I run a fairly large site and only make like $400 a day from adsense. Pic related is Linus Tech Tips dashboard. He's only making 300k a month from youtube ads. Also though, he sells merchandise and does sponsorships and still manages to pay 100+ employees.Can you really get rich, solely running ads?

You run a tech channel? why not also a car channel, a tech news channel, a tech politics channel, anything you're remotely interested in, make it into a channel and sell merch and run ads on all of them. That's why I think he got successful in teh first place: He just started to whore out anything his employees were remotely interested in because that may be 300K a month on the LTT channel, then the techlinked and other channels are also making 300K a month.
I've never bought anything because of an ad before. Either ad companies have been wasting billions of dollars all this time or the average person is substantially more stupid and influenceable than I am.
