One of America's oldest and most prolific tech companies just laid off 10% of their total workforce.

What does this mean for this aviation tech company going forward?

Google days 2200 workers today, what’s the other 15,000 from? Year to date or what? Nothing bad will happen, Elon showed you don’t need 80% of a tech workforce to exist

17k 1 month ago, additional 2,200 today. The 2.2k is from 1 plant.

>provoke strike by offering below-inflation contract
>fire 17,000 non-machinist employees
>eliminate 767 freighter program that was dependent on regulatory extensions
>air freight customers must choose other model
>military KC program can now be gouged even more
>machinist pay now +38% (still below inflation) but scaled over several years
>machinists back in less than two months and will now be working at much less than inflation for 3+ years
Is that about right? Sure looks like a well-executed downsizing plan while under the smokescreen of the strike's PR hit.

I'd rather fly on top of a Weather Balloon with nothing but a loose handle to keep me from falling.

Now the remaining employees should go on a strike and kill this poo company

not this time, the air force is sick of their bullshit and refuses to budge from the contract price

Not much. Time for more war factories to spin up, newer tech, less people falling out of the sky, less PAN PAN - PAN PAN, less MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY - Boing flight 666 we have lost our doors and wings, send Superman.

It's already been decided. Boeing is not too big to fail. The aviation portion of the company is to be merged into the recently formed GE Aerospace while everything else will be sold off to whoever wants to buy it. Boeing has relied on being "too big to fail" to get away with having terrible quality and everyone in the government and industry are sick of it. Hopefully most of Boeing's leadership is fired as part of the merger instead of poisoning GE Aerospace like McDonald-Douglas poisoned Boeing.
