I understand that music players were needed before smartphones took over, what even is the point of buying one nowadays?
>>103217263There is no point.
>>103217263Headphone jackNot being afraid of losing it or breaking it
>>103217263That one in particular is able to drive pretty big headphones. It’s still too expensive but I imagine that if it works as advertised it can make headphones sound massive. Why you would want that from a portable player I’m not sure but if they sell it then people must be buying.
>>103217263Better DACs if you own an expensive pair of headphones. This is why people are generally told to use 64 kbps per channel with Opus even though 4/5 MOS is being reported at just 24 kbps per channel. That said it's really fucking stupid that these kikes won't move these DACs to said expensive headphones + micro SD card slot and let us control them through bluetooth/buttons. Technologically speaking there's no need for these things to exist other than sheer kikery.
>>103217263Do we really need this thread again,It will just be 300 triggered idiots screaming about music players and that you should stream everything and carry around a 8inch smartphone at all times.
>>103217312>Headphone jack get a usb c dac>Not being afraid of losing it or breaking itsame can be said about phones no?
Specialized technology >>> general technologytrue for every specific use case.
>>103217312>Not being afraid of losing it or breaking itreally hope you're not referring to op picrel
why are there practically no modern alternatives to the ipod nano
-separate battery, you won't drain your main communication device when you want to listen to music-headphone jack, in some cases multiple, and on-board audio more powerful than your typical dongle or smartphone that still has a headphone jack, able to run studio headphones-large amount of storage and the ability to add mSD cards, something that's rarer and rarer with smartphones as wellBasically, if you need one, you know why you need one. If not, you're gonna wonder who the fuck buys these, but there is a market for those. Shit like the FiiO M17 is like having an entire audio stack and shelves worth of CD's in a portable device, so it's an outlier compared to most DAP's.
>>103217263I like my Walkman :)
>>103217263Audiophiles will buy anything no matter how dumb, that's all
>>103217263Depriving dipshits of their money. These are not better than iphones are.
>>103217856Alright, give me something like that 20,000 mah energizer brick phone with a replaceable NVMe storage drive, a DAC AMP, and capable of outputting audiophile-quality lossless music with just WiFi/Bt capabilities and the ability to isolate and turn them off to make battery life better.
>>103217856Android MP3 players with SD card support & headphone jack are available for 50$ on Amazon.
>>103217450>carry around a 8inch smartphone at all times.Instead you should carry around your smartphone AND a brick
>>103218481all that work for some fucking grados too kek
>>103217263Mental illness, people so retarded that they think buying something expensive in audio will get you a better experience.
>>103217263Privacy?
>>103217667>op picjust saved you 3 keystrokesno need to thank me
>>103217263they're called consumer goods, not consumer bads, it's good for you.
>MFW I'm the only person in /g/ who still listens to music on a portable CD player because I'm an intelligent patrician audiophileIt feels good, lads.My physical music CDs will last over 50 years, whereas your "digital music" will last less than 10 years because of data degradation (bit rot).https://www.techtarget.com/searchstorage/definition/bit-rot
>>103219930CD's are digital thoughbeit
>>103217263seperate device seperate battery lifea lot of times they can be smallercertain ones have better DAC than smartphonesbut also you not everything needs to be done on one device. it's nice to seperate usecases for many reasons.they cant harvest data and analytics from what i listen to on my modded ipod classic 5th gen. >>103217826sansa clipor just use the ipod nano with a mod
>>103219930> 50 yearsTell that to my copy of Flight Simulator X
>>103219930I just rip my cds into flac files, store the discs in a binder and the flacs on a drive. any time i check on those files, theres no bitrot. My assumption is that it is because i didn't convert to any lossy codecs, like mp3 or ogg, where the bitrot chances are significantly higher and degrade much faster.>>103217263You really do not need this audiophile grift device or any like it unless you already have the Other Equipment to make it "worth it", otherwise just get a used lgv20 or 30, put an sd card in it and enjoy.
>>103217263Because i fucking hate spotify and any kind of atreaming service
>>103217263what's some good chink cheap DAP? need something with a decent chip and a sd slot
I dont own a smartphone. I never owned a smartphone and never will. I still use a fricken Sansa mp3 player from the 00's
>>103222293any of them.
>>103217541They're shit and the dual charge and jack things don't work

>>103217312you can get durable phones with headphone jacks, as well as with an sd card slot
I barely ever use my Sansa Clip+ anymore. Phones are the end-game. You can play all of your music, do it wirelessly, and more.
>>103217826There's like a dozen of these type
Any opinions on aigo eros q vs hifi walker h2 vs surfans f20? What are the differences?
>what even is the point of buying *audiophool snakeoil* nowadays?idk
>>103219589Huh?
i still use my Gen1 iPod Mini with the iPod dock.I keep a firewire pcie card in my PC.None of this modern chinkshit can ever compare. It is even better than my iPhone.I bought this in 2005 the week before Hurrican Katrina. I lived on the Gulf Coast at the time and i had to wait 3 weeks for delivery. I’ve replaced the battery the micro HDD with a modern CF card.
>>103228219does it only still work with modern ios?appo likes to obsolete their shit to force their customers to buy more e-waste
>>103228231it works just fine with iTunes. And every FOSS music manager recognizes it. im 40 years old. I doubt I will add many more sings to it. It basically stays in the dock and plays music through my hifi.
>>103217341nigcattle humans really be out there spending 1700 bucks on a thing that's trying to emulate their ears as closely as possible instead of just using their ears lmao
>>103228272>still werksngl, that was slightly surprizingapple are known for their predatorial practices
>>103228336>predatorial practicesthose started with the release of the ipod nano
>>103228693noted.i wasnt interested in apple products before 2018 or so, when i started to prepare to integrate a programming school (they used macs there) (i was 30 at that time, btw)
>>103219930>le bitrot meme

>>103217940>NO MUSIC PLAYERS ARE FUCKING STUPID JUST USE YOUR PHONE REEEEEEEE
>>103217541fuck your dongles faggot im not participating in your humiliation ritual
>>103217263Quality, presumably. How much of that is true and actually perceivable, no idea, though phones nowadays don't even have plugs for real headphones anymore and even back when they did, their output power was very low for a lot of the better headphones out there. I guess a dedicated music player can solve all these problems internally, rather than needing external adapters, dongles, amplifiers and other such crap like a phone does.
>>103217263That one in particular is a bit of a meme. If I had fuck you money I'd still hunt down a NOS 5th gen and stick an SSD in it rather than buy that fucking brick.
