There are ebay sellers who have 3D printed replacements for those parts for dirt cheap. They actually seem to be higher quality than the original parts so I recommend them.
It's slightly annoying that it's necessary but they're great headphones overall. At least fixing them is an option due to the simple modular design.
>>
>>103258434
Either buy 3d printed replacements or print your own, you do have a 3d printer right?

What are some good replacement earpads for them?
I hate the stock ones, and the thick leather ones I got for my k240's make the BD's sound like i'm under water

this is why the sennheiser hd 500 series is superior. built like a brick shithouse. abused the shit out of my hd 518 for over a decade, never cleaned them, never replaced the pads until recently, and nothing has broke and the drivers still sound the same. they're just solid hunks of plastic with no fragile parts.

>>103258434

>>
>>103258434
haven't had an issue with mine, but i did pay to have the cable modded so i can use a detachable cable
>>
>>103262863
That's surprising, I recommended 990s to a friend when he wanted to get a new audio setup. I warned him that the sliders would break at some point, and they did. I've never dropped these and mine broke as well. Maybe at some point they made the plastic much cheaper? They just felt like the cheapest plastic ever made when I was looking at the broken pieces.
>>
>>103261959
Yeah, I had tried a friend's 770s and liked them so much I was pretty much set on getting a pair as my next set of headphones. I was previously using some sub $20 things that I don't even remember where I got them. I did some research to confirm the 770s were good and then I got them used because I buy pretty much any electronics stuff used unless I can only find it new. I spent $100 and they've been great for years. I have no desire to get something to replace them and I expect them to be working for at least a decade if not many decades more

This. You have to pick up both cups at the same time to not stress the hinge. It requires some muscle memory to do it properly initially but afterwards you’ll do it properly every time. Never grab just one cup with one hand.

>>
>>103258550
>>103258605
Ideally don't use PLA.
If yours broke within 2 years, chances are you leave them somewhere where UV radiation weakened the plastic, PLA will have the same issue (then again a print every 2 years isn't a big deal). If you have UV resistant filament, use that instead.
>>
>>103269193
This, use a high infill percentage and print out of PETG (or ideally ASA if you have the option) for best results.
>>
>>103269193
I'll try reprinting them in something a bit stronger when/if they break, but I've printed fightpads(buttons included) that are still in use today after a year or so in PLA.

Chinks are obsessed with the appearance of repairability because they get scammed so often by their own shit products. So you see ridiculous design choices which actually impair reliability like headphones with ear cups connected by free float 3.5mm plugs or keyboards with socketed switches.
>>
>>103272532
they don't even offer replacement earpads, the repairability on those things is less than 0, how would a double-sided cable improve things?

>>
>>103276063
>Only had the speaker fail on me but the warranty covered the fix
yeah this is another beyer quality problem
other headphones literally never get broken drivers, it just doesn't happen, drivers should (at least in theory) be pretty much indestructable
beyerdynamics are the only headphones where i keep reading about "yeah my left driver stopped working suddenly 3 years in", they even made them solderless in the new pro x models for this reason lol
I think it has to do with the fact that they have extremely low power ratings compared to most other headphones (30mW peak vs 1500+mW on most studio headphones), so if your audio card has a sudden power spike for half a second (maybe temporary short while plugging in your 3.5 jack) your driver is cooked
>>
>>103276903

Yes but that means the cable is resting on your chest and running down your side/off your lap to wherever it needs to go. A single cable just runs off to your side without ever touching you or being in the way
>>
>>103288031
You sound like a real casual when it comes to cable management. I went from a 1 wire to 2 wire headphones last year, it's no extra work because you cable tie them both up and over the headband (it's crazy how headphone companies KEEP putting the jack at the bottom, the worst place for it), and then you use your dog lead on a curtain rail to take the cable away into the sky where it will never bother you again. It's crazy to me that people can move their arms and snag on the cable and see no problem with it.
