Why didn't this stick, along with Blackberry and others? Surely it's better than touchscreens.

for me, it's Symbian OS.
>>
Nah, I did.
The iPhone was already out though, so it was compared to that and other featurephones.
The treo & treo pro had come out a year earlier and they were still late to market and people STILL complained they were on windows mobile.
There was interesting stuff there, Palm's modernisation, RIM's attempts to keep up. HTC was trying to make Windows Mobile look cool too. Nokia had stuff like the 5800 in the pipeline but it was all too little too late.

The same reason everything else also failed to catch on.

Picrel was great at the time. Last phone I ever actively used for web browsing, portrait mode was a mistake.

I remember wanting one of those when it came out back in 2009. The UI was really nice and the apps looked gorgeous. The notification system and multitasking was really tremendous (this was before iOS got a notification center and multitasking support). I thought the Pre could've been a really good competitor to the iPhone. Between this and daily driving the Windows 7 betas, that year makes me miss being 17.

no, I constantly tried to find one that didn't suck all through 2008 to 2011 and they all sucked. The screens are no good for reading and the physical keyboard is a gimmick at best, simply another moving part for no reason. Ergonomically, a touchscreen keyboard works fine for a phone. The important thing for most people is being able to see what they're reading, using the device as a portable web browser or text reader. These days, we can use fucking bluetooth keyboards if we want.
this nostalgia is actual retardation

I had to configure those Palm Prefor a few users, and that was the worst phyisical keyboard I have seen.

At that point in time, the best pre-iPhone option was the HTC TyTN, IMHO

The curse of Canadian standard management. Apple's move to transform the market by owning the customer relationship was the perfect gut shot for a Canadian firm to be institutionally incapable of recovering from.

Circuit City got rid of all of their talent in a bid to lower costs, best buy started predatory lending and screwing little old ladies out of their hard earned money with geek squad.
Grandma just wanted to play some farmville, she didnt need a $3000 gaming PC to do it.
>>
>>103163140
Did circuit City sell phones? Isn't that a big part of best buy's profit? Maybe they should have gotten in bed with big mobile. Also how is radio shack doing
>>
>>103163140
Sorry, a $1600 gaming pc with a $1400 markup and another $200 in additional fees before taxes.
>>
Millennials nostalgiafagging all over the Internet has gotten old

Radio shack is online only, they at least had some niche things they were good for, but radio shack overextended and their costs were way too damn high for a little outlet store with limited sales. My friend worked for Radio Shack before they went under and they went from a tech store to an aggressive mobile phone sales outfit right before they went under.
