>T450 - T460: significantly less thick
Cute how this mistake from last year is still in the OP. Both T450-T460 and T460-T470 cut about 1 mm of thickness each. The bigger change was from T460-T470 with lighter weight, thinner keyboard, USB-C, DDR4, and the retarded wear-based discharge order.

It is a reused T14p chassis from the chinese market.

>DDR4
T460 had DDR4, and it was a big jump in CPU since it was the first generation of Skylake. But you're right that there wasn't much difference in thickness.

anon who ordered the 175€ i7 T480 last thread here, thought I'd give an update
I received the laptop 30 minutes ago. specs are almost as advertised, with a single exception: it wasn't mentioned anywhere on the listing, but I received the model with the Nvidia GPU inside. doesn't matter to me as I'll disable it anyway, but that's extremely cheap for a dGPU model
keyboard is an original LiteOn backlit, the best I could get basically. screen bezel frame I'm a bit bothered about since I got the one with the IR sensor on it and without the slider to hide the camera. I'll have to see if my other T480's bezel fits but I think it's slightly damaged and has one or two clips missing I believe. was about to start swapping the parts with my i5 so I'll see
it came with only one battery (as advertised) but it's the internal one that's missing, kinda sucks since that's the one I don't a spare for. I'll order one later. external one didn't seem to charge when I quickly tested it but I have spared anyway
came with a single 16GB RAM stick (thought it'd be 2x8), no big deal though, that stick will go into the i5 and I probably have an identical one to pair with somewhere. SSD is NVMe, good. laptop is in good external shape, was very slightly dirty but nothing too bad. screen seems to be the stock panel and has a couple small white dots on it, no big deal since it'll be swapped for my A485's pristine display when its upgrade arrives. BIOS seems older so I'll update that

Is there any way to tell if this X280 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/127360491356) is HD or FHD screen? The seller didn't include that info.
>>
>>106532104
the chinkpad...
>>
>>106532630
The photo with the screen shining on the keyboard shows TN-like discoloration and only HD screens were TN
>>
>>106532419
T460 for whatever reason still used DDR3L while X260 was DDR4 but in single channel so it performed like DDR3 in dual channel lol
>>
>>106532630
>$190 for 8/256
What the fuck
For this money I can get 16/512 with Full HD IPS diplay where I live. Don't go for X280 though, it features soldered RAM, 8GB was dead on arrival. If you need 12" then look for 16GB model. Preferably go for T480 or X270 if you don't mind dual core CPU. I use i5-7200U in my T470 as daily PC and it's pretty good.
>>
>>106533346
I'm looking for quad core (8th gen) in compact form factor, so both X270 (dual core) and T480 (too bulky) wouldn't work. All RAM is soldered these days so I don't really care about that. And I can't find a 16GB model that doesn't have a fingerprint reader (I know that sounds weird but I hate those).

Anyone with a Lunar Lake ThinkPad?
228V 258V 268V
U or H are not Lunar Lake.
How is it?
>>
>>106533663
>nooooooo, you can't talk about Thinkpads on the Thinkpad thread!!!!
>>
>>106532524
so how hot is that i7 on idle? I've heard older chinkpads with i7's were all overheating
>>
>>106537096
at idle, surprisingly not very. barely a couple degrees over the i5. the i5 would stay at 47-50 with a low load, the i7 bounces between 49-52 or so. it's the dGPU model so it has the dual pipe cooler but so did the i5 (without dGPU though, just the cooler). battery life seems to have taken a roughly 20-25% hit, not sure if I should blame that on the i7 or if the Nvidia GPU still uses some power even if I seemingly disabled it (with udev rules so in theory it should be completely off, fastfetch still detects it though for some reason)
>>
>>106537096
>>106537179
oh, and worth keeping in mind I haven't updated the BIOS yet (it's running a pretty old one from 2018). maybe there's an option to disable the dGPU in newer versions, that I'll have to check when I update it, likely tonight or tomorrow
>>
>>106537378
I have both i5 and i7 non-dGPU and don't notice a difference when they idle
>maybe there's an option to disable the dGPU in newer versions
hahaha no
>>
>>106538242
yeah kek, I just updated and no such option sadly. I mean I was on BIOS 1.18 before, I read the changelogs since and there's been some battery optimization since, I'm already noticing it's closer to my i5 when I unplug it now, still slightly lower but not as much. looks like it was just a BIOS issue I was having
my mom's gonna inherit my i5 soon (without the mods since I transferred them over to the i7, since I got a dGPU model she gets to keep the dual pipe cooler kek, unless I decide to try putting it in my A485 but probably not, would require modifications). I just need to get an internal battery first but I think the i7 seller is gonna give me one, since the listing said it came with the internal battery but I received an external one. we'll see. happy with my purchase in any case

i am here to remind you that the greatest and last true thinkpad was the t60. anything after the t60 is unfortunately trash. i am sorry but it's true. i don't like it, but it's the truth. i'm thinking about adding a custom boot splash.
i have several t60's. they are all linked up into a t60 hivemind. i have an advanced dock hooked up to a period-correct ibm monitor, ibm keyboard, and thinkpad mouse. my t60's are souped up with max ram and max cpu.
i got a lot of spare parts including an assortment of various trackpoint caps in multiple styles. i prefer the soft rim style myself, of course you cannot even get a different style of cap on newer thinkpads.
i have traveled the world with my t60 and little by little i have replaced every part on it. perhaps the most kino has been visiting dingy chinatown cyber cafes with it. i mean the kind of places that have no signs or windows. the real deal full of chainsmoking chinamen. for nearly 20 years this machine has been at my side. i am here to answer any t60 questions. i know these machines in and out. feel free to share your t60 lore.

>>106538314
this but with t480
>>
>>106538314
well I love my T480 and A485 no matter what you think, anon
>>
>>106531650
Why the fuck is X260 battery artificially incompatible with T470? Same thing in reverse btw.
The only difference is slightly the position of connector.

turns out that the Nvidia GPU was still draining resources. a
echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000\:01\:00.0/remove
under root makes it not show up on fastfetch anymore, temps have gone down, and estimated battery life has gone up a bit
I'm gonna have to write a service file or something to have that applied at boot automatically now kek, but I'm glad I got that sorted out at least
