Is this overkill for a private backup + media server? I'd run the disks in a RAID 1 configuration.

The RAM is.

This is the only current option at the Hetzner auctions with less RAM and it's currently more expensive than the same with 64 GB.

Ok, I reconsidered. That shit is 800€ pear year. I'll stick with a much smaller VPS and a slow Storage Box

at that point why not look into AWS Cold/Glacier storage or the Azure equivalent.

why?

I never looked into either, but I don't really see the appeal. The "Flexible retrieval" (1 minute to 12 hours) costs $0.004455 per GB of storage + requests/retrievals etc. That's $4.455 per TB compared to Hetzner's 3.81€ for 1 TB.

That will run the shit out of a jellyfin server.

Don't want to lose my data/restore everything from an additional backup when the second hand server HDD fails.
