OpenRC is the grassroots solution to Linux initialization. It just werks.
What's your excuse for not using it?
>>
OpenRC is a complete mess that only the most terminal tinker tranny would consider acceptable quality. It's like using some guys dot files from github to initialize your system.
>>
>>103231884
I use runit, I'd switch but I have no complaints, so I don't see why I should.
>>
>>103231884
Because systemd is fine. I don't get why you hate it. It's the most mentally draining thing to take unbridge with. Why does everything on Linux have to be some religion? Fuck off already.
>>
i use systemd
>on gentoo
it works great and i like how integrated things are. i like user services, systemd-networkd, systemd-boot, systemd-nspawn, etc
i can agree it's overkill for some embedded uses perhaps, but if you actually use many of its' features, it's nice how well it all ties together. on gentoo you can also configure the build to only include the features you want to use
>>
>>103231884
>It just werks.
your argument lacks substance and thus remains uncompelling. If Canonical or Red Hat don't ship it, it's probably meme technology
>>
>>103231984
It's popular and everything on Linux that gets popular gets hated by the vocal minority. They're never happy because they're mentally ill. They break things on purpose. They use Linux as a placebo because the gender transition didn't fix their mental state.

I can guarantee that your gentoo install is no different from some redditor's arch install, honestly, I'm not even implying anything negative here, simply impressed by your dedication to using a worst possible combination of USE while being able to use any other one.
>>
>>103231991
>if these incompetent companies can't ship it
if that's your worldview, that's really grim
>>
>>103232771
>you use things that are popular
have you considered that there's a reason it's popular? at least try to come up with reasons to use openrc instead
there's nothing wrong with openrc of course, i just like some of the additional features systemd has
>>
>>103232833
Being a midwit is popular.

The only reason I need to hate systemd is that it took udevd hostage.
>>
I like dinit
>>
>>103231884
I run devuan and frankly idk what my init is, other than it not being systemd. It's some kind of sysvint compatible init but I haven't memorized its name.
>>
>>103231884
Because I don't care as I'm not enough of a power user to benefit from it. But I'm glad that OpenRC exists for those who need it.
>>
>>103231884
>openRC just werks evendoe you can only use it on tinkertranny distros and evendoe it's not different at all from systemd for the average user
I'm sticking with mint, thanks
>>
I'm using GNU Shepherd!
>>
>>103233195
Gummiboot too. GRUB and rEFInd are bloat, syslinux is abandoned and has trouble booting recent kernels.
>>
>>103231884
Because its only available on distros that I dont really want to use, like Gentoo. I was going to make my own distro and use OpenRC.
>>
>>103231884
most big distrozs ship systemd so that's what I use
>>

I've never seen a good post with this picture attached to it.

What about openRC didn't work out for you? I've mostly been using Gentoo over the years, so don't know systemd well enough to compare them.
>>
>>103231884
have not used systemd in years.

not even going to make arguments for or against. My preference is the best for me.

Memeword used by retards that think they're smart.

This post is like that the pajeet code image, but for 'no u'. Lmfao, well done.
>>

>If Canonical or Red Hat don't ship it, it's probably meme technology
these companies use gnome, the worst possible desktop, as standard DE of their distros
>>
my init is a 100-line script in plain bourne shell that ends in a zombie-reaping trap hack
>>
>>103233195
they missed sudo
>>
>>103238264
>the pajeet code image
Which one?
The manually counting from 0 to 100?
The infinite if else recursions?
The 30000 updates to that one repos readme.md?
With jeets you got to be way more specific there is so fucking much to chose from.
>>
Because avoiding systemd entirely is a fool's errand these days, whether anyone likes it or not, and the service management parts of systemd are not what's wrong with it.
>>
>>103231884
No, OpenRC was more like "the UNIX™ solution" just use an script and glue everything using ugly hacks, that is the UNIX™ way.
>>
>>103231884
why not just use runit
>>
>>103241050
lmao thats about right
reminds me of when i developed hr slopware - yeah its complicated as hell and makes you want to rope while debugging it, but if you had to design a system that met every asinine configuration and integration requirement, you would quickly learn you can either design a plate of tortellini (abstract factory hell) or a big ol bowl of spaghetti
im glad i dont work on that mess anymore but whenever i hear moaning about software being too complex, i cant help but roll my eyes. who do you think requested all the complexity, the evil faeries who inhabit the code mines?
>>
>>103231984
Agree. I use the most default setup of systemd for years and it just werks. I want to have a life and not waste it on tinkering with these religious stuff.
