why is everything so ugly now?

Software equivalent of brutalist architecture

Keep in mind that our nostalgia only remembers the best examples of those design eras.
Just look at the UI on that Galaxy S3. It's a mess.

y2k shit is so fucking ugly
that black monolithic xbox looks cool

Flat "design" is not even design. Its lacks sufficient features to qualify, its not anything.
>>
>>103235830
nigga you're flat
>>
>>103235776
I like the transparent plastic trend, but I guess it's actually bad for the electronics
>>
How well would pre Flat designs handle varying screen resolution? Certain legacy software and Windows system popups looked blurred on my 4K monitor.
>>
>>103235776
Jeets and chinks.

That's literally what it always comes down to.
>>
>>103235776
Marxist liberals want to be "diverse" so flat design appeals to them in ugliness.
>>
dates are wrong though
Memphis is 1983 to 1993
Y2K is 1996 to 9/11/2001
Aero is 2005 to 2012
Flatshit is 2013 to 11/5/2024

I remember thinking all those styles were oppressively ugly and ubiquitous at the time. Zoomer nostalgia for it puzzles me.

Gen Alpha will, in 15 years' time, be bemoaning the loss of the "clean" millennial graphic design style, they'll have some name for it you've never heard before, they'll think the whole world must have been so simple and twee and heckin wholesome chungus back then, why can't we retvrn
>>

Just customize your PC to match one of those styles. If you use Linux this is trivial. If you use Windows you might need Openshell or some other equivalent, but it is still doable. If you use Mac you are just SOL. You don't have to let big-tech determine your styles unless you want to.

Aesthetics peaked with Art Deco and we've been degenerating ever since.

I actually loved the style of Vista when I was little. The glass look was what made me beg my parents for a new PC

Why are you still on this website?

flatshit scales with everything, its just a matter of convenience. I think studies showed that it actually takes longer for people to navigate

I miss transparent colored plastics.

I never once looked at Windows XP and though, "man, this is so oppressive." Same with W7, Mac OSX.
Sure, earlier than that, yes, the blocky design of W95 looked a bit depressing, but it made up for it with the number of themes it shipped with, complete with sounds and cursors. It was not peak (that was Snow leopard and Lion), but it was almost peak.
