As most of you have figured out by now, we are under DDoS attack and have been for the past week or so. We've been trying to avoid calling it out, as often that empowers the attackers with the limelight.

We don't know who it is or why. They seem to be targeting multiple trackers but are going harder against some trackers more than others.

The scale and type makes it difficult to mitigate. Those that can access the site have better peering than most of the attacking machines and can get through. We’ve taken some measures to try to make the site somewhat usable, and we have some options to try to mitigate the attack further.

We will provide updates to this issue going forward, and let you know if there is anything further to note.

This post is misleading in a way. Simply saying I resigned leaves a void like I just dipped. That’s not the case. I am still here for BLU. I am still here for the torrent realm. I am still here developing UNIT3D. I will continue to help as I always have.

I’m not good at this and will admit that off the rip. So bear with me. I know I have a lot of haters so it is what it is but this is my attempt to let everyone know the story.

As most know I started UNIT3D from scratch in 2016 after being a dev for xbtit and u232 for many years under a different name and other trackers. I grew tired of hard to manage and simply bad code. In 2017 BLU was born as the first UNIT3D based tracker. I have dedicated the last 8 years to BLU and UNIT3D. They mean a ton to me and the community has grown tremendously. I helped as many other failing torrent communities that needed help with code and porting so they could survive.

BLU was self run for the first 4 years of its life in which we then started to accept donations. We never begged with weekly pms, news, etc. The community was strong and we chugged along fine.

We have gone through server issues in past and recovered just fine. These things happen and with daily backups it’s not an issue which we were doing. Locally and remote to other staff. One staff resigned. Then the other. This was in 2024.

BLU was booming. Peer growth, user growth, content growth and all around community growth was exceptional. Yes we recently had a horror month event. Saying we brought in thousands and thousands from it is just false though. I won’t debate it in a public manner. The community was booming and we brought back the upload bot server.

I will continue to develop UNIT3D that BLU and dozens and dozens of other trackers rely on. Anyone that was invited to BLU if they bring it back will be reinstated. I am already working on building list to resend invites for staff to use. Donor statues will be reapplied. Will it happen overnight. No. But BLUs community is one of the strongest so please don’t hate. Bear with us. For those that feel you were robbed. That’s simply not true and it’s really sad to hear that. Even if the backup MusicalMind listed above is the one that gets restored there shouldn't be an issue with people that joined after said date.
Emails are a different log and those users should be able to be sent again and in the event some are missed it would be quite easy for support to show the email and be re-invited and verify with the original inviter that it was indeed sent or official recruitment ones could be handled just by referencing those PMs.

I could make up excuses for why this happened/blame others, but in the end there is no valid reason to why the backups that should have been taken were not. In the event of the return the backup method will not be the same and will be something far better/faster.

In the end BLU coming back looks more likely that it will be based on the community for what they think/want. In the end the unfiltered opinions of users is likely to be needed, this thread is not for that, if there is one made on HDB it will be made exactly for that and clarified that we are asking for such feedback even if it reads rude.

Now one thing I will add, any update from BLU staff here or elsewhere is much appreciated that people don't share it to reddit, private is in the name after all. You won't get faster updates asking there than on proper sites, if anything all you do is make your thoughts ignored that are posted there.

Most likely their domain is bought through a proxy service like Njalla, and these are notorious for fucking up renewals.
If they're lucky, they can get the domain before it's dropped. But everything has to go through Njalla so there are some big delays for communication (RED->Njalla->Gandi).
Also, Sunde and his crew doesn't sweat over shit like this, so there's no extended support windows. You get a reply when you get one.

If they're not so lucky, the domain is dropped, and some shark will buy it and put it up for sale, since it has a lot of backlinks.
In that case it's gone, and they will just buy a new domain and use that instead. You gotta remember that their tracker URL (flacsfor.me) is unaffected by this.

No, a domain is nothing but a redirect to an IP address, that's easier for humans to remember.
