I have an s23plus, I feel like my phone gets very hot when consuming media and some light gaming here and there.
Hotter than it should.

Is the s24 line up any better with heating?
Should I just move away from Samsung entirely?
>>
>>103180385
I just bought an A35 because I needed to have a functioning device, but I will say this. Glass backs on phones seems like a preposterously bad idea because glass is fundamentally an insulator. Phones already have an issue with heat dispersion. So by the time you can feel the heat on a phone that's shrouded in glass, the interior is probably cooking.
No idea if this is reflective of what actually happens. I personally despise this entire industry.

>>
>>103180385
I find Apple chips are more efficient and powerful but you may not like iOS. They can still get warm but you get more codec support since it's just a handful of iPhones each year with the same chips inside instead of hundred Android phones released.

The other option is Mediatek which is competitive with Qualcomm and Apple at the high end.
>>
>>103180385
Meanwhile, I just got an s23+. I also bought a cooler that attaches to the back of the phone and it'll arrive in a few days. Unless you really want to upgrade, I'd say try a cooler out.
>>
Ok I might be crazy. talk me into buying this One Plus 12 (12gb ram and 256 gbs) that is selling on the one plus app for $550($250 off).

I mean currently my daily is a One Plus 7 that is running on android 11. It is worth the upgrade and its not even worth it to even upgrade it to Lineage OS etc. I already am 4 android os behind and I already seeing some software slowups, some apps wont even load because how far behind. At this point might as well just tear the bandaid off. I just hate retiring such a workhorse device.

for schizo concerns ancient phones like the one plus 7 have the popup ones you can just keep down but im not sure any company would make those today. for aesthetic concerns companies are working on putting cameras behind screens but the quality is currently bad from what i heard and it might take 5-10 years for good ones

I have been using this Anker charger for my Pixel 7, and it seemed to work alright.
I used it to charge my old Moto G and the battery started bloating. I had left the Moto G plugged in for a week.

Is this a fault of the Moto G, or of the charger, or of leaving it plugged in for a week? I haven't used it to charge my Pixel 7 since.

Specifically, which is the better option? A Samsung Galaxy A35 for $300, or a Pixel 7 Pro for $400?
>>
OnePlus 12 is the best phone I've owned in years. Only downsides so far are the fucking curved screen and no headphone jack.

>>103183482
>>103183972
Google refuses to use Qualcomm radio chips for some reason so the Pixels lose signal in anything thicker than a cardboard box. Idk why it's never brought up in discussions.
>>
>>103184079
Yeah. Reading up on the Pixel 7 Pro, while it definitely has some specs on it, it apparently has build quality and overheating issues. I think I might veer towards the A35. Reading what you typed about how Pixel devices may have issues doing basic things a phone is expected to do sort of adds on to the pile. Maybe next year I'll scope out a marked down 8 Pro to see if they've improved at all. It's a real shame because that extra $100 moves from a midrange into a phone that would absolutely cow it. But I don't want to spend money on something that has a laundry list of known potential issues where I'm not exactly confident that Google, even with a new device, would have my back.
>>
>>103184256
I'll be going from an Android 7 basement tier device to an Android 14 device. I hope to see progress. If I end up with a phone that just pisses away the larger battery doing casual shit I'll probably be pissed. That older phone can last an entire week of getting periodically used for brief periods. The odd text, checking email, etc.
>>

What's the issue with the curved screen? Loss of detail when watching videos at fullscreen, or what?

It serves no practical purpose and just makes it a weak point in general. Even the pioneers of that tech/trend, samdung, have moved on and dropped curved displays on their phones. Now only the second rate chink phone makers still use them.

>>103184397
Fingers overlap the bezel and touch the screen. It's an annoyance. They're also super fucking expensive to fix compared to a traditional screen. Ended up buying a cheap case on AliExpress (which ironically has 100x the case options that every other retailer does for this model) just to raise the sides up. Got a neat Junji Ito case for mine for like $1 USD though. Pic related is the design but the cameras almost completely fill up her spiral and the case covers everything but the lens. Pretty seamless.

I want to switch back to Android from my iPhone 15 Pro Max. What should I get?

I like the size of the iPhone, generally while the device feels good I just cannot keep using iOS.
I am considering the Pixel 8 Pro (256GB/709€), Pixel 9 Pro XL(512GB/1299€), S24+(Exynos)(256GB/777€ | 512GB/889€) and S24 Ultra(512GB/1115€).

I am currently mostly deciding between the Pixel 8 Pro and the S24 Ultra. The Pixel has more customization with Graphene and all, but the S24 Ultra is the just works Android and has the best spec out of all of them.
Do I overlook something? I don't really play or anything.

>battery health nuked since October security patch
It's over. I am definitely noticing about ~10% less SoT compared to before. The battery specs say 3900 and now it's reporting ~3750 on accubattery, down from the ~3850 it was at for a long long time. At this rate I might need a new phone because of degrading battery rather than running out of android updates all the way in 2027.

>>
>>103186828
It is very difficult to explain this to people from Western countries.

The price of the phone includes a lot of things, for example, interest on a loan, advertising costs, deductions to telecom operators (in Western countries) and so on.

Since prices are stable in Western countries and you see only one single store selling phones at the price recommended by the manufacturer (MSRP lol), you do not know the real price of the phone, and you are not interested in the process of importing a phone from Dubai.
All discounts are given from the "advertising budget" in the price of the phone. You just don't have the opportunity to exclude this cost, because you live in the West and you don't have alternative ways to buy a phone.

In one of the previous threads, I remember how anon from Russia showed that his S24U costs twice as low as a comparing from anon from Australia. This is just about it.
In the USA, the difference between the "cheapest offer" and the American MSRP is very low, in Europe it is 50% or more.

I wasn't using it and I didn't think anything bad could happen. These modern chargers are supposed to communicate with the device plugged in to them and set an appropriate charging speed. I assumed it would stop charging when the devices battery was full, but I guess there was a residual current or something.

>>
>>103188194
It negotiates with the charger for the highest speed that both support. Unless it is a faulty charger, there will be no issues. It will charge at 20W probably.
>>
>>103187831
Feel you! I am for example not sure if I will be happy with Samsung, as they have non-removable bloat on it as well and OneUi while it is not S3 days it is still more bloated than stock (even tho they have a few nice things like DEX).

I think the correct way for me is the Pixel line, but hardware wise the Samsung's and Apple's are so much better or the Chinese ones are way less overpriced.

What did you dislike about the Sony? It has SD Card, 3.5mm jack, a great SoC and generally nice spec, long enough updates, it could be the whole package.

Oneplus phones look great except for two things:

1. OxygenOS looks like a iOS knock off. For Western audiences having knock offs is embarrassing. It looks gaudy and people don't want to be seen with it in public.

2. This is a problem with chinkphones in general (Xiaomi, Huwaei, although Xiaomi has improved this with their Mi 13, 14 and 15) but the ugly camera grouping. That large circle camera housing looks really bad. Go for something minimal like Samsung or refined like Apple. The current camera housing on the 12 but particularly the 13 screams chink. Looking at older OP phones like the 7 and 8. The phones looked really really good. As in you wouldn't be embarrassed to have on in public even if it isnt an Apple phone or a high end Samsung.

>>103194151
wouldnt they make more money by selling the maxed out models in the us? its a bummer that the 1tb versions arent here
>>
>>103194151
Explaining it further, several of the bigger carriers run a scheme where they only allow certain models of certain phones on their networks, and they will periodically disable the devices of paying customers or engage in bullshit attack strategies to force customers to upgrade to the devices they want them to buy. Because instead of just acting as carriers, they decide to use their position and the general unwillingness of their customer base to rock the boat to push mandates to maximize profits. Usually it's the big cable/telecom companies that are used to controlling territory absolutely and breaking the knees of anyone trying to muscle in on them. It's a mafia.
>>
>>103194180
Yeah, but then people would be less likely to upgrade to the next iteration, through them, at a loss.
>>
>>103194193
Look at this like a gacha. They want their whales to buy the iPhone #, then next year pay an extra $500 for the iPhone #+1, and then the next year to pay an extra $500 for the iPhone #+2. This is how they make money. So allowing people to just use a phone that offers nothing for a potential iteration to put forward but a 5% performance gain loses them money from whales.

Imagine making a product that's a culmination of millions of manhours of international exploitation, and then designing it to fail. A small African child's fingers bled so they could have access to that lithium. Both her parents have already died of various cancers. She's soon to follow, still clawing away at the walls of the pit through her tears. But don't worry. The culmination of that sacrifice will soon be in a landfill. A 512gb or 1Tb phone also does NOT have 512gb or 1Tb usable storage. The system OS already eats a part of it out of the box. Then you also need to provide at least 10% free storage (52gb, 100Gb respectively) for a smooth operation. Cattles love bwing herded to slaughterhouses.

I find it weird that nobody markets a USB-C flash drive in the form factor of a dust plug. I understand it would be limited in scope, but you're telling me they couldn't fit some memory in one of these?
>>
Though, side note, having a dust plug in the form factor where it actually has an aluminum plug, in my opinion, makes it worthless. I only see value if the plug portion is short compared to standard USB-C. Because otherwise you have a stake sticking out of the phone where, if it ends up eating an impact, you're at risk of breaking your charging port. Soft plugs make more sense.

>>
>>103194347
To some extent I think that's the case with all phone companies. Why have ultrasonic fingerprint sensors almost exclusively been used by samsung until recently? Why does no one use the big sensor that that one vivo phone used? Why do none of the big boys put effort into improving the "invisible" camera technology so they can get rid of the hole punch? Why are charging speeds so crippled with some brands? I'm guessing all of this is to hold off improvements so the next gen has one new thing they can brag about. They probably leaped with joy when the AI fad gave them a few years of leeway since they can just talk about that.

Does anyone here have experience with Blackview phones? I noticed that I probably don't use phones as much as normal people do, basically just for forced smartphone apps (i.e. authenticators), to "scan" paper documents (take photos of papers), no real gaming, professional use or even listening to music. However, my first proper smartphone had its screen slightly cracked for years. My second, more expensive smartphone (at least at the time, OnePlus 8T bought for 440 EUR in October 2022) got completely fucked once (cracked in half, unusable), which cost me 200 EUR to fix, then the back glass got cracked, cost me about 60 EUR to fix.

I'm looking at Blackview N6000 or Blackview N6000SE at prices 182E or 133E respectively. Guess the only big difference between that two is that SE has half the RAM (8 vs 4 GB) and half the storage (256 vs 128 GB), but that shouldn't be important for me. Supposedly, the battery lasts long, it's small (which is a plus/something I'm looking for, something that doesn't take much space in my pocket) and most importantly, the marketing states it can survive a 60m fall / being dropped with force from 5 meters. So hopefully I won't end up paying +260 EUR because of physical damage.

So, is it a good deal at that price?
>>
>>103191479
Bump?
>>
>>103197612
Oh and I guess the biggest difference is the "DokeOS, built on Android 13" operating system. I hear claims that DokeOS is garbage. True?

Mint Mobile currently has an offer where you can get a Pixel 9 w/ 128gb for $400 if you buy a year of Unlimited for $15/m. Flagship, 7 years of updates, and access to all the software that's coming down the pipe. Comes out to $579. I don't think that deal can be beat so long as they get good T-Mobile coverage.
>>
>>103197931
Though, being real, I wish it was at least the 256gb version. The 128gb version shouldn't even exist. Waste of the hardware to even have made them. Minor gripe, but just saying it.

don't buy xiaomeme/oneplus/oppo or whatever chinky brand

all the people saying these devices are great are either shills or thirdies

humility is a white virtue, browns totally lack it. what I mean by this is, because browns can only ever afford oneplus or xiaomi phones and can only dream of owning a high end current gen samshit or apple phone they constantly talk up their phones. its impossible for them to be honest with themselves and speak candidly about the phones they own. if they use it, it has to be the best. because they are very vain, superficial breed. extremely materialistic too as you can see when they come to the west and go all out on financing a bmw and buying gucci and other gaudy as fuck brands that white people gave up on a long time ago.

so they cant just be like well I have a xiaomeme phone, its ok but its got terrible battery drain, the build quality is crap but its what I can afford, no. these dumb fucks will go on tangents about how vain westerners are for buying apple or some quality premium brand. keep in mind these browns are lazy so they have all the time in the world to flash and tinker with their phones, and they can go weeks while their phone is in some chink service center since they live off remittances being sent from abroad

Samsung replaced my Flip 6 screen and hinge for free and gave me a free airtag I have no usecase for. Is my phone going to die again? I can't believe they honored the warranty, they never do. There must be something wrong.
>>
>>103201410
All it takes is a single grain of sand getting caught in one of those folding phones for it to catastrophically damage the screen.

My old one lasted 3 years until I was in a minor car crash that would have fucked up any phone. They are a stupid expensive gimick that I can't justify anyone owning but generally if the screens don't die in the first few months they will last until the non-replaceble battery does. They really aren't that fragile, the screens just have awful early failure rates and you need to play the lottery and hope you get a good one.

My main problem with the black bar is that certain apps, particularly games, retain the black bar whenever I take a screenshot. The only time I saw a hide notch/hole setting that resolved this was on my old Poco F1. This seems to be an Android only issue, though.

>>103197612
Blackview is still iffy on QC, last I heard. Oukitel, Unihertz, Ulefone are better.

>>103198806

Neither is good for playing mobile rhythm games. Wireless latency is still way too high.

You're most likely in a country like the US or South Korea where Samsung actually gives good service. It's crap service for most of the world.
>>
>>103201041
"premium" western brands like Apple and Samsung literally outsource a huge chunk of their manufacturing to the same Chinese factories., use the same processors, displays, and other components found in Western-marketed devices. the difference most notable difference is actually branding, marketing budgets, and a hefty markup for that shiny logo etc. so if that's your gripe you're way more vain and superficial. if you're so obsessed with purity in phone brands, enjoy living in the woods with a rotary phone, because almost every piece of modern tech, premium or budget, has a made in china sticker.

even with everything thrown against my argument, i still don't think Samsung actually does planned obsolescence, farbeit from how Apple and Google does it.
>the 5y+ of updates guarantee as of late is great but 4y- from years prior isn't the the end of the world like how Apple forces users to upgrade apps for each iOS or else risk them dropping from App Store, with no way to install their IPA's without jailbreaking the way APK's are. there is a fair amount of time when
targetSdk
finally falls below minSdk and even today, minSdk of a fair number of apps are Android 5.0. meanwhile, i do feel ASUS' 2y software support and lack of communication on the forums is a fair bit inadequate too.
>the software also doesn't feel sluggishly unusable after the final year of featured/non-security updates, given you bought flagships and cheapos or midrangers which are already sluggish on day one anyway.
>Google actually gimps hardware, as in >>103197513. while >>103197256 has a point, it feels like the kind of novel gimmick Samsung advertises is just bells and whistles on top of what you already have, which you can already survive on anyway, unlike Apple and Google which almost seems to demonize their own previous generations to push new-gen sales.
the majority of people here who've used their phones for 4y+ seem to use Samsung. hell, even that one guy who used S5 all this time have only just considered upgrading last thread.

Phone market is completely stagnant. Samsung sure aren't heroes, their phones are expensive for what they are and have very poor battery life. That's probably samsungs angle for making a new one.

Even up until 2019 we saw some innovations, full-screen notchless phones with in-screen finger print readers, ultrawide and zoom cameras... These things almost made it down to midrange phones only to be pulled away and now they are not even standard on high end phones. Truly this is a terrible time to get a phone, but we all "need" one.

>midrange Samsung
It will work if you are cool with low performance and bloat. Personally I won't buy Samsung ever again. Even a flagship with great hardware is hobbled by OneUI which is easily the worst skin except maybe some chinkphones.
>>
>>103202941
No he didn't. He thinks Gulag trying to keep costs low is a conspiracy to sell future devices. Tensor is garbage but not for this reason.
>>
>>103202899
yes, just make sure you get a model with 8GB of ram

Samsung midrangers usually were quite hit and miss but the A55 is good. It has features that are quite impressive to have for it's price like Gorilla Glass Victus and a metal Frame

Also, OneUI is currently the best android skin on the market right now, people like >>103203032 are clueless

Switched from z flip 5 to fold 6 yesterday. It folds out into a ludicrous fucking square and it's fucking weird and I love it. Already have had compliments on it in public. Cool shit.

>>
>>103203285
OneUI is garbage you samshill. I went from a Z Flip5 with a powerful processor to a Pixel 7 with much worse hardware and it felt way better. Just the stock OS was so much better, and you have the option of stuff like /e/OS or GrapheneOS.

I will never fall for the yearly "OneUI is actually le good now" meme ever again.
>>
>>103202363
Thermals were always going to be the roadblock that phones would run into. People expect performance above and beyond desktops and then get shocked when the devices run at desktop temperatures.
>>
>>103203951
And specifically, they want that performance in a form factor absent active cooling. They basically demand an abundance of energy absent heat and then blame companies for the realities of physics and thermodynamics.
>>
>>103202736
Covering the hinge means you will have a giant bump right in the middle of your phone when folded out. Looks awfully annoying
>>
>>103203914
>Just the stock OS was so much better,

Pixel OS is not stock android, it also has it's "Bloatware".
>>
>>103204003
The stock OS on Samsung phones is OneUI. The stock OS on Pixels is AOSP plus some Google stuff. Maybe you are thinking of vanilla Android not the stock OS on a particular phone.
>>
>>103203914
truth is that OneUI was always good.

I've got myself a brand new Pixel 8 in a box here and I'd like to install GrapheneOS on it. I'm in Europe and there's no carrier attached to it. Will I still need to go inside settings to enable "OEM Unlocking", or should I just assume I'm good to go?
