Here's the paste from the previous thread, because OP doesn't know how to use the archive:

FAQ:
>Do I need a—
No. You don't "need" headphones or any of the electronics that support them.

Recommended closed back headphones:
• Beyer DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm (bright V) - $140
Honorable mentions:
• Takstar Pro 82 (darker V, chinkshit) - $60
• Senn HD 569 (dark V) - $100
• AKG K361/K371 (neutral V, build quality not great) - $105/$170
• Beyer DT 700 Pro X (bright V) - $250
• E-MU Teak (bright V) - $450
• DCA Stealth (neutral V) - $4000

Recommended open back headphones:
• Philips Fidelio X2 (bright V) - $160
• Senn HD 560S (neutral treble, flat bass) - $150
• DT 900 PRO X (bright, flat bass) - $250
Honorable mentions:
• Superlux HD668B/681 (bright V, chinkshit) - $35
• Hifiman HE400se/Sundara (neutral treble, flat bass) - $110+
• Senn HD 600/650/6XX (neutral but partly veiled treble, flat bass) - $240+
• DCA Expanse (neutral V) - $4000

Recommended gaming headsets:
• A good headphone paired with a mic
• Beyer MMX 300 (bright V, same as DT 770) - $230
Honorable mentions:
• HyperX Cloud II (bright V) - $80
• CM MH751/752 (neutral V) - $75

Recommended DAC/amp:
• Meizu HiFi / HiFi Pro Adapter - $15/$35 (you probably don't need more than this)
Honorable mentions:
• Topping DX1 - $100
• Topping DX3 Pro+ - $200
• SMSL C200 - $200
• FiiO K7 - $200
• RME ADI-2 (many DSP features) - $1200

There's a lot that can go wrong with motherboard audio, and nobody does serious tests on them very often.

>>103466344
The general kneejerk answer on g is anti-buying things, anti-having money, and an audiophile is like the foulest confluence of those. Therefore the audiophile answer is automatically wrong even when it's objectively correct.
>>
>>103466255
i noticed some motherboard or monitor with audio out have high output impedance which affect the sound (grado turning into a mid-bass cannon)
you can try A/B test with a 5$ dongle against your k7

You're dumb!
>>
>>103466394
If you mentioned that board specifically most people here would've told you it's not good because using aluminum electrolytic type caps for decoupling always colors sound. ALC1220, 4080, ... have a differential output front channel which is decoupled with 4 op-amps, and that can be good enough for a lot of headphones. Assuming the mfg doesn't drop the ball somehow, which they often do.

>>103466683
Imagine being so worried what other people think that you pay extra to not have gamer trim on your motherboard.
>>
>>103466448
Doesn't perform well if you turn the volume down. It's a great DAC though.

Pretty much no. But you can always EQ, in which case just get something cheap and with graphs available like the Soundcore Q-whatevers
>>
>>103469275
You don't need one. But if you still want one for placebo, then sure that is a good choice at that price.

Are the koss porta pros worth it? Or do I look for something else? Also read somewhere that the beige variant sounds better (?), so any inputs on that?
>>
>>103470167
No, they're shit. They are on ears, so they hurt your ears
the cable is not detachable, the lenghts only convenient for mobile
they are horrible to put on becausee of the headband that springs into itself

What exactly is the budget range and usecase?
>>
>>103470167
They're alright if you want foamy on-ear headhones, but they need EQ. Everything you can get around that price is going to be deeply flawed somehow.

I got a pair of sony wh-1000xm5 I got for free with my phone, I was meaning to sell them but I kinda forgot and honestly can't be arsed to do it, it's been a few months now.
Are they worth keeping? For now they're in the sealed box so I'm on the fence if I want to open them or try to sell them as new instead.
I doubt I'd use them outside much since I have IEMs for that, so noise cancellation isn't much of a factor. I'm willing to EQ.

fiio ft1 is probably your best bet, not nigbass territory but at least not bass deficient out of the box
k371 technically has more bass but I'd take the fiio over them

Recommandations for a wired closed back headphone with not bad noise isolation?
I have the sennheiser hd-25 and I like their sound and lightness but I have noisy neighbours and I can hear them when there is no sound playing.
>>
>>103472869
the sennheiser hd-25 already have pretty good sound isolation, it's one of its strenghts
probably you need anc, there are headphones that have slightly better noise isolation (sennheiser hd 620s/dt 700 pro x/dt 770 pro w/pleather pads), but that wouldn't make a noticeable improvement, it's a 5dB difference at best

I just got a Fiio JT1, overall it's nice but I'm having an issue connecting it to my Scarlett interface, the cable that came with the headphone has 3 contact rings on the plug because of the mic but my 6.3 adapter has 2, so the audio is this weird mono, however when I press the microphone button, the audio is fine, is there any way I can somehow disable the microphone in this cable? or maybe just keep the microphone always active?

They don't but the area surrounding the ear is also affected. Behind my right ear there's a large protruding mound of I guess surgical shit, threads, scar tissue, I don't know. I can wear any headphones but it starts to hurt after about 5 minutes and gradually gets worse the longer I wear them.

2. Headphones without headbands like ksc75

4. IEMs

I bought them a year ago, had an extremely good experience overall, i just had to resolder the cables int he left cup and readjust the balance trough eq. If you like a wide soundstage and fiddling with eq setting they are a very good option.

Was browsing niche beyer offerings last night and I discovered this living fossil- DT 150. From the first look it seems like something made in 60s and a little reasearch revealed that thats exactly when it was released. 1960s. Still produced.

So my question is..why?

I agree 100%. Still kinda weird that headphone technology is so stagnant that great product from 60 years ago is still marginaly relevant. Imagine something like that hapening in any other industry.

just bought them a few days ago, after using DT 880 for 10+ years
they are ok, but i wasnt impressed in the slightest - i guess i got used to my old headphones, and expected more from K702
the ear cups are very big, so my ears are completely inside the cups - that feels fine
pretty light, and i dont feel the top strap at all - all the pressure is on the ear pads
i like the ability to unplug the wire
as to sound - i dont have any data or analysis to present, just my subjective opinion
all the tracks that gave me goosebumps with DT880, sound boring using K702
i have read the reviews prior to buying, so i was aware of low bass levels, but thats just too little bass for my liking
i will keep them for gaming and youtube, but need to look for something else for music

I had the Muses MK II of your Xonar and the RME ADI-2 DAC FS was my upgrade from that a few years back.
This would fit with single unit, driving the HD800 and 2 XLRs (also used mine with monitors too). Also has sound tuning features too.

Main drawback is the price and there are likely more better options now (more likely a separate DAC and headphone amp rather than a single unit) at the price point of the RME.

Well, Sonova now owns the classic audiophile Sennheiser Tullamore factory in Ireland with all the OG tooling and transducer tech. The Pro side owns the Romanian/Chinese factory.

But a few cosmetic things have changed...
They've changed the paint job from the kitchen countertop texture to the new actual style and the edge design of the yoke is sharper.
The head padding changed from 4 nugget-style to the actual curved foam.
The OEM of the earpads also changed and there's like a minor difference in the bass SPL and geometry if you had the old model you'd know https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/new-sennheiser-pads-measured.24845/

Anything can make use of it. Just buy a 4.4mm plug and solder it on. Even throwaway earbuds are biwired all the way down to the plug these days. All balanced does is trade 6dB extra volume for double the output impedance. The cable run from the amp to your headphones isn't long enough for differential transmission to matter.

A differential amplifier will cancel out common-mode noise, but a DAC with balanced outputs is usually gonna be pretty good for USB isolation anyway.
Amplifying the positive and negative terminals of your headphones individually does fuck all for noise reduction.
>>
>>103524172
Yeah amps that take differential input with SE output also don't have issues, but it seems some combo units just take an unbalanced signal from the DAC for the SE amplifier section.

Yes, this is retarded. And can you even hear 20 kHz?
>>

It's a dynamic driver so he'll hear the distortion at least.

i want to try the stax meme but it's like $500 and 0 resell value

When people say "flat bass", they mean flat. bass.
It's really not that hard to understand.
>>
>>103526511
>actually your definition is wrong because i dont understand audio
that's sub bass retard

this is probably comparable to my HD6xx for half the price i need to shill it more
>>

You're actually genuinely retarded

Ok but why can't review sites measure it either?
>>
>>103526861
nta but it's not that they can't, they just don't bother
also it's extremely variable, depending on what the device is connected to
>>
>>103526940
You can't hear -83dB retard.
>>
>>103526979
it's noise, depending on gain you absolutely can

why is that shit so expensive hnnnng

more like it's cheap to make but it has low economy of scale because it's just some ruski in china buying shit off markets

>OMG LUL!!!! ackchyually the HD 600 doesn't have flat bass because it drops off below what is by literal definition considered bass in a range that is close to being inaudible
>90% headphones also drop off there and don't perform well in it
>'sub-bass heads' and bass heads alike still wouldn't be interested in a headphones with a perfectly flat low end anyway

God damn, so what ham-fisted point is retarded-anon even trying to make? The reason the old OP has lasted so long despite being outdated is because the people who have tried to replace it have largely been stupid, ignorant, and biased, so they end up making something worse and it fails to gain traction.
>>
>>103527308
bass is literally defined as E2-E4 you fucking imbecile and SUB bass implies it's BELOW BASS therefore NOT bass you have like 30 iq if you cant grasp this
>>
>>103527379
The post you are replying to agrees with the contention that sub bass is below bass by definition.
>>
>>103527061
Why would you put 20dB gain on an analog line out when the signal is available as digital? That's fucking stupid.

why do you need to set pre amp -8 instead of just checking the "prevent clicking" box?

It's -8 because of the "prevent clipping" box, it moves it down automatically
I moved everything down so I can keep it at 0

I need to stop fucking around with this
Is this /hpg/ approved?
>>
>>103528151
well you would have to get a headphone measuring rig, then see if the EQ actually makes it neutral
otherwise its just noise
>>
>>103528163
you are a fucking reta rd
>>
>>103528163
I guess I don't care about that
All I know is, if I turn it off, music sounds like shit, if I turn it on it sounds good
I'm kind of scared of going down an OCD rabbit hole of "perfect", whatever that is
>>
>>103528183
the best alternative is just using an EQ made by someone with a measuring rig
>>
>>103528191
I tried those, but it sounds "muffled", like I'm listening to music in another room
That's why I feel like I'm crazy
>>
>>103528210
could just be that your previous headphones trained you incorrectly
like just listen to different music
