According to a recent study, software engineers have a life expectancy of only 55 years, compared to 78 years for the general population.

- Sitting too long, sedentary lifestyle.

- Staring at a close screen too long and bad posture, bad blood circulation.

- Eating the free shit shitty companies provide in the break room.

- Dealing with morons day in and out raises Cortisol levels. Combine with the shitty food this causes insulin resistance, fatty liver, fatty pancreas, fatty thymus. Converting the thymus to fat prematurely cripples the improperly named immune system that should be called the repair or anti-aging system.

- Being around people that will take any "vaccine" or experimental gene therapy when told to do so, so they also get cucked despite it being a Nuremberg violation, or otherwise known as a clear and present danger that warrants self defense.

- More likely to be exposed to very junior managers being propped up as "leaders".

There are thousands of other factors but those are some of the bigger ones.

this is fucking bullshit. as an adult you "have no time" because it takes fucking weeks to be able to afford the next thing to progress your "free time"
so you end up working and pissing away your days most of the time.
and my fucking energy is at 0%

people who are seen as successful in life can only get there if they have very poor goals in their 20s and 30s, or they get lucky/born into money. Otherwise you simply work for 20 years straight doing nothing at all except try to start a family and survive on the peanuts we are all paid now

I am not, and I just spent the last 6 weeks eating nothing so that i could afford enough firewood so that my family does not die this winter, because I spend all my days at work and cannot go cut firewood.
>>
Probably all the negativity associated with the profession. There's no benefit to the producers of good software, sometimes you get money but that's about it. All your other needs go unmet and you're constantly receiving stress from people and the tasks themselves. All the good things you do go unoticed but all the bugs are tied directly to your name and commit, your list of mistakes is highlighted regularly but your accomplishments are silent, when things just work nobody notices or cares. And other such nonsense.
>>
Stress does not explain a life expectancy of 55. Killing yourself because you're an autistic loser with no future does.
>>
why do i bother working so much when i don't even spend my money
i'm working towards retirements, but i'm afraid that once i'll get there i'll want to die of boredom and regrets

You have to have a hobby or a family
It's better you realize that and even slow down to maintain those things rather than work 80 hours a week, cooking your brain on Adderall to retire at 40.

I think it will be best to cut back work as you get older. Working a 16 hour week when in your 40's is a more realistic and secure goal then retiring at that age, since a bit of income decently reduces the retirement pot required and it maintains your professional skills incase everything goes to shit and you need to start working full time again.

Googling this sentence, the only result is "Postamate" whose other articles include
>42% of all Middle Aged Men in Nairobi are 3 Months Pregnant
>Canada Builds a 8000 km Wall to Keep out Americans

What I can't tell is whether you knowingly posted this or if you googled something about SWE burnout and copy/pasted the first quote you found without realising it was satire.

Programmers tend to have a lot of money since, you know, they make more than average and likely spend less than average. I knew programmers that made $80K+/yr and lived in a $1000/mo apartment for years.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that software engineers are less likely to settle with a partner, which is what kills life expectancy.

They spend all day looking at sick animals and have to kill a lot of them. The profession also attracts a lot of sensitive females. And basically every vet has lost another vet peer to suicide. Doesn't help that a lot of the animals killed can be saved but it'd cost money and poorfags are too poor to afford it and richfags say fuck it and go buy another pet instead.

is life supposed to be different as you grow older? my life is literally the exact same at 25 as when I was 12.

is adulthood real or is it a meme? I don't get it. wasn't I supposed to "mature"?

It's a passion job that requires you to waste years of schooling to get. It also pays like shit and you have to murder cute animals because people can't afford to take care of them.

This. I've lost two coworkers in 4 years. Every day feels like I have no control of my life, I go in to work with no purpose, nothing I do brings happiness to anyone. Just show up, we are so sorry miss 8yo girl but your family dog you fed nothing but sawdust and hard tap water to all through the earliest years of your memories now has liver disease and your parents do not want to spend $1200 to help it so it will be killed.
The cycle pushes you to hate humans, feed depression that you hate what you are, you cannot change it
>>
>>103236674
Hard tap water destroys dog livers?
>>
>>103236674
They're just animals dude. Humans get put down like this all the time. You turn 80 and your shit starts failing. We can spend a billion dollars replacing your organs every year like we're trying to patch a leaky boat or we can pull the plug. We live in a world where you can prolong life to an absurd degree but how many fucking liver operations should a 12 year old dog have?

Yes, I am. Just not on the levels as some others. You have no fucking idea the type of crazy assholes we have. It's fucking insane. To be honest some basic levels of narcissism and/or ego is required for this job, but a lot of programmers are like schizo crazy.

This is why it is objectively morally wrong to keep pets in the modern world. Perhaps a long time ago when we hunted side by side with canines it was a more symbiotic relationship, but that is long gone and our moral framework is much more advanced today than it was back then.

So you feel bad because you have entered an unnatural contract and it fucks with your mind. If we generalize then there are three acceptable ways for a human being to interact with an animal:
- to hunt it and eat it or in modern times to breed it, kill it and package its remains
- to use it for a specific purpose: herding sheep, guarding property, guiding the blind, warning of seizures, etc. Some of these are less necessary today, but all of them signify humans superiority over nature and a humans birthright as an imperialist being to dominate that which is lesser than itself. To dominate and change nature as it sees fit.
- to disregard it and remove it from harm's way when it has no use for it aka leave it alone
Animals aren't made to be pets, they are not for your entertainment. If you need a dog to keep you mentally healthy then you are just too weak. Correct your problem instead of using something that has no mental capacity to have a say in the matter as your clutch. It is objectively immoral and wrong. Just stop torturing yourself and get a job where you don't contribute to the problem.

Narcissism has little to do with schizophrenia. Sure you have similar symptoms, comorbidities, etc. but covert/vulnerable narcs are different. They're obnoxiously needy and parasitic.

Sadly not surprising at all that this is number one if you know just a little about basically any of these industries.
10 is a really retarded mix, I bet ads and pr are why that entry is even on the list. Corpo exec suicides are very high profile and relatively rare. Definitely not common enough to beat out health care or food service on its own.
