It's great for general desktop shit but I'm still keeping my secondary PC for gaming and local AI stuff. My Steam library in Mac OS only has a couple games that can run, and Crossover while impressive is too slow. AI stuff runs impressively well but it's still a bit slow and during extended runs the Mac Mini gets as hot as an inferno which makes me worry about its longevity.

Don't get a mac mini unless you're a individual who needs something pretty to sit on your desk for making shitty iphone apps or whiny blog posts

If you just want something small, there's a billion decent small form factor PCs where you can actually afford a decent amount of memory or to put your own SSD in. Then you have something where you can use any homeserver software you want

I don't own an AppleTV, but I assume (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that it's like SmartTV's and Chromecasts in that you'll be seeing ads. I mean, you could always pay more for the higher subscription tiers that don't show ads, but on a desktop you can just run basic-level streaming services through your webbrowser, with an ad-blocker, and not get ads.

Purely as an HTPC, I don't think the M4 Mac is going to be obsolete for a very long time. I'm sure it could playback hypothetical 8k movies at 24fps.

On the power consumption topic, I think it's just plain neat that in a hypothetical off-grid scenario that your computer becomes more and more a non-factor as more energy efficient pc's like the Mac Mini come out. Already, if all your household just uses tablets and smartphones, the energy demands are so trivial that a ~$200 power station and single 100w solar panel is enough to keep them charged forever without compromises. Even if you have a dozen of them. As more computers like the Snapdragon Elite X and M4 macs are introduced, it'll become like that for your PC.

There's a tons of other games out there for M-series Macs. Seems to be a wide enough selection to never get bored.

these people are wasting their time and effort
imagine doing all that work that no one asked for and no one wants and you're not even getting paid for it

Buy nice or buy twice.

It feels like Mac game support is getting better again, around the time of the m1 Macs and dropping 32bit support It felt like especially Indies got burnt on supporting Macs due to the extra effort, maybe because a lot of the older engines they used didn't support 64bit for whatever reason. Stuff like RenPy based VNs.

But maybe the fairly accessible nature of the M4 will change that.

yeah why not
if appo ecosystem doesnt create friction in your workflow, go for it why not
know that appo are anti consumer doe
and rationally there is 0 incentive to buy appo

cheaper than a 4090 build
>>

Wrong. This infringes upon every central tenant of the PC hobby.
>no Windows 11 Pro
>no games
>no CD drive
>no HDD
>no VGA/DVI ports
>no USB-A ports
>not compatible with Arch Linux

Like, why would someone buy this?? Why do you need a computer if you're not playing games or running Linux? Mac will never be taken seriously if it's not ready for gaming on day one. PC Master Race exists for a reason. Real gamer, out!

your shitheap housefire needs a computer to run, retard.
a 4090 build id way higher than a $3400 m4 max

For a Mac product, it's actually priced suprisingly well, shame anything beyond the base spec is dogshit however
