Why aren't there any open source alternatives to Discord that can even allow you to host your own server? Does Discord really not have any competition?

This selfie verification is only for users that were banned for being under 13 so they can appeal their ban either because they're 13 now or they were just joking that they were younger and someone reported them. As far as i know you only need your account to be set as 18+ to view nsfw marked channels. Usually Discord only wants your phone number and only when they feel like you're suspicious, making many accounts etc.

Rocketchat. You can self host instances and while it's not FOSS and what not, you at least can give yourself control and it's reasonably functional. It's a slack clone not a discord clone though. I need to try hosting teamspeak since it's basically the only one I haven't tried yet.
