I don't see any problems with Ubuntu and Snaps. A distro that is maintained by a company seems reliable and professional to me. What really is the problem with Ubuntu?
>>
>>103295012
If they were competent thay would continue upstart and unity.
But they gave up, and now red hat took lead.
>>
>>103295012
Canonical has a history of taking decisions clearly trying to shape the world of Linux and failing. RH does the same but unfortunately they actually succeed.
On the snap situation, no one at first like the idea of flatpak and snaps, no one wanted ANOTHER packaging format, but they did push snap a lot and now are forcing it even more.
Canonical needs a better PR.
>>
>>103295079
This. We already have Flatpaks and AppImages, which work slightly differently but are at least widely supported. Snaps are the third solution that no one asked for and no one uses outside Ubuntu.
The exact same thing happened with Upstart, Mir, and probably a dozen other projects I don't remember off the top of my head.
>>
>>103295012
You don't see the issue with spyware on Linux? Are you stupid or something?
>>
>>103295313
I used to use snap when prusa slicer for some absolutely fucktarded reason didn't have a flatpak. It was the only reason I ever had snaps running on my PC.
>>
>>103295012
>I don't see any problems with Ubuntu
because you are posting screenshots of your tablet
>>
>>103295012
GNOME.
>>
>>103295373
Wayland too. I don't understand why freetards put up with it.
>>
>>103295012
Why does GNOME seem like it was made with very obese tablet users in mind?
Why can't the UI be sleek and normal sized?
Why does it have to be touch compliant and ugly?
>>
>>103295779
I'm guessing is one of those times when someone who makes decisions has some personal preference that turns out to be a gimmick.
>>
Woke distro
>>
>>103295012
snaps and ubango are more schizophrenic than arch and i3wm/sway.

it's not 2012 anymore when ubango unity (or mate or xfce) was the only sane choice.

there is a twitch streamer who insists on a SUPPORTED(TM) distro (kubango) then mumbles and sighs at ubango and kde and snaps whenever those things do something stupid
>>
>>103295779
because in 2009 or whatever the ios and "apps" in general were very trendy and cargoculting a company that has budget for actual ux research is trendy

you will never met a person in real life that uses gnome desktop or knows what it is, no one uses it voluntarily
>>
>>103296240
>no one uses it voluntarily
don't tell me you are talking about linux
>>
>>103295012
It's too mainstream for people who base their ego and personality around elitism over what brand of toaster they have.
>>
snaps are shit
just keep giving me .debs
>>
>>103295012
They're just there to provide you the false choice between pepsi and coke of the linux distro world. You are free to go through the DEI page of either one.
>>
A company running something like a distribution of Linux sounds OK until the company also runs the snap store where ALL your software comes from.
>>
>>103295012
Such a corpo-cuckoldry is exactly what i expect from Ubuntu users.
>>
Your software should come from whoever wrote the best software.

Remember when 17.10 just fucked with laptop BIOSes...
>>
Is there a distro that 'just werks' without being absolutely pozzed?
>>
>>103297761
Also there were ads in the search.
Also when I ssh to the Ubuntu server it spams me to buy Pro, ESM and some Kubernetes shit...
>>
>>103297804
No. Too many different use cases.
>>
>>103297847
Just werks as a windows replacement for applying for jobs and watching porn

Mint is both Linux on ez mode and uncucked *buntu. If you prefer a low update volume, they also have a Debian Edition, which of course is based directly on Debian, rather than by way of *buntu.
EndeavourOS also just werks, but there's Arch under the hood. So maybe best enjoyed if you've already installed Arch before.

>for applying for jobs and watching porn
Any distro that has the latest version of a browser. And since Firefox offers their own deb repo, it's probably better to use any major Debian based distro. So Debian, Ubuntu or Mint.
>>
>>103295012
The issue with snaps is that many are 3rd party and thus are buggy. Steam as snap installs, okay. But none of the games you install would launch because the mantainer (who is not Valve) fucked something up.
>>
>>103297804
Mint is run by a /pol/ type guy.
System76 is in Colorado but they don't seem to have a diversity policy or anything like that.

System76 is a hardware manufacturer. Their Pop_OS spiel is to promote their laptops.

i like how the linux discussions here revolve around trivial things like the dock and icons
