Here in Norway the black day/week/month sale price is about $1100 usd, down from about $1600 usd

>>
>>103273891
It's the first phone since discovering the Xperia 1 II that I have had an interest in. Don't know about regular X8 footage, but the X8 Pro has put out great photos and iPhone level video. The Hasselblad collab has always seemed more appealing than Zeiss collabs and I would like to try out their exclusive filters. Lens switching during video maintains the colors and the swap is less intrusive than even on the iPhone. All of this is a very thin phone body, and the shutter touch strip that doesn't require pressing into a button seems practical.

Too bad for me I'm in NA and would have to import it. Even if I lived in one of its markets I would have to debloat with ADB Shell too.

I'm so fucking scared to get an iPhone in this day and age. it's been iPhone 4s -> Samsung S7 - Samsung S9+ and the only thing that's stopping me from 100% getting the S24 is the fact that the mini exists. Does apple still do predatory and scummy shit to their old phones via updates when new ones come out?
I refuse to get a pixel for the same reason I am scared to trust apple.
>>
>>103272221
Based. I've been using high width from dev settings for probably 2 years, and regularly use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard for my phone when in a desk environment like with what I'm doing with this post right now. Have been using those accessories since late 2018, but I haven't considered keeping only a mouse on me without also bringing a phone stand, keyboard, and small mousepad when I'm able to bring a bag. When do you use a mouse only? Isn't it inconvenient to set the mouse down and two-hand your phone to type? The next thing I want to try is setting up a gooseneck phone holder next to my bed and keep a bluetooth keyboard with a trackpad on it nearby, and if that works out I could buy a few more holders + keyboards that stay connected so I can just drop my phone in. Discovered only yesterday that logitech has a bluetooth trackpad available, and I'm considering trying it out in place of a mouse hoping for touchscreen gestures. I'm also stuck on a 1080p phone right now and can't make use of the extra space 1440p hardware would provide.

Your phone will show the wrong battery percentage if you don't charge it fully and leave it charging for like an hour after it reaches 100% once in a while since the OS has no fucking clue what your real battery level is at.

hey bros, looking for a new phone to replace my HTC U11, as its camera stopped working this week.

Which phones on the market have a robust metal frame with preferably minimum software bloat?

Only ones I found so far were the xperias, but they are quite pricey.

>>
>>103279783

>>
>>103279783
What makes this scummy is that the phones are advertised as featuring AI features, but it isn't made clear the devices themselves don't do any of it.
>>103279788
Any of it. The "draw in" features. The image generation stuff in general. It all requires sending data to the servers of Samsung or Google because the devices themselves are too anemic to handle it. And they note there's a time limit with regard to how long those services may be available. Basically the entire modern push to get people to buy new phones is cloudshit rather than improved phones.

I joke, but seriously. Consider that the point of a camera is to capture a moment. Ultra wide is a warped perspective. It's an accessory. It doesn't aid in capturing a moment. It aids in distorting a moment. Having it on basic phones is a travesty, as John Q doesn't understand the first thing about photography and may accidentally use his ultra wide lens to try and capture something like the last family gathering his 90-something year old grandmother is alive for. And everyone comes out of it looking like they were characters from that failed multiplayer shooter Brink that Bethesda published back in 2011 with faces that are both stretched and crushed at the same time. And that despoils the moment. You get a parody of the intended shot because of a misapplication and the misappropriation of the technology.
There is no use-case that justifies ultra wide being part of a standard package.

Is S23 plus still a good buy in 2024? or should I look for similar priced alternatives?
>>

Two should be the minimum. Four would be nice.

The idea that charging and using peripherals should be mutually exclusive is extremely retarded.
>>
>>103281381
Well the processor on the Pixel 8a is slightly more powerful despite still being garbage. I dunno what the price difference is. Also good if you want to run a privacy or security oriented OS like GrapheneOS, DivestOS, CalyxOS, or /e/OS.

The lack of having to run a skin on top of Android should mean improved performance, but if you are a OneUI baby duck you may not be enthused.

Also I don't own a phone at all. They're all overpriced e-waste. I'm just watching from the sidelines these days.

been hovering around trying to find a a budget upgrade to my dying redmi 8.

and now im looking at Xiaomi Poco F6 512GB 12GB
and Xiaomi Poco X6 with similar specifications

they seem to be quite similar in price. the latter just slightly more expensive then the former.

so wanted a general advice i suppose how good of a *budget* pick these two are actually?
also if its worth it to pick the more expensive one out of the two. or nah.

also also,
because of how ridiculously cheap it seems to be.
how actually shitty is Xiaomi Redmi 13C? maybe worth it?

sorry for the onslaught of uninformed questions in advance.

Xperia camera hardware is fine (Sony makes the camera hardware for most or maybe all phones out there) but the software is always shitty for some reason, and with phones like the Pro-I it almost had to be deliberate, considering what you can do with the RAWs it produces. I don't think it's because of internal competition, but it could be because they don't want to be accused by the other companies of having an unfair advantage

Wrong. The lightnning female connector is fragile, with pins inside. The female USB-C is sturdy, with just some landing pads on a PCB.

Having it where the main device has the bit most likely to fail is fucking stupid. As such, USB-C is fucking stupid. If the inner bit of the USB-C port shears off, the device is bricked. If the Lightning connector shears off, you get a pair of pliers.

I have F6 with 12/512
It just works and is super fast. Battery life is okay, gets me through the day and I have to charge in the evening again. Camera quality is also good. Gaming is great.

X6 pro is pretty much the same model but with mediatek instead of snapdragon and maybe bit worse camera.

The 13c is super ass, but for the price it's okay, I guess? At least it doesn't have an unisoc soc. With coupons and everything you can get it for around 90€ or even less. Oneplus is, and you can import Xiaomi phones. It's just Huawei is banned for stealing intellectual property from American firms like Apple. I just think it's harder to break into the American market. Apple is really entrenched there, and then you have Samsung. For the budget segment you have Motorola. You also have Google. So you have three existing players. Samsung for the premium Android experience, Samsung and Motorola for those on a budget, and Pixel for privacytroons.

Despite all previous versions being known for sucking dick, Exynos 2400 is already trading blows with SD8 Gen 2.
So, the wait argument can be made here in waiting for S25 in hopes that S25+'s Exynos is a considerable improvement over S24 Ultra's SD8 Gen 3.
And you most likely don't need the Ultra features, making the S25+ the smarter buy. Sure, SD8 Gen 4 is going to be performance king of the year, but I highly doubt you will need S25 Ultra either.
So, it is up to Samsung now to step up and turn S25+ into the cost benefit king of the year.

What's the best way to share files between my phone and windows/linux without having to make an account?
For whatever reason I cannot just plug the phone in like I used to.

Install the drivers for your device from the official google page. I used to use syncthing, but it's slow as fuck. Localsend is shit and cannot bypass work in a 2NAT/VLAN environments. I'm using tailscale send/Signal with a throwaway account. Between the PCs, i use croc.

My oneplus 8t has to go, it's battery is starting to die very quickly and the back glass is broken.
I'm looking at the oneplus 12 right now for $500
I heard that the 8 gen 3 isn't the best though and the 8 elite is much better.
My other options right now are the pixel 9 pro/xl for $1k, s24 ultra for $1300.
Camera is pretty important to me but the samsung has the same chip as the one plus at over twice the price. On the other hand I assume the oneplus 12 is so cheap because the 13 just came out.
Do I wait a bit longer to get an 8 elite or what would you guys do?
I was looking at iphones but they don't have a back button which is pretty much a deal breaker.

>>trying to save some money is braindead consumerism
How exactly are you saving money when you care about resale value? That means you wanna sell your phone within 2-3 years which means you gonna buy a new phone way before the phone is unusable. If you truly care about saving money you would get a new battery for your phone instead but nice try.

>headphone jack
nice meme, but what's the amp power also it's almost 2025 and people use 4.4 by default with wires, at home, and tws on the go.
>>
Is building your own smartphone viable in current year or am I still better off just going with a prebuilt?
>>
Are the nothing phones bad?
They are well priced...
>>
>>103289238
Get a Pixel instead
>>
>>103289238
buy s24.
>>
>>103288970
The components are still quite overpriced for what they are but like with PCs, you can completely customize to your needs. Everyone crying about headphone jacks should logically be going this route but as it always is with normals, they always just want prebuilt and not worry about it.
>>
>>103289238
Nothing good about them. Buy a Pixel if you want freedom, buy a Samsung if you want goyslop.
>>
>>103289407
Because using the usb type c port for wired audio would add to the wear and tear of the port. It should just be exclusive for data transfer and charging.
There's a reason gaming phones like Redmagics and Rogs keep the wired audio. Wireless has delays.
>>
>>103289490
True. That's why chads use wireless DACs.
>>
>>103271749
>>103271808
No seamless updoots for the S24 family lineup. Which exists for the Galaxy A55 and the upcoming S25 series.
>>
>>103289490
>Wireless has delays.

Players can manipulate the delay. Competitive gaming on a phone is retarded to begin with, but there are low latency codecs and it's impossible to distinguish between the two.
>>
>>103289490
And exactly why you're being labeled a retarded normal. Why not just build your phone? Add as many jacks as you want. You keep crying because you're too dunb to build a phone for your usecase.

I don't chase stupid features like a headphone jack. I have no need for a custom phone, unlike you who feels the itch to feel special and be too dumb to be so at the same time.
>>
>>103289490
Why not charge wirelessly then?

If you have plenty of money you might as well get the S24 Ultra. Otherwise get the Oneplus 12. You will only feel the difference between 8 gen 3 and 8 elite if you play games like genshit.

Which phone would you guys recommend? It needs to have sim + esim, some water resistance and a nicer camera, no iphones or huawei/xiaomi, location: EU. I have been thinking of Samsung A55 (385 euros with charger), then saw Sony Xperia 10 VI (300e) and 1 VI (1000e), Samsung S24/S24+ (650/800e), Google Pixiv 8 pro (850e) and now I cannot make up my mind, but don't want to spend more than 700 euros unless it's really worth it. Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

I live in a third world asian shithole, it's not supported here...

>Wireless has too much latency for games.

This hasn't been true for a long time. Maybe in like, 2010s when bluetooth headphones were still relatively new, but sound quality and latency are pretty much on par with wired options in the year of our lord 2025.

I was very resistant at first as well, but once I got used to wireless earbuds I'd hate to go back to needing a shitty wire to get caught on things

I actually have one and it works snappy af, have zero issues and constantly getting asked about it in public. Pic related, typed this out on my cover screen.
