Previous thread died before I could reply.

>tell me more about Google device reputation score
Unfortunately, this is a bit classified. I was hoping you guys would already understand how this works. I can't give details because it would ruin my work, but I can paint broad strokes.

>the reputation score of the device
Google uses a multifaceted approach, with multiple scores. Your device has a trust rating, your IP has one, and your account has one.

>IP trust rating
Only tangential to this conversation, but have you ever Googled from a VPN, only to be challenged by a CAPTCHA? Or tried to Google with TOR, and gotten service denied? There's your IP trust score.

>account trust rating
I 'trust' that (you) already understand how this works. This can decrease if you do bot-like behavior like spamming 1 star reviews on Google Maps.

>device trust rating
Device score is the most interesting, because the other two major types of trust scores listed above are publicly known and not unique to Google. There's a deep rabbit hole here, I mean Alice never came out...

>ok but I have an iPhone
Google does not have access to your firmware like they would on Android, but Apple does have access to the firmware, and they assign their own trust score. Anyway, this doesn't prevent your Apple device from having a Google trust score. Google ID's your idevice through apps like Gmail and Youtube.

>what about Android
On a Googled Android, Google controls your firmware. They can spy on your device, and identify it. In terms of technical implementation, this involves multiple different processes depending on what the device is trying to accomplish. For example, signing into a Google Account on Google Play Store to download an app. That interaction goes differently depending on your device trust level. Naturally, Googled Androids have the highest device score of any other device that interacts with Google, except maybe a ChromeOS laptop.

I'm watching your research. Very interesting. What blobs are you gonna run, and which ones not? And what is your ideal device, functionally? I'm personally debating whether I should share my research about how your Android device identifiers are used in relation to your trust score, and my theories on spoofing them. The thing is, the best solution is the one that the other anon suggested recently: just get a new device. Getting a new device is easier than spoofing hardware IDs, but the latter is a deeper rabbit hole.

I will try to stick with free software for as much as I possibly can, but I'm really new to this so I might misunderstand some stuff.
>And what is your ideal device, functionally?
Well, this one is gonna be more of a cyberdeck-style computer - and I want to make it as modular as I can. But some things I for sure wanna get going is NFC/RFID read/write, also some kind of RF capability beyond conventional civillian cellular/Wi-Fi networks(for that I have RTL-SDR). For battery life - I got six 18650 3500mAh batteries to parallel connect to a BMS, though that might be a bit overkill. But I didn't find a better option I can afford yet. All this is still in the process of figuring out, and I am open to suggestions.

Yes. You can "type" faster, directly from the mind.
With a two-way solution, you can reach the Cyberspace that William Gibson wrote about.
>>
>>103223283
That's like, creep score
>>
>>103225932
I already type way faster than I think anon. While a developed brain interface to an Android device could be somewhat useful in certain situations (as long as the battery holds), hackers would gain the ability to literally read your mind. Is this what you want? Not only that, but I still don't see how it's that much more useful than a phone, except now you have the 5G beam directly on your head at all times or something. If I don't want to type extremely fast, or order pizza with my mind, is there real practical benefit to getting my mind read? Can it open doors securely? Can it control a car? Can it control a robot dog?
>>
>>103225932
Also, the small form factor would mean that it's nothing but a cloud-connected piece of shit. It can be designed so it works with Bluetooth and requires no data, but will they? I doubt it
>>
>>103226805
>I already type way faster than I think anon. While a developed brain interface to an Android device could be somewhat useful in certain situations (as long as the battery holds),
I find the soft keys rather inconvenient, and are impossible (at least fo rme) to use if you cannot see the screen properly. Without the displayed keyboard you cn save a lot of screen real estate.
>hackers would gain the ability to literally read your mind.
Not sure that follows, though I am more concerned with various government demanding backdoors into brains - with a suitable exception for important people like themselves. Neuralink's competitors have also made noise about putting "information" into the brain, and by now most people will suspect irresistable ads.
>Is this what you want?
I want the convenience without the risks, and being on /cyb/ I am painfully aware what powers people in power would like to grab.
>Not only that, but I still don't see how it's that much more useful than a phone, except now you have the 5G beam directly on your head at all times or something.
We have that already, and 6G is coming up. Chip and phone manufacturers have loudly told us how important even more bandwidth is, but users have been less enthusiastic. Wireless to cortex might drive this.
>If I don't want to type extremely fast, or order pizza with my mind, is there real practical benefit to getting my mind read?
With read-only, you get faster and more correct typing, possibly with a secure enclave for extremely long passwords.
With read/write access to the cortex, we quickly enter a science fiction world of mixed blessings, and "ghost diving" will be real. There is also the Eudeamon scenario, and I am confident that both Amazon and Alphabet will make a bid on such contracts. Altered Carbon might also be in our future.
>Can it open doors securely? Can it control a car?
Yes and yes.
>Can it control a robot dog?
Yes, and with read/write you can use it for telepresence.
>>
>>103226841
>Also, the small form factor would mean that it's nothing but a cloud-connected piece of shit.
A likely scenario
>It can be designed so it works with Bluetooth and requires no data, but will they? I doubt it
They will have to make provisions for people in high security work. Would you trust an aircraft piloted by people with an unsecured brain?

Mind Burn is much better, a modern take on the genre that deals with an "utopic" society where neuralink is common place. And the world government have mandated a software update be implemented that gives people nausea if they ever think of injuring another human.
The cybercrimes task force deals with hunting down those that manage to commit cybercrimes despite the neuralink programming and usually go after hackers. I really enjoyed it.

I have a question:
What could potentially hide inside an embedded .mp4 file on a website?

Is it possible that you click play and it infects you somehow?
Or puts a tracker in your computer or calls back somewhere with information about your computer? Injects something into your browser's video player?
Would it be possible for your system to be compromised just because you clicked play on a video on a shady website, like one of those "free movies" ones?
Like is it possible that you watch a free movie on some website and get a knock on your door the next day about pirating? Not because your ISP saw it but because there was something in the embedded video?

If any of this is possible, would using Tor prevent any of this?
>>
>>103231735
Could there be a 0-day in the code that parses an .mp4 container file? Sure.
The attack surface of a modern browser is very large, due to the stupendous feature set they're expect to implement and make available to every web page.
Tor browsers generally understand javascript must be disabled to avoid most of this sadness, but really a lot more ought to be locked down.
I think I'd expect serious Tor users run their browsers, and any other Tor tools, within a dedicated VM/live distro with network access mediated from outside of it.
But idk tho.
> Like is it possible that you watch a free movie on some website and get a knock on your door the next day about pirating?
I don't use "watch free movies here" websites because they tend to be complete cancer, but as far I understand it, it's much harder to make a legal case against someone watching a movie online that against someone making bits of that movie available to other users. So I'd expect they're probably safe in that respect. Less so in regard to all the malware their ad spots will keep pushing on you, but you know..

Hi. I don't visit /g/ often and I don't know shit about computers. Sorry if this is not the right place to ask.
I accessed an old microsoft email account I had and used to register on forums and stuff like that maybe 15-20 years ago. Anyway, Apparently there people trying to log in from all over the world, there are like 50 tries a day, sometimes it is successful. My name was changed to something in arabic.
I googled the address in case it was shared in some warez site or something but that wasn't the case.
Should I worry? There's nothing of value AFAI can remember, although I'll check obv. Is this normal? Are common email accounts constantly under siege of hackers or did I do something wrong? I'm literally a nobody btw.
>>
>>103235671
If you can be identified from your email, there could be trouble. Look up identity theft. And the police will not care if you say or even is a nobody if your email address can be tied to a major incident. The police is under pressure to arrest someone, or anyone, to show progress, and your nobodyness will not shield you from a lifetime in jail. One estimate I saw was that 4 percent of people in jail are innocent. And they are still stuck in jail.
And yes, attempting to force passwords is a 24/7 activity. Consider all passwords with less than 7 characters to be compromised, years ago. Even 8 characters is dubious.

>Modern /cyb/ is a sad state.
I am not sure what is going on but it looks like it is the work of one person. Others do make genuine contribution.
>I remember like 2-3 years ago guys were talking about how to hack, how to lean, and even certs they were working on.
Probably before 2021, since that was when The Incident happened.

Ah yes, the famous /cyb/ incident.
Nobody knows what the incident was really about, we only could perceive its existence through the metrics it produced.

This board is essentially /v/, /pol/, and /vg/ schizos all taking turns trying to rape a dead corps. My advise is to use one of the alt chans. Technology is kill on /g/.

All the other imageboards I use have no tech boards sadly. Would be cool to get a group together
