calls, play one gacha game, tft, and tiktok memes
>>
>>103137358
It's not bottom of the barrel but is decidedly midrange. Might be good enough for you, personally if I'm going Android I want a Pixel so I can fuck around with the software, install GrapheneOS etc. But I got an iPhone so I don't have to worry about it. I can barely customize my Home Screen.

>>
>>103137611
After a certain amount of degradation, the battery is unable to deliver the electricity to power the SoC or processor at its highest processing speed. This results in the phone seemingly rebooting, it's actually more of a shutdown and reboot as the battery fails to deliver the necessary power.

1. You can't understand is your phone charging or not.
2. Slow charging overall. Especially true comparing to OnePlus with 120w.
> USB 2.0, UFS3.1
It's 2024. Anyway
This would be a problem if it were possible to get normal access to the phone. In real world slow android protocol would eat all the speed.

Not really comparable but since you value FOSS and aren't picky with performance considering youre using a 2016 phone, a Pixel would probably be your best bet. Just tell him to get you an 8a, if you're a burger you can find it for around $400 which is overpriced given the specs but your boyfriend will appreciate the better camera and it'll have long support.

Commenting on the state of the industry, I think phone manufacturers need to cut the shit. Put out at most 2 models per year. Don't tier them. Focus on making them the best products possible. One mid-range that is flagship quality, and then one prestige class with as much swanky shit as can be feasibly fit in a phone given the tech. Maybe 2 extra slots for adventurism and variant preference models like stylus phones. You don't need 20 different phones released every year at 10 different tiers. That's bad for business. Because people have to break out a flow chart to navigate your bullshit.

Why is it so expensive? I can buy 2 for that money in Russia (the leader in corruption according to all institutions™).
The 24 Ultra is indeed better, but not for the extra $1000.

You didn't answer the question, in Russia it's even worse. The ruble has depreciated by about 3.5 times in 10 years, not the 3% beause of which you're running and screaming in horror.
Well, for example, the dollar exchange rate has fallen since summer from 80 to 95 rubles, all electronic has become 10-20% more expensive.

It's still not clear why everything is twice as expensive for you.
>>
>>103140841
>What do you look for in a phone?
Design, build quality, UI.
I'm pretty sure I don't want an iPhone anymore. There are things about iOS that I just can't stick, like the lack of app drawer, the notifications, and the slow animation speeds.
I'm currently using a regular S24, snapdragon model. I've put an anti-reflective screen protector on it. It's nice, pocketable, and I have my tablet for multimedia, so I don't know I can't looking out for the next phone...

>>
>>103142680
No, the high end Samsungs do alright.
But I dont think you are looking to defer the cost of a phone you are using. I think you are looking to get into the business of selling phones. IF that is the case, you are asking such a basic question I dont think you will make money on selling phones. I think you will lose money.
Dont get into the phone selling business.

>I can sell fast and not loose much money.
Yeah, you are looking to get into the phone sales business. And thats not for you. Theres a LOT about business you have to learn and I dont think you've got much of a chance right now. If you really wanna do it, wanna make that your career, go ahead. But asking incredibly basic questions on 4chan will NOT lead you to success in business. IF any of these guys actually know what they are doing, they sure as shit won't give you free advice.
>>
>>103142778
Sony doesn't do AI processing to the degree that Apple and Samsung and Google do. They use a similar if not same sensors as the other guys, but they give you more or less what the sensor sees without much processing. If you like to manually retouch your photos this may be useful, but hurts for simple point and shoot.

You may be able to get a Gcam build for your device which might be better in terms of processing.

>>
>>103143513
Pixel OS is better, so is iOS. Chaebols aren't good at software. They just throw every stupid feature they can think of in, with even more behind the stupidly named Good Lock application. Some of these features are indeed useful, but the lack of direction leads to way too many toggles. The worst part is they don't even bother to include useful features that Apple and Google have, like adaptive charging. You can fuck around with routines to achieve something similar, but you shouldn't have to. Just keep the damn phone at 80% and time it to be full when the alarm is going off if charging overnight. It isn't a hard concept.
>>
>>103144225

>>103144271
I don't get the 80% thing. Batteries will always degrade over time, that's just how they work. So why deprive yourself of 20% and live with a handicap for years only for some distant future later when the phone will still naturally wear out anyway (or be ready for an upgrade). Seems very silly to sacrifice daily convenience for some ‘potential’ gain I will barely benefit from than if I had used it daily, or am I misunderstanding something.

>>

>>
>>103144788
It's just overnight. It's not good for the battery to sit at 100% for hours, so Adaptive Charging or whatever you want to call it keeps the battery at around 80% and only pushes it to 100% so it reaches that shortly before your alarm goes off. Best of both worlds.

I agree hard capping the battery to 80% semi permanently is silly, you end up with less usable battery. This isn't the case with Adaptive Charging it still lets you use 100% of your battery.
>>
>>103140943
You said build quality but it sounds lke you're looking for a new toy to consoom is your problem. Get a flip or foldable.
>>
>>103145299
oh I see. I did not know about that and it does seem pretty useful for now. Although if I had to guess, with how fast some phones charge these days, I don't even think charging overnight will be a thing in the near future anymore. If I had to guess, after waking up, people plug it in for a bit or charge it on their ride, and it’ll be fully charged for the day.
>>
>>103145597
Yeah if you have a OnePlus or Oppo phone with 120W charging or whatever they have, you can probably get away with just charging when needed. I just have a 20W charger and like not having to worry about charge over the course of the day.

Adaptive charging is useful to prevent battery degradation. It's not good to sit at 100% all night. I don't see how it's ironic to say Samsung doesn't have this feature when they don't, at least they didn't two months ago.

>oh but I can limit my battery to 80% all the time
Not the same thing. Enjoy your Good Lock.
>>
>>103148725
The irony isn't found in Samsung not getting adaptive charging, it's that useful features are pretty much absent in Apple over Android devices. Even a simple fucking calculator isn't there.
Apple prioritizes gimmicks and shit over actual useful and functional features that makes a phone a portable computer.

Gooks just don't know how to make lenses, they have a total of one company that can produce decent glass for actual cameras, smartphones get even worse stuff.
>>
>>103154732
I have the same problem.
Returning my S24Ultra as we speak.
How can people stand Samsung software is beyond me.
>>
>>103155742
mfw I use xiaomi chink software and I simply accept all flaws and crap if it works in the basic functionality good enough
don't care about updates
don't care about anything
as long as the apps work for the time I'm gonna use it and whatever
cheapmaxx

Is there any disadvantage on going for a 128gb phone with micro sd card slot vs the 256gb? I can get a 128gb card for just $10 while the 256gb phone costs $60 more.
>>
>>103156049
internal memory will be 10x faster and 10x more stable then a shitty SD card
>>
>>103156049
Slow storage vs fast storage. You can't install games and apps on SD cards because they are so slow, but for media like movies and music they are usually fine if you get a decent card.
>>
>>103156072

I used keep a Kiwix ZIM file of wikipedia on a cheap micro SD card, on my Motorola G. Upgraded to a Motorola Edge with internal-only memory, never managed to get the .ZIM file recognized by Kiwix on the internal memory.

I would prefer my next phone to have a slot for an external micro SD, although there's fewer and fewer phone that have it now.
>>
>>103156237
back when I was running a Xiamoi Redmi Note 3 Pro I had an sd card in it
the thing would constantly get corrupted and would lag the entire phone probably due to the shitty storage controller
always buy as much internal storage as you can if you plan on keeping the phone long term IMO
>>
Anything better than the Poco X6 (216€) in the 200-300€ price range? Only must is a headphone jack.
>>
>>103156278
this was my experience over a decade ago
currently running a 512gb samsung microsd in a xiaomi chinker, running OK so far
that was horrendous back in the day though
wondered if microsd was even usable, understand why it was removed for a while

What is the "coldest" phone out there, don't want mine to explode on the heat
>>
>all the potential for AI shit
>AI is either limited to auto-photoshop or "redirect question to online ChatGPT database where the actual phone does nothing, but we're marketing it as a feature of the phone"
>ChatGPT is functionally useless for anything current and relies on the models being periodically updated
The future is so bright I'm seeing in photonegative.

>Samsung skipped shipping a phone in the US just because they didn't want it being called the Galaxy ASS

Lmao, go kys Samsung/Apple shill.

Yours has compromises as well, but at double the price.

>can't remember unlock pattern
>fuck fuck fuck panic
>spend hours trying to remember, try a bunch combinations. Nothing works
>throw the towel and reset phone to the factory settings and assign a new unlock pattern
>after a few hours grab the phone and unconsciously enter the old pattern
fuck my life, I am becoming a boomer

Pixel 9 256GB on sale on Amazon and Best Buy for $550. Looks to be their BF deal
>>
>>103155618
and why are you surprised about this? It's a 7 year old phone, it came out the same year when the iphone 8 came out
>>
>>103157551
how?
>>
>>103157726
I'm not really surprised about it, just the process of modernizing to a current gen phone can be a little overwhelming cause I didn't care about upgrading for 7 years.

>Bill Maher takes the stage
>"New rule: if it doesn't have a telephoto lens, I'm just not gonna buy it haha"

>>103157454
You can use AMOLED. I think you have read too many horror stories about burn in or so-called "PWM" bullshit. But by all means get the iPhone SE (2022) as with a battery replacement should last you until 2029 if Apple continues to update at their current pace. You won't get all the new features, but you'll be up to date.

>>103157539
Phone finder is good. Other links may need to be removed due to age, like recommended chinkphones.

>>103157826
Hopefully you actually feel and appreciate the upgrade. Things change a little tiny bit every year but it adds up.

>>103157342
Compromises? Where we're going we don't need compromises.

is the pixel 8 pro better than the 9 regular? I know the major difference is the battery but not sure how much of a difference the Tensor 3 is from the 4

>>103156625
Just buy a Motorola G54 because it's an objectively perfect smartphone!
>>
>>103158031
It's basically the same garbage from Google in terms of Tensor G3 -> G4. The main difference is the size, "Pro" used to mean 6.7" display and telephoto lens (super useful) until the 9. So it will be larger and better for taking pictures from far away. The 8 Pro is basically the "Pro Max" or "Ultra" of its generation, or "Pro XL" in Googlespeak.

If you care about photography a fair bit and want a device that isn't fuckhueg, the 9 Pro is a good choice if you're set on Pixel, it's more expensive obviously.
>>
>>103158134
so I should go with the 8 pro? or does the better battery life make little to no difference since its an older chip?
>>
>>103158540
It's physically larger with a larger battery, so the 8 Pro has an advantage, but with a bigger pixel count screen and older chip... battery life is said to be better on the 9 on GSMarena.

They're just very different phones, one is 6.3" vs 6.7", the 8 Pro has a telephoto lens, the 9 has a brighter screen but no LTPO (so swaps between 60 and 120 not from 1-120 dynamically, unlike the 8 Pro with its dimmer screen).

Here are all the differences between the two: https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=13219&idPhone2=12545
