I hate how Wayland doesn't work well with Proton. It also makes the entire system feel sluggish and like there is this input latency. Like I'll click something and it takes 7-10 business days to come up. 32gb of ram core i7 14700 Radeon 7900gre
Meanwhile on a xorg desktop like xfce, budgie or cinnamon, everything just works flawlessly. Is there a fix for Wayland? I really want to use gnome or kde plasma, but Wayland makes it hard to enjoy using Linux these days.
>>
>>103174798
Use xorg for another 5 years until wayland is ready, you dont actually need wayland

>>
>>103175932
i just apt installed wmaker and ran it from the SLiM greeter since it makes a wmaker.desktop file
the only troubleshooting i had to do to use it better was
cp /usr/share/WindowMaker/plmenu ~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker

to be able to edit the submenu
also had to compile some dockapps from source since not all of them worked very well from the devuan repositories

Maybe it's just the screenshot but the text on your bar is pretty straining on the eye, needs some more contrast. Also not sure what you use to theme firefox but I'd try combining the title bar with the tab bar. Other than those uhhh I got nothing, looks lovely.

HAHAHA I think about this image a lot. Crazy how desktop threads almost go through eras of style. Notice how they all have anime girls on plain colored backgrounds. They all only have a couple windows open because it was cool to be minimal. Having terminals with text on them made you look like a hacker and putting anime on your desktop meant your were a certified otaku. It still makes me chuckle that crunchbang was a thing.
>>
>>103179283
The shaded window decorations do not match with the square theming and panel, the flat icons look too modern to go with the rest, at least the colors are nice, also like the fonts, what font are you using on firefox?

>Maybe it's just the screenshot but the text on your bar is pretty straining on the eye, needs some more contrast.
yeah, i like the colour being the same as my folders. i can read it fine. it would be nicer if it was darker, but it's not really an issue.
>Also not sure what you use to theme firefox but I'd try combining the title bar with the tab bar.
if i was better at css, i would do this. i theme firefox by literally just editing the userChrome.css, but i don't actually know css.
>Other than those uhhh I got nothing, looks lovely.
thank you a tonne! and thank you even more for trying to come up with feeback. greatly appreciated!

>The shaded window decorations do not match with the square theming and panel
i don't fully understand what you mean, sorry.
>the flat icons look too modern to go with the rest
so i need to find an icon pack with more third-dimensional icons? i guess i'll take a look. hopefully in the plasma icon store thing, but that piece of software never has anything good imo.

worse, anon, much worse
you know on a production line how there's always a few people assembling the thing we want to sell? like putting sausages into packages and stuff like that? that's not what I'm doing
basically I come right before that. I pour heavy buckets of cabbage into a tank with holes so the juice can drip out, then lift the tank (thankfully that's just pressing a button, not doing that with raw strength kek). have to do that every 5 minutes and those buckets weigh like 20 kilos (that's around 45 pounds I think in burger units), I have to pour 4 buckets each time. would be fine if it was just that, but I also have to refill the production line with boxes of sausages and shit all the time, and have to bring in the pallets with ingredients myself as well. oh also the buckets I have to lift don't have padded handles so it fucks up my hands too and when I asked if I could wear gloves for a bit of padding they politely told me to go fuck myself
last but not least, we also don't have a cleaning crew so I also have to clean with everyone else at the end (of course, they don't give us enough time for that so we half-ass it most of the time)

There aren't many truly useful shortcuts. Most of the ones I use involve connecting to a VPN, locking and unlocking my front door, using a page summarizer, and so on. Nothing too crazy. The ones I've downloaded online include Unpaywall, Stremio to VLC, Link Cleaner, and of course SW-DLT, which, in my opinion, is the most useful. Most of these aren't particularly useful, but if you really learn how to create them and become good at it, you could make some truly useful shortcuts. Shortcuts are pretty powerful, but you are better off making your own most of the time.

As long as i dont touch those icons, they never really move anywhere, i dont exactly know what you mean by that, are you clicking them and accidentally moving them? i prefer moving with alttab
>>
>>103193213
I mean I had to deliberately move the icons to avoid a gap between them after un-minimizing or closing one. I usually see desktops with the icons all together like in the first screenshot, not with gaps like in the second, so I'm wondering if there's a way to keep the icons together automatically and I just missed it.

Development has really been picking up recently. I want to write a guide for ricing Trinity but for that I need a new laptop so I can go through the install process from scratch and take notes. But I'm NEETing (fastman style) atm so that might not happen any time soon.

I have Chrome for when I absolutely need to use modern websites which is actually pretty rare, but it's a good way to separate personal and productive browsing.

it's usually faster than other inits (even if only marginally compared to something like runit) and its syntax is similar to systemd's so you don't get lost as easily as if you were using something like S6 which is much more complicated
only thing I don't really like on dinit is that you have to install another package/service to run services as a user rather than root (which you have to for pipewire/wireplumber), but it's not that big of a deal

>>
>>103226592
yeah, it's not that big of a deal like I said. the most annoying thing was doing some research on how to do it and in the end it's pretty simple
>sudo pacman -S turnstile turnstile-dinit

>sudo reboot
>dinitctl enable [service to run as user]
pretty easy
>might try running a dinit system on one of my laptops to experiment
