It's not that Linux is "hard", it's that it's tedious and a waste of time.
>buy a Macbook
>get a preinstalled operating system that just werks
>doesn't fault
>has everything I will ever need already preinstalled for me
>if I want to install other things, they just werk
But with Linux, it's always "drivers start bugging out with some functionalities so you gotta roll back to a previous driver / spend hours troubleshooting" or "so now an update broke the program you were using, so now you gotta spend hours trying to find a workaround in a config file located in some hidden file location". I don't have time for that. Every minute spent troubleshooting my install is one less minute I can spend actually being productive and enjoying my life. I don't mind using the terminal, in fact I use it to automate many of my tasks. But why would I enjoy wasting my time troubleshooting?

It's just a waste of time and what am I getting out of it?
>a slower, buggier, more crash-prone system
>no professional software
>no actual warranty or support if linux decides to break my install one day
>have to wait literal years of my life to see new cutting edge features that get put into MacOS every year never make it into linux

Why would I put up with this? So I can post fetch screenshots? So I can LARP as Mr. Robot when my kernel is developed by a literal PRISM member?
It feels like Linux is one big joke. Linux users create memes to brainwash people into believing there's a point to using their faulty OS, then they offer the faulty OS as a solution.

it used to be great, back when i had dialup i ordered debian cd's in the mail and everything did "just work". Updates were small and reliable, overhead compared to windows was great, and I was using a system with 512mb ram until the flashpocalypse. Could not get debian to work correctly on an A1502, tried again when i upgraded to a ryzen powered hp, still a bunch of fucking problems with no solutions. Tried to install debian on a 7490, didnt have iwlwifi package and didnt detect the ethernet adapter, so the install decided not to install the entire fucking network stack. Debian is supposed to be *the* 'it just works' operating system, this is unacceptable, and gnome/kde are fatter than windows when you finish stripping an ltsc install. It's a fucking headache and the community has done everything to turn new users away. The 'year of linux' is another decade away every year at this rate.

>>has everything I will ever need already preinstalled for me
ok NPC-tier basic user.

OP is a faggot because he can't pick a proper distro and whines about drivers.
>>
>whole post is clearly either applel shill or skill issue
I've been using Linux for 30 years and the majority of the issues people parrot on this board outside of /FLGT/ is shit that hasn't been true in nearly a decade.

e.g. >arch breaks
no. it doesn't. did it break back in like 2015? sometimes. it was on the user to check the news on the arch website because on occasion a specific file would need to be deleted manually for package upgrades to work properly, and this was entirely because automating that kind of task could lead to the wrong files being deleted. sometimes, if a user didn't update their repos as part of the upgrade process they'd end up pulling a gpu driver that's new, but not the kernel update necessary for the gpu driver to work and Xorg would break. back before UEFI, grub updates would sometimes fail. none of these issues are problems today.

>desktop tearing, GPU drivers hard to install, etc
usually the tearing is fixed by adding a compositor, and GPU driver installation has never been easier. these were issues 10+ years ago

>text looks awful
not anymore it doesn't. if your text looks shitty, you did something yourself to fuck it up. almost every distro has a sane fontconfig setup by default now.

most distros come with an "app store" gui so installing software is a breeze.

tl;dr unless you're a ricerfag or use a stupid meme distro with a retarded wm instead of a decent DE with sane default settings, running desktop Linux is barely any different than running Windows or macOS, except for the fact that Linux is more versatile and CAN do so much more than the alternatives.

>drivers start bugging out with some functionalities so you gotta roll back to a previous driver
This is mostly a Windows issue. Almost never happens on Linux (unless you use Nvidia, but even then, it's still relatively rare). Never happens on Macs.

>an update broke the program you were using, so now you gotta spend hours trying to find a workaround in a config file
Yet another predominantly Windows issue. Though it can occasionally happen on Linux and Macs, it happens orders of magnitude more on Windows.

>Every minute spent troubleshooting my install
This is a non issue on the vast majority of non-rolling release distributions, so long as you don't make retarded changes to your system (the same goes for Windows and Mac OS).

>slower, buggier, more crash-prone system
Most Linux distributions offer significantly better performance than Windows and Mac OS.

>no professional software
This is an idiotic and overly broad statement. Lots of "professional" software runs just fine on Linux.

I use a Mac for work programming, windows for games, and Linux for personal programming.

All 3 OS's will randomly shit the bed in some mild to moderate way for no apparent reason.

The main difference for me is that with Linux I can typically figure out and fix the issue. With windows or macOS you just have to hope rebooting enough fixes it.

You think you're being funny with your bait post but you're mostly right. As a senior dev you're either autistic or poor if you aren't using a Mac still.
Not to say you should swear off Linux entirely. Knowing how to navigate it increases your value on the job market. Except for window management, customization, or anything outside the way my grandma would use a computer.

Now lets ask the mac fanboys how to solve this issue:
I need to run an app with an argument, always, and I want to launch that app from the dock yet I don't want to have 2 icons for the same app and the solution needs to survive updates.
Have fun trying to solve this on macos.

PS. On kde it's done with right click over an application and adding the argument on the edit app dialog and on windows is the same but on the properties dialog.

I find it hard to daily drive Linux but the fact that you think people use it for "cool points" is very telling. Linux just werks (better) for developers.

Even without gaming, which is most of why I keep using Windows as main, Linux just lacks compatibility with a lot of hardware because of software that the manufacturer bundles in. Whenever I see that a product comes with software controls, I almost always expect that it is for Windows/Mac only. Besides that, there are a few quirks here and there that I find myself not having to deal with on Windows (because it just werks), that said, you are clearly exaggerating for attention, or just lack knowledge of actually using Linux. It really ain't bad at all.
