I have to do some tests on them but they seem pretty good for the price desu, very low latency, high durability and fast enough for most stuff.

>11x faster on paper
>only 0.33x faster due to software overhead anecdotally, even less if averaged out in multitudes
>even less gains the more granular the loading process
all i gather from this is you dont have much ram to cache with

and what terrible games are you playing that rely so heavily on loading shit from drive on the fly that you notice stutters? could even be placebo honestly

personally i barely noticed much at all when i changed from sata to nvme. maybe a 5-20% gain in general load times depending on the application, nothing to write home about, and certainly not in the 3x speeds let alone 10x speeds range. with am5 it matters even less because the bottleneck is the POST time even with memory context restore on with any decent amount of ram. its not like it matters though, i only reboot my pc once every few months when i make a coffee or have a shower or something
>>
>>103537094
>on paper
No, real life. I have 32GB of RAM. Caching is useless with the random read speeds and IOPS of modern NVMe SSDs.

>and what terrible games are you playing that rely so heavily on loading shit from drive on the fly that you notice stutters? could even be placebo honestly
Modern slop.

>and certainly not in the 3x speeds let alone 10x speeds range.
You can literally watch dozens of YouTube videos comparing SATA SSDs v.s. NVMe SSDs with DS, it's literally 1 seconds vs 10 seconds.

Intel Arc A770 16gb Roc

Sliger CX3151a 3u Case
I shouldvd gone with a 17in deep case, but I have a shallow rack in purpise for space reasons, and am too prideful to drop more money so frivolously.

What kind of AIO is that? It looks like a "real" custom loop block.

I'm considering getting a single Alphacool 120 mm, the hose parts and the Eisbär AIO to make a loop with the Eiswolf GPU cooler.

120 + 280 + 360 would be the radiator size

Do you think its worth it? It would have two weaker pumps then instead of a single one, but I like the concept of easy installation and low risk of leakage due to the prefabricated hoses.

Yeah, basically the only usable OS. Last I used it, it was surprisingly fine, most stuff just worked, with some odd glitches (some video decoders didn't respect endianness, producing visual garbage) or unsupported features (like JIT in browser JavaScript engines, making some websites absolutely unusable and choking the CPU with purely interpreted JS). There were some patches for Chrome that made it mostly work, but it certainly doesn't have a fully out-of-the-box just-works experience. I used Void on it, the main ppc64le ports maintainer used Void. He's since hopped to some other distro, and the ppc64le repo was unmaintained for a while, meaning no updates to software that needs patches to run.

Due to lack of time, it's been waiting to find its use again. Either way, it was very fun to tinker with, felt a bit like back in the late 90s trying to put together a workable system.

I have one of those tuner cards sitting in my parts box too. Thing is that I've since moved and I now can't get any reception for anything, and it's a condo so I can't just put up a 40-foot antenna. My parents watch a ton of TV and are baffled and dismayed by my not having it, and have offered several times to pay for me to get cable. But one, paying for television offends my sensibilities, and two, I'm pretty sure cable providers don't let you just plug in a card and record anything you care to with no DRM.

I run a blue air 203 in every room, with a charcoal pre filter.
https://www.blueair.com/us/refurbished-air-purifiers/classic-203-slim/1422.html

The most cost efficient air filter is a box fan and cardboard + full size return filters. For about 40 bucks you can build a pretty good air filter if you don't care about noise.

AE5 crushes the Xonar series in both audio quality and features. The DAC on the AE5 is pretty much what you will find on similar price USB DAC's:
>ESS9016K2M
And it has excellent filtering. Uses a mixture of film, electrolytic, and solid. The headphone amplifier is also REALLY good. Easily powers 600ohms cans, passes through the same ESS9016K2M, and each channel is independently powered up to 600ohms. So its not shared. Full power for both. You can also have both speakers and headphones plugged in at the same time and switch between the two via software. This works wonderfully in Linux. I have both my cans and speakers hooked up. You can also turn off the soundcore post processing of audio in Linux as well. Pretty much everything that works in Windows, works in Linux.

The Xonar ST/X is better sound quality wise as its competitors would be the AE7 and AE9. Technically the AE7 does work, but it has to be release day versions and not everything is supported. Creative themselves only released open source drivers up to the AE5. AE7 was never complete and mostly community made but work as pretty much stopped because later revisions of the AE7 don't work under Linux due to its revised PCI to PCI-Express bridge being incompatible with Linux.

But the AE5 has better features than the Xonar ST/X series.

>>
>>103576756
>>103576767
There is also a bonus to using the AE5 under Linux than Windows is that you can set the sample rate higher than 96KHZ while having the SoundCore processing enabled. On Windows, Creative artificially limits you to 96KHZ IF you have SoundCore processing enabled. You have to disable it by enabling "direct sound" in Windows to use anything higher. On Linux, the Creative open source driver doesn't have this limitation so you can have SoundCore processing enabled and set the sameple rate all the way up to 384KHZ.
And with PipeWire, you can go one step further and configure PipeWire to change sample rate on the fly to match the audio source for perfect sound and no resampling ever being done: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PipeWire#Changing_the_allowed_sample_rate(s)

SoundCore is the DSP on Creative cards. It can act as a DAC (so you don't need a dedicated hardware DAC, like found on the first generation SoundCore Recon cards from Creative that only had the SoundCore DSP), do audio processing, sound effects, hardware based equalizer, handles input devices (like microphone), input effects (like changing your voice), hardware based speaker configuration (like 5.1, bookshelf speakers, etc) and routing sound output into input (routes audio to your speakers to your microphone in say Discord via the "What U Hear" feature in ALSA in Linux and in Windows.
>>
>>103577235

indeed they can. the benefit is taking a small load off the cpu to the sound card itself.
>>
>>103577327
Well, unfortunately offloading audio processing off the CPU is no longer an argument since these are WAY powerful. They already were powerful enough back in the Core2 days, imagine now.
>>
>>103577372
I agree its not that big of a benefit. I'm stating it is a small benefit. It doesn't hurt you if you have hardware based.
>>
>>103577420
Fair enough.
Don't forget that even if your card supports many hardware functions, audio mixing is still done in software on Linux unless you fully remove Pulseaudio/Pipewire.

Which if I'm not mistaken, X-Fi and newer cards do not support hardware mixing on Linux, only 10kx cards like Live! and Audigy (non-LE/Fx)

does the job. Bought it in the early 2010's because my old surround hifi system for my tv only had coax in and needed compressed 5.1 with dts live.
Will be retired around christmas though because I have a thunderbolt display and want to hear audio over my speakers when using the laptop, so the speaker amp needs to be plugged into the monitor. Because of that I bought a wondom JAB 4 amp with 4 channels and built in DSP, so my bookshelf speakers on the desk will be modded to fully active and the board still has a subwoofer output. Full room correction is possible.
Also the dsx has some noise when playing games at higher refresh rates, despite using a galvanic isolator.

if you have pets there really isn't anything you can do about the dust because the dust really isn't dist. its pet dander.
the only way to prevent pet dander from collecting is by slapping a hepa filter on your intakes and that isn't practical and would kill thermals because you would need leaf blower loud fans to create enough vortex to pull through the hepa.

also, placing an air filter near the computer will reduce, but still won't prevent pet dander. as the air filter would have to have a strong enough vortex and most don't. and if they did, then your intake on your computer would be starved.

t. cat and dog owner of 20 years that has a winix air filter (true hepa + carbon filter + mesh screen) 1 foot away from my computer and pet dander still gets in. along with dust. it just reduces the amount. i can go longer between cleaning intervals.

I figured 10-15 years ago we'd have made advancements in efficiency and performance that cards would be half the size, draw less power and probably do 4k@60. I was very very very wrong. We've gone backwards in so many ways.

i also miss inverted cases. it made water cooling really fun because it was super easy to make your own custom "aio." pic related.
>>
>>103580452
>Bulldozer is kinda dated though
It really is, I still love it as a retro rig, and I kept coping like I was gonna run Windows 7 and an FX-8350 forever but eventually I couldn't get support, and I was just missing out on newer better hardware, becoming a linusfag has at least got me into hardware again because I can at least run it, I was so deluded that I was literally saying no to hardware that went more than twice as fast and used half the energy when they came out because you couldn't easily put Windows 7 on it.

>>103580490
>We've gone backwards in so many ways
We really have, I remember in 2014 budget builds were amazing, the 750Ti was a real breakthrough in cards, you could throw it in any computer without even a power connector and have a 1080p gaming rig because things were getting smaller and smaller, but we've kinda hit an efficiency wall, so now cards are huge.

No it wasn't man, it's got TIM like the 4770K as well. The only thing that set the 4790K apart from the 4770K was better binning and an 500 MHz base, 600 MHz Boost OC from the factory. Other than that the 4790K was literally a rebranded 4770K.

You don't develop intersec after birth, it's a genetic defect. Born neither, but leaning more towards male, surgically assigned/corrected male.
>>103581287
Declawing a cat is awful, it's cutting off the ends of their digits and I don't think it should ever be done.

Cars are just fun.

I also don't know, she was an owner surrender that was labeled as aggressive and temperamental, and sat in adopted for months. I asked to see her, and she just walked over and flopped on my lap. Instantly adopted her.

I have tits. I often pass as a woman due to my stature, proportion, speech patterns and mannerisms. I also am on HRT ( E ), but I am not a tranny, I am just exceptionally faggy. have an older gut photo.
