Can I connect an audio digital coaxial output to speakers, audio interface etc easily?Maybe one coaxial to aux in cable?
I don't know much about audio but I think speakers need an analog signal so you need a DAC (digital to analog converter) somewhere in between.
what ^said. Speakers don't accept digital signals.
>>103234735>>103234875I see. I have an UR22 but it's not enough. It's USB input only.
>>103235017just get a cheap DAC that will take in a coax and give you RCA outs. I do this on my TV that has an optical out.
I'll need this little fuck. It's $15.>>103235078
>>103235138and how will you control the volume?
>>103234611>>>/g/sqt/You already figured it out and I strongly recommend you get a nice DAC, not a cheap one
>>103234611There's an adapter cable yeah. Ignore the DAC retards
>>103235138i highly advice against that. no you don't need an audiophile dac but you shouldn't get the cheapest shit either.https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/measurements-of-a-5-dac.58490/
>>103235304and what do you think this "adapter" is if not a DAC retard?
>>103235378Yes. Ok.>>103235201It will go straight to speakers aux in.Speaker knobs.>>103235234It's alright. We can have one less Linux thread.
I have made things too complicated..It would maybe be better to get some sort of a new 2.1 sound system and connect the player on these.Or even find a system that has hdmi audio in.
>>103235948
>>103235953>>103235948But then I need a preamp maybe. I am just fucked.
>>103235948I wouldn't say you made things complicated, that's just how optical audio works.>>103235983Those speakers are very convenient, I'd get them if I were you. Also, you won't need preamps since the speakers have built-in amps
>>103235993Yes they do have amps, I am stupid.I will keep an eye for Dark Friday. Maybe it's time to replace the T20 Creatives I have with something like this.
>>103235948hey i've got these exact same speakersbased af
I am seriously considering a soundbar at this point since it's a desk kind of setup I am trying to put together. Not a couch/TV.>>103236074Tell me about the Edifiers, what inputs do they have?
some speakers do have optical inputs. I don't think coaxial SPDIF was ever very common
>>103237724I see that I can find speakers with coaxial input. But I am researching now how it performs in stereo blu ray movies. Since it says here that HDMI can transfer a lot more film specialized formats from Dolby and such.I assume that if I listen to stereo coaxial will be enough. But I will make sure.I don't want to put a disc and have no sound because it will be coaxial instead of HDMI.
>>103235201It's line level, you're meant to pipe it into an amp or self-amplified speakers, either or which will have a volume control and expect a line level input.
>>103234611Take a step back OP, what is this box and what are you trying to do with it? Is it connecting to a TV?
>>103238345spdif (whether optical or coaxial) is either 2 channels pcm or a compressed format like dolby/dts. hdmi can do 8 channels pcm, all the same compressed formats, and newer ones like atmos.in a pc context, 2 channels pcm is fine even for movies and games. In home theater, sometimes using 2 channel pcm means a downmix from a 5.1/7.1 source will not include the LFE (.1/subwoofer). You just miss out on the bass that the subwoofer is meant to play, even if you do have a subwoofer wired up to a 2.0 audio signal. The Dolby-compliant behavior is that if you don't have a subwoofer you don't need sub-bass in the 2.0 audio path.My old 2009 Yamaha reciever has the option to mix LFE into the main speakers, and mixes any number of input channels up to 8 into any number of outputs up to 8. While this is a standard feature even on old receivers, I can't tell you what you'll get if you connect your streaming box or tv directly to a DAC or a powered speaker system. There may not be any options to adjust.Of course it's all moot if you don't have a subwoofer. For your typical sound bar system you can use the coaxial connector without worrying.2 channels pcm SHOULD be enough for a perfect 2.0/2.1/2.2 experience, but sometimes it isn't thanks to Dolby. Another fun gotcha is that the LFE channel is supposed to be boosted 10db after it comes out of the DAC on Dolby/DTS encoded content, but isn't for most music and games, so you need some way to adjust that.
>>103242663In any case, you will at least get sound through the coaxial connection. The modern formats have a backwards compatibility mode that allows them to work even with receivers from the early 90s as long as they support the original dolby/dts stanard.
>>103242603I am poorfagging a blu ray setup. Connect it with HDMI to my PC 2K monitor. However the monitor doesn't have speakers or audio out.So I need a separate audio solution.I have an UR22 interface and a pair of T20 Creative speakers. They have a 3.5mm AUX in and headphone output. It can do RCA to stereo 3.5mm.However the blu ray player has HDMI Out dedicated and Coaxial audio.I try to determine how to go about it with the sound.
>>103244714*Hdmi audio only out
>>103242663Thank you.It says here the player is capable >Downmix Options>Stereo: The player can downmix surround audio (e.g., 5.1 or 7.1) to 2-channel stereo if connected to a stereo system.>5. Coaxial Digital Output>Limited to stereo PCM or downmixed Dolby Digital/DTS when connected to devices that don’t support multichannel formats. So even if I have a 2.1 system, with coaxial I won't get the 0.1 woof bass like you said.
>>103244759Scrap that I was mistaken. The robot sent me some better info:Yes, the subwoofer in your 2.1 speaker system should work when connected via coaxial, as long as your audio system or receiver properly manages the bass frequencies. Here’s how it works:1. Coaxial Digital Audio Output:The Sony UBP-X700 sends a stereo PCM or compressed Dolby Digital/DTS signal via coaxial. If your 2.1 speaker system has a built-in decoder or bass management system, it will redirect low-frequency sounds to the subwoofer.2. Bass Management:Most 2.1 systems automatically split the audio signal, sending higher frequencies to the satellite speakers and lower frequencies to the subwoofer.Ensure your system has this feature enabled, as it's essential for the subwoofer to function correctly.3. Downmixing and Subwoofer Support:The UBP-X700 will downmix multichannel audio to stereo if required. While stereo itself doesn’t have a dedicated subwoofer channel, your 2.1 system will extract the low frequencies and route them to the subwoofer. To ensure optimal performance:Check that your 2.1 system is set up to process coaxial audio inputs and perform bass management.Use the PCM output option on the UBP-X700 for maximum compatibility if your 2.1 system doesn't support decoding Dolby Digital or DTS.If the subwoofer isn’t working as expected, ensure the speaker system settings are configured to manage bass, and test with another source to rule out setup issues.
One bump for this anon. Maybe this will manage to reach him.>>103242603
