I think I figured out why I can never get comfortable with the 560s or 599se, they use a single hinge design while my previous Sennheisers I liked used a regular hinge so now I need a good pair of open back headphones for media consumption + some gaming. Thinking of taking a gamble on the new FT1 Pro unless someone has better suggestions? Was thinking of the DT 990 Pro before that but I've heard they can be a bit tight and comfort is my first priority, plus I've heard some people find the treble piercing

Do you guys have the issue of your headphones getting really warm? I'm using the FIIO JT1 and they get annoyingly warm after a while. Would swapping the earpads work? Any recommendations? Also they fuck my hair up but I assume that's unfixable

Is there any "go to" good price/performance unit thats usually recommended?
If I use my pee cee's DAC, and my headphone can be driven by it too, is there still a reason to get one? I mean sound quality wise.

I like planar. If you want to save money try and get a used pair of HE5XX.
Do plan on using some kind of dedicated Headphone Amp. They don't exactly have high impedance, but they're more hungry for voltage than you'd assume.
If you want to really enjoy a high end set of headphone you need to get an amp. Doesn't have to be crazy. If you can ever find an older O2+ODAC for cheap they're well worth it. I guess I lucked out when I got my Mayflower for cheap years ago. Not really sure why they're so expensive right now.

I personally have and recommend the DropHifiman HE5XX. I bought them new for about $230 a couple years ago. Yes, I'd like to upgrade, but the only headphones I could see my self upgrading to cost $600 and I'm just not sure it's worth it.
The best thing about the HE5XX is that you can invest in a balanced cable for them and run them from a balanced amp. They're already set for balanced cables, no modification needed like Beyers.
With a balanced headphone amp with balanced headphones you won't need as much power to push them as you would with Single Ended.
I got a pretty expensive balanced headphone amp from England for cheap. It's not really all that powerful, but it's balanced and with my balanced cable it really made the HE5XX sound really good.

Headphone frens, I come in peace, as one of you. I've been lurking here for nearly a decade, have tried all kinds of headphones and various fotm people are shilling.
I was in the market for some new tws for on the go and got to checking out iems in general. Decided on a whim to try one of the highly regarded budget ones for shits and gigs.
It came yesterday and I am blown away by the sound. The amount of clarity and detail is crazy. I've been ABing with my 880s (with EQ} and they sound much better. The quantity and quality of the bass, very balanced in the mids and treble.
I'm gonna continue ABing with my other headphones, but it's worth trying one of the top budget iems.
I've never had a truly top of the line headphone, but in the sub $300 tier, it seems like iems might be a better value.

Basically true for planar. DD can sound different depending on source impedance. With planar as long as you're not asking for >2mW you're probably fine. Which, if you want to drive the Edition XS to movie peak volume levels (100-110dB) you'll be well in excess of that, but for most other listening tasks you shouldn't need an amp.

I don't think MDR-7506 and HD 280 Pro are ultra comfy, MDR-7506 has shallow pads, HD 280 Pro is very clampy and both have little headband padding.
Beyer are comfy because of their large pads and you can reduce clamp force by bending the steel headband.
Sony MDR-M1 is slightly above your budget (250€) but worth a look, pads aren't huge but they're very light.
Shure SRH840A is another option, you can swap their pleather pads for velour (Shure HPAEC940) or alcantara (Shure HPAEC1540).
