why didn't you tell me this was better than Plex in every way?
>>

I did. I have for a long time. Only fags use plex

?
Jellyfin only makes sense if you watch things more than once lmao.

>why didn't you tell me this was better than Plex in every way?
We did. Constantly.
>>
>>103250875
How do you secure your access?
>>
Too late, I already have lifetime Plex Pass and share it with my friends. Can't change ecosystems now.
>>
>>103252081
Don’t necessarily have to change. You can use both apps connected to the same server.
>>
>>103252038
>host on home server
>set up wireguard to remotely connect to your server at any time
>connect to wireguard when you want to watch movie or listen to music
that's it
>>
>>103252379
Yeah, I figured. That’s how I want to do it too, but I want WireGuard to run from my router, which is incompatible. Not comfortable with the reverse proxy path either.
>>
>>103250875

How do you download your movie?
Also, why do you need Jellyfin if the movie is already on your PC? Just double click it?
>>
>>103252512
There are VPS for under 1€ per month that you can severely under-utilise and run WireGuard on them.
>>
>>103252081
>I already have lifetime Plex Pass
So you paid money for basic features like hardware transcoding that you'd get out of the box for free with Jellyfin, therefore you have to stick with Plex?
>share it with my friends
You can share your jellyfin with your friends too.

Can anyone help me set this shit through docker?
how do I mount the docker vm to local storage so it could load media?
>>
>>103250875
The roku cilent is complete ass.
>>
>>103252512
>but I want WireGuard to run from my router
Why not run it from your server, open the required port on your router, and connect to it that way?
>>
>>103250875
It's missing a lot of things compared to Plex. If you don't know what those things are you probably don't use them. As an example watch parties on your tv not just pc.
>>
Is jellyfin dlna compatible? I'm using minidlna right now.
>>
>>103252752
Google drfrankenstein jellyfin docker guide.
>>
>>103250918
What did he mean by this
>>
I set up a jellyfin instance on an old linux box. It works great. But I never bother to watch anything because I find joy in nothing these days.
>>
>>103250875
are you doing dev work on jellyfin? no? then why the fuck do you have to run docker to get it to run? why is that shit not an executable?
>>
>>103253193
Same. I have 20tb of media(and growing) and watch none of it.
>>
>>103253217
Container runtimes ARE Linux
It's not even just the future of Linux anymore, it's also the past and present of how software runs on Linux.
Also for jellyfin it's a good idea to isolate it's dependencies from the rest of the system. It uses it's own special version of ffmpeg and seems to not work without it.
>>
>>103253139
It can do dlna. Not sure how practical it is. That 20yo standard feels like abandonware.
>>
>>103250875
Plex just werks on my TV. To install the Jf client, you need to do some gay song and dance, not worth it.
>>
>>103253410
>It uses it's own special version of ffmpeg and seems to not work without it
Jellyfin works much better with upstream ffmpeg than jellyfin-ffmpeg these days in my experience. Fewer errors and much better performance, which is ironic considering all the changes to jellyfin-ffmpeg were supposed to be performance improvements.
>>
>>103250875
everyone here has been telling you but you were too stupid to listen, FUCKING IDIOT
>>

True but the roku devs release updates for it all the time
don't know what they're doing

Why do I need this bloatware?
>>
so is this like the proper popcorn time replacement? my friend told me just do jellyfin + jellyseer + docker + radarr + sonarr or some insane combination of shit in order to get a popcorn time like replacement, idk how right he was. I kind of hate that you have to setup 30 tools to get idiot friendly torrenting with a ui reminiscent of netflix for normies, but I get why its like this now. Nobody wants to give you 1 tool that does it all or they'll get sued to death so you have to glue related tools together.
>>

thats Stremio + real debrid

I also heard about this. I'm fine with just torrenting and then putting it on a hdd but its nice when I have people over and they want to browse and click 1 button. I'm not paying for netflix + paramount + prime + hulu + [thousand other streaming services] either
>>
>>103254065

horrible software. disgusting performance decrease
use haproxy
>>
>>103250875
why did you install it in a gay virtual machine instead of just installing it normally?

docker is not a virtual machine

I just host it locally and run http. Simple as.
>>

because it's a bad idea
