I've been using a 2016 HP pavilion for games and work since 2017 and it's finally starting to show it's age. What would be a good replacement? I've been to a few stores but the ones they have in display are all significantly smaller and less powerful than what I have now.

>and it's finally starting to show it's age
In what regards?
>>
a laptop from 2016 is easily sufficient even today for everything except gaming as usual. for every other task your laptop should be knocking it out of the park
>>
>>103206933
do not consoom

if you want to game, just buy a tower for it, much more bang for your buck

and after that just keep using your laptop as-is, perhaps with a battery replacement. a 2016 laptop is more than enough for office work.

Slower start ups, lower battery life with a startup warning about my battery, general wear in tear that's likely going to be a problem in the future, and it just seems slower (and louder) in general
>>
>>103207986
These look nice but that price tag is pretty nuts.

I get this in my 2017 hp laptop (can't remember the model, but it has an i5 8265u)

You should probably just buy another HP Pavilion. I bought one earlier this year after a lot of research and found it's one of the best bang-for-buck models there are, it was also the cheapest model with an OLED screen available, which is nice.
I'm guessing your "gaming" needs are probably similar to mine, I'm only interested in older stuff, not AAA titles from the last couple years and it runs them fine, maybe you need to sacrifice on graphics a bit on slightly newer titles but so be it.
Only annoying thing I find is the HP keyboard layout retarded with all the extra buttons to the right, but I think I'm finally used to it after six months. I assume you're already used to it as well so it makes sense to stick with it.
I would look for the cheapest deal you can find on a HP Pavilion and see if you can beat it with a laptop with better specs.

I guess I'll just hijack this thread:
I'm looking for a laptop that I need for nothing but basic browsing, movie watching, and one very specific piece of software that requires that I have a Windows laptop (instead of for example a chromebook). What's a good (and preferably cheap) laptop that's good for that, not a specs overkill, but also has good built quality? Crappy trackpads drive me insane. I'm not an audiophile and I know not to expect too much from laptops, but I'd also prefer speakers that don't clip constantly.

literally a midrange hp pavillion 14 inch or something

I'm happy with an M2 Macbook Air
It was my first ever Apple product. Bought it used.

If you don't specifically need Windows or a very powerful machine I don't think there's anything as good.

just get a desktop and a cheap chinkbook or something to complement it

Matte screens are a good thing. Also you should get a dock for ethernet and a separate screen plus mkb.

Having to have to return an asus zenbook s 14 with a 258V, I can tell you for sure you shouldn't buy that, not even a whole week it lasted me before shitting the bed permanently.

If you prefer a laptop with glossy screen, you should check into a mental asylum.

absolutely not, they ruin the quality and make the output slightly blurrier.

I don't want to carry extra shit around, beside, wiring everything through USB induces lag.

Glossy is fake quality and you are supposed to setup docks for places where you work longer than a hour.

I'm in a position where I'm moving around a lot for work but I still have plenty of free time to game so a tower or a bunch of peripherals would be pretty inconvenient

Hope you dont mind if I also use this thread instead of starting a new one

Looking to help my sister find a new laptop but I've honestly never shopped for lower end general use laptops before.

All I know is avoid shit like dell. I guess without much in terms of requirements all I should look for is one with at least a decent brand, an ssd and some good battery?
>>
>>103214960
Has HPs quality seriously declined since 2016? I've heard bad things but I honestly love my pavilion and wouldn't minded getting another

>>
>>103221539
That's the problem. I can't really recommend anything since everything is pozzed. If I had to choose, a panasonic lets note would've been perfect (4me) if the damn ram wasn't soldered.
>>
>>103221539
NTA but if you're looking for a basic work laptop I got a referb Dell that does the trick. It has some of the Dell Experience app crap that's easily removed after first boot but it's the only knock against it.
>>
ThinkPad E14 Gen 6
>>
>>103206933
You DO NOT need a new laptop, OPhee. You're just looking for a pretext to consooom. Save you hard earned money, bruv.
>>
>less powerful than what I have now
how?
anyway the LAST (only the newest) intel and amd cpus are decent for laptops energy efficient and decently fast
if you can splurge a macbook pro with a PRO or MAX cpu that is 'macbook pro m4 PRO' yes they have 2 pros in the name, the base cpu comes with a really shitty igpu
