What the hell does that even mean???
(Fairchild Channel F power adapter)

I think this had something to do with vacuum tubes but not sure if it literally means VxA or something else. The world isn't fall out 4 anymore so we just use watts derived from the stated V and A measured under load.

Anyway 12 watts can be derived from 10V with a 1.2A load but that seems kind of low for old tech...

OH, this is a tranny former. I assume the "18V" part is what it's stepping down to from 120V AC so I guess these nerds seem to be implying that less than 18V AC may be used but cannot exceed 12VA (ie 12 watts).

WTF is this thing man? I don't remember consoles that ran with vacuum tubes...

the channel f shouldn't have any tubes in it, dunno what that other anon is talking about

VA is a similar notation to Watts. It's a bit more complicated but in general terms you can use it synonymously.

Power [W] = Voltage [V] * Current [A]

So Power is the product (multiplication) of Volts and Amps, also called VA or Watts.

So 12VA / 18V = 0.667A

Wrong.
It's 108R Listed.

VA is Voltampers. What it means is that not all of the "volt x ampers" product turns into Watts. Why? Because there is also reactive power there, which comes from inductor and capacitor reactance which exists only in AC. If you learnt DC circuits, you would remember that the average power of inductor/capacitor is 0, but for AC while their active power (what we call watts) Is zero, they reactive power is not 0.

Thanks anon, as an electrical engineer I appreciate this explanation.
