>7 inches, sweetspot between portability and readability >only $160>orange light mode>kindle unlimited free for 3 months>IPX8>300 PPIthis seems like the last e-reader I’d ever buy until it breaks for whatever reason, I see no reason not to get it
>>103242939>ereader threadis it true they suck at displaying pdfs? That pretty much how i read everything
>>103242939>kindle unlimited free for 3 monthsare people really that stupid? lmao
>>103242980The shitty cheap ones with weak hardware and tiny screens.More premium models with large (10"+) panels won't have any issues.
>>103243338was hoping to buy a cheep smol one. Guess ill stick with my laptop
>this seems like the last e-reader I’d ever buyAnd you aren't willing to pay a bit more for not getting fucked by Bezos? What do you even need IPX8 for? There is no sweet spot, it's all a compromise.
What is the most FOSS friendly e-reader there is?
>>103243443Usecase for a FOSS ereader? Every ereader allows sideloading.
>>103243505Shove that meme up your asshole, I want to have control of my device
>>103243315imagine hating free stuff this much
>>103242939The only reason this is usable is because i can send pirated shit to kindle. Fuck scamazon
>>103243511When you buy the device you have full control.
>>103243565How? Does it do well?
>>103243697There's 2 ways, sideloading manually or sending through amazon. I've had no problem with either way.
>>103243718Never read books (I promise I'm not retarded) I just prefer short things like articles, would getting a Kindle make it enjoyable to read? How does it do well with manga and things with pictures?
>>103243753In my opinion Kindle's (or other ereaders) make reading a lot easier. They would work well with articles, but if the articles very short it might not make sense to take the time to port it to an ereader.I can't comment on manga because I don't read it.
>>103243753You need a large screen for manga to properly display both pages. 13" is the best option but 10" is doable.
>>103243443none, the previous Kobo gen could run nigger rigged GNU/Linux, and almost all of them can easily run software, but none has ever had good support on the mainline kernel, and current ones have secure boot thus they can't ever run GNU/Linux Kindle's might be the least FOSS friendly, you can hardly ever jailbrrak them and run software on them I'm pretty sure none of the Android ones are foss friendly but you can run whatever android software you want on those and things won't ever change
>>103242939physical book is better
>>103242939I fucking hate e-readers. They're too big to fit in a pocket, they lag every time you turn the page and most aren't in color so you can't read comics. You know what I use to read e-books on the go? My fucking phone, nigger. It has none of the limits of a kindle and can do more. I don't understand how someone can be such cattle they'd buy one of these pieces of shit
>>103244064>It has none of the limits of a kindle and can do more. Except for being readable in daylight and the battery lasting for more than a week.Is most not having color even relevant when color models exist? Why does something have to fit in your pocket? Why can't you endure the split second it takes to turn the page in HQ mode? You are the cattle if you use a phone.
>>103243382What do you mean by getting fucked by bezos? Is there some major disadvantage that kindles have? Also, I would love IPX8, no need to worry about spills or thoroughly drying the kindle when I happen to use it with wet hands. Also fine using in the rain
>>103242939>>7 inches, sweetspot
>>103244064i have a pocketbook ereader and it fits in both my jeans and joggers pocketsit's nicer to read than a phone, and is more portable than 50 books
>>103242939https://www.ebook.de/de/product/47867685/tolino_shine.htmlstop sucking bezos dick, start buying Rakuten/Tolino
>>103244091>Except for being readableI turn up the brightness >battery lasting for more than a week. Why would I want it to last more than a week? I charge my phone every night. >Why does something have to fit in your pocket? So I can go out with it>Is most not having color even relevant when color models exist?Yeah, color models are expensive and my phone can already do it >Why can't you endure the split second it takes to turn the page in HQ mode? Why would I if I can just use my phone?>You are the cattle if you use a phone.Whatever you say Bezos paypig
>>103244097>Is there some major disadvantage that kindles have? They can't handle epub without conversion. You need jailbreak to install other software and not available for the newer models. They expect you to pay extra for a version without ads or with a little bit more storage.Compared to most of the alternatives you get a far more limited and locked down system.
>>103244218Do phones even last a whole day? I always see you cattle scrambling for chargers and mobile batteries. You also seem to buy new devices every second year.
>>103244290And most people I see with e-readers never actually read
>>103244300What do they do with e-readers that you know they have one?
>>103244321I know a girl who owns FOUR (proving this is a feminine product for those with woman brain) and she has read 2 books this year. I know this because I've spoken to her and don't spend all day trying to justify my shitty product choices on a Mongolian basket-weaving forum
>>103242980Just convert them
>>103243753i download the articles that are >7 pages or so and then send them to my Scribe. it works fine for me but if the screen was smaller (like a Paperwhite) i wouldn't bother and just read on my phone/pc
>>103242939>kindle unlimited free for 3 monthshttps://libgen.is/dunno if you can transfer to the new models THOUGH
>amazon ecosystem slopkobo or bust
>>103242939My wife's been using Kindle Papershite for 5 years now. Battery started dying recently and she has to use either calibre or Amazon email thing to upload books.I had 2 pocketbooks which were VERY fragile. They broke down from carrying them in the backpack. Other than that they were good.I am currently using kobo Libra 2. Syncthing and Koreader. So far so good.I am not reading Manga or any comics, so experience may vary
>>103242939Make sure it can be jailbroken so you can install Koreader. There are other important things to consider, like the screen or battery life, but if you can't install Koreader or it doesn't work well than your e-reader is worthless.
Too expensive, Kobo Clara BW is better. Also I don't like Spotify but for books on demand rental shit
>>103242939As a reader I have one, and I use it all the time, I use Calibre to convert epubs to amazon book format and put them on the book, haven't bothered with anything but that
>>103242939It's probably not the best choice for e-reader, but it is convenient. I just bought the newest one and personally enjoy it, though. I have no interest in sideloading books, so being "locked in" doesn't affect me that much. The page turn response actually feels great on the new model (I had the older one -- the difference is quite noticeable), but I have no idea how other e-readers compare in that regard.
>>103244064This is why I bought iPad Pro with oled display.
>>103245097This nigga gets it
