Isnt it theoritecally possible to make an app that acts as a recieve only pager on any smartphone? You just get a USB-C to 3.5mm Jack adapter and the wired earphones will pick the radio waves like we used to listen to the radio using them just 10yrs ago(no idea why we cant now) whats exactly stopping you from doing this /g/ it should be super easy imo.

You can run pocsag decoder with rtlsdr usb stick.
If manufacturers cared they could theoretically implement RDS based pager decoder, that could work with existing hardware.
If you're interested in infrastructure less messaging look at meshtastic, only needs cheap lora module.
