Any decently paid remote Chads can answer me?
How comfy is your job?

I am in a second world country, getting paid like shit, but my job is ultra-comfy.
It's hybrid, but the wfh days I mostly nap, and the office day I mostly chat.

They know I am addicted to comfiness and won't increase my pay.
They say "leave if you want better pay, but elsewhere you will be forced to work full time".

I'm thinking about remote jobs to first world countries.
Even 60K is a lot here, but I really don't wanna sacrifice my comfiness and work full 8 hours a day, monitoring software, tickets and shit etc etc

>>106579364
>since when is 996 a thing in the west?
It was a thing in the 90s and before in USA.
Work-life balance and such discussions only really started after the tech boom.
In some industries the old culture still persists and it's a race of who will leave the office the latest.

I think the less work you actually do, the more you feel you need to prove you are working.
But with the tech boom, the work was real and tangible, so people no longer felt the need they had to prove anything.

You didn't answer the question.
What's the use case for math in programming?
>>
>>106583648
from what I can tell math is only a factor in programming if you're doing some truly heinous shit like making your own game engine and you need to write a physics model for it or something like that

even low level stuff like high frequency trading its more about knowing C++ really well, how operating systems work, and knowing somebody at the company (the last one is the most important)
>>
>>106583648
in computing alone, graphics and ui positioning, cryptography, bulk flag setting/checking, summoning demons, timing

then there is just consoomer software like SAP module fintech garbage or having to do matrix math for airplane avionics or whatever
>>
>>106583686
Exactly. It's completely unnecessary in 99% of programming jobs.
The only ones who kvetch that it is are just coping PhDs or other academia cucks trying to justify their wasted time and effort on something easily replaced by a google search.

>>106583698
Everything you described are either highly specialized cases or problems you can quickly solve by googling or using a library.
Sure, someone has to have created those libraries, but that doesn't mean that every single software dev has to know how to do it as well.
>>
>>106583686

mathematics provides training and ability to reason out logical ideas carried forth step by step, while showing your work, in a logical progression ending with the desired result. If you can't do that with math, and get the correct answer, then your code will be shit and wrong solution or not an optimal solution. All optimal solutions in software have a mathematical foundation that proves they are optimal.

Having an issue with phishing that I'm scratching my head over. One of my clients is currently maintaining two domains in the following format: example.org and example-two.org. The latter is their old domain, and they're mainly maintaining it to avoid inconveniencing older clients who don't want to change their address books.
However, they've recently been receiving phishing emails that appear to be coming from their old domain. For example, jsmith@example.org keeps getting sent phishing emails from jsmith@example-two.org. I've tried to block inbound emails from that domain in Proofpoint, but it won't let me because the domain is in the Proofpoint portal. Likewise, I tried to implement a filter in the O365 portal to automatically quarantine emails from that domain, but it says that example-two.org isn't a valid address because of the hyphen, preventing me from implementing the filter.
I'm sure there's a simple solution to this, but I'm a fucking retard. Any ideas?

Diseconomies of scale in relation to the size of the labour force of an organization: The more people you have, the more people you need to supervise the people, the more people you need to supervise them, the more people you need to meta-supervise... You get the picture. Too many cooks ruining the broth applied ad nauseam. Especially when most of the people in the kitchen aren't even cooks and don't know how to cook or even about food in general, but feel very confident in their qualifications at bossing people around.

Or, as someone on /v/ eloquently put it: Give me twenty people and I will give you a masterpiece. Give me two thousand and you will be lucky to get anything at all.

this is exactly what I said
you rubbed your technical superiority in their faces
textbook autism
>I told you so
is the exact same thing as saying
>I'm better than you

you can't understand social situations and you doubled down despite me pointing it out

here's what you should have done
>non-dev tech worker says something is impossible, you take a look and do it easily
not your problem
why did you feel the need to prove yourself?
>dev tech worker who is an impostor says something is impossbile, you take a look and do it easilty
same as above
>Sales Engineer or Solution Engineer demands you build something a certain way, you caution that this will cause some catastrophic failure which you then document
>they ask for a solution, you propose the same solution you proposed before which makes them remember you predicted this
this particular case is on them, but I doubt it happened exactly like this and not you somehow "rubbing it in their face" again

already you have a "me vs them" mentality
it's your team, you shouldn't plan to expose them, you are supposed to cover for them
it is obvious you are not a team player and nobody wants you around

yes many are frauds, and what do you gain by exposing them?
you get fired
everyone is afraid of you and doesn't want you around

intellectual superiority if not matched with emotional superiority becomes a double edged sword

In my experience, the job market is totally irrational, and the only hope for getting a real job is relying on luck of the draw to find a team that is allowed to interview their own prospects AND isn't filled with psychopaths. Or at least is filled with the same sort of psychopath you are so they like you.

Getting an interview is 99% of the battle, and if you be yourself, either they'll just be like "Finally, someone who's only a little retarded." or HR will reject you because you'll fail a vibe check they made up after the fact. Of course, it depends on the job and whether you're really qualified, but even then, job listings never properly express what's required anyway. It's a hopeless endeavour to even express what you need most of the time, you think any job listing will be reasonable and measured even barely accurate?

Basically, it's essentially random. Or at least requires so much intel that no internet lad can help you.

Even if you want to shit on me for having had a weird life and not-useful experience to relay, that itself should go to show how irrational things are. All you can hope for is that the god of failure either loves or hates you.

at my "fake" work I should take this stuff to heart more.
I have things I want to do because they are interesting to me, and I see that doing them would make things better, for the good of the force

too often I have an immediate reaction of "heh heh, I'm not paid enough for this shit, have fun with your failed LARP" but I should remember that we LARP because some day, something real may happen.

>only it's not only their pride which is on the line, it is also their livelihood
today or tomorrow, it's larping and embarrassment; in hurricane season people may die who didn't have to had they just a little more support in something mundane. Maybe nothing happens, and an emergency response in training is delayed unduly.

I don't know if it's just rebel yell coming back or just lucky happenstance, but I've been meeting a lot of people lately who are trying to make stuff happen. I've been BTFO too often on that sort of thing and am dismissive of those guys I meet, but there's a (hopefully) palpable admiration for it. Just the other night, we were talking about radio licenses for something as simple as training the juniors on radio management, let alone just actually having one for actual tactical/strategic concerns.

My response from the back was just a repeated "I dunno, It's probably because of [bullshit reason I've heard] that's dumb because [reason I tried once upon a time to challenge it]; but I'm not the one in charge." It's an obvious "Well, we COULD do this stuff, wink wink" from the boss, but I'm not the boss. If he wants to make it happen, then he can do it. I'd have to defer to him and it becomes his project anyway.

Even teh guy who tried to have me charged, before that destructive performance review, gave me an only middling one because he said I had some good ideas, was at least reliable for prototyping/testing, but never seemed to carry projects through. Maybe it's because every time I'd try anything I'd get shot down, asshole.

I also wish I could tell people irl what I do without having to hide all the time. I don't wanna bring disgrace to the force and all that, but at the same time, it's what I do and I am proud of it in a perverse way. Especially now that I have a real job, and that too is stuff I can but feel weird talking about.

Like, yeah, this distateful nigga you know irl has to go in to shoot rifles and fix IR cameras. I am not ashamed of who I am on a personal level, but I know no one else wants to be associated with that. But I do incredibly boring stuff for moderately cool organizations, get to touch and do a lot of stuff that the average normie doesn't, and I am actually tired of pretending like I don't. I fucking made it, I enjoy the work I do, and the things I hate about my work are that I don't get to do it more. And I'm not fucking allowed to be proud of myself and what I've become.

Anyone else struggle with explaining that hard work has zero value to relatives? I was explaining how I worked on a project for a year only for it to be thrown completely in the trash and they insisted that that can't happen. Ive run into stuff like this in the past where I say I only do a few hours of real work a day and they start grilling me with questions hoping to find out I'm lying or about to be fired or something.

>>
>>106590847
You need to learn the art of communicating like a project manager. Like the guy at the end of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8OnoxKotPQ

Instead of "I haven't finished it," it's "development is complete. We will be performing end to end testing over the next week with a phased rollout of MVP functionality by <date>. Things x, y, and z [which were all part of the initial scope, but just say this anyway and act like everybody was aligned that they weren't] are prioritized as immediate follow up enhancements to enable <business value>. We have also created backlog items for <other stuff that was supposed to be part of initial scope but isn't the main thing people care about>." If anybody asks why all those other things aren't included in the initial release, just say it was a deliberate tradeoff that was made due to <source of delays like bugs discovered during development>.

Just act like you're a project manager giving updates to leadership on behalf of a faceless development team, even though you are the development team. Leadership types won't even question it if you put it in these terms because this is how every other discussion with a tech project manager goes. They don't say "the project isn't done," they say, "the project is done, now the team is fixing bugs that were discovered."

>Gen X: Absolute fucking KINO and SOVL
>Milennials: The cringiest shit I've ever seen
How did this happen? Is it just a consequence of having retarded boomers as parents?
>>
>>106594247
Because they're nice people and they want to give you a few days where they don't bother you with stupid shit. At least that's what I tell myself. Work is of the devil.
>>
>>106594269
i have gen x coworkers and they're frustrating to work with, they're the biggest grifters i've ever seen. they keep copying boomer strats for gen z and always want shit done but give no support to have it done.
>>
>>106578893
nay unless you enjoy stress and being blamed for random shit, I'd guess. I have no idea what a tech lead does though

>>106585938
>>106586088
you are obviously incompetent if you have to ask this here. have you ever used a search engine?
how the fuck did you manage to get a job?

>>106586346
>sets tight deadlines unilaterally
don't let him do this? talk to him or to his boss or whatever maybe?
also, find another job. or maybe get a medical / psych prescription and take a long break
>>
>>106594283
The thing you have to realize about jobs is that it's all self reinforcing grifts. It's all a big stroke job. If you want to get jerked off, you have to jerk everyone else off. And if you don't want to get jerked off, what the the fuck is wrong with you? Are you not a team player? Who doesn't want to be jerked off?
>>
>>106594377
i don't wanna get jerked off that's gay man
>>
>>106594269
In my experience, gen x mostly just bitch about their kids and how they have no spare time for anything. Who knows what the fuck they'd use it for if they had it though.
>>
>>106594171

I improved on this and now
>Jerk off on company time
>Have a long breakfast as soon as I wake up on company time
>Do 20 min of stretching in the morning on company time
>Do literally all the house chores in between tabs and calls
>>
>>106594417
Doing chores while WFH is about the same impact as removing the driving time from in office work.
>>
>>106594415
More kids.
>>
>>106594417
The concept of "company time" doesn't apply to remote workers.

>>Do 20 min of stretching in the morning on company time
>>Do literally all the house chores in between tabs and calls
i should do these
>>
>>106594440
The concept of "company time" didn't apply to anyone 50 years ago. People went to work because they paid a decent enough wage that people didn't burn everything down.

I tell them i've put them forward for a pay rise / promotion, delay it for a few months then tell them there's a hiring freeze because budgets are tight. They usually start looking for a new job then the cycle repeats with a fresh employee.
>>
>>106594749
Great but atleast bump it to 10k anon you need that cushion for so you don't have to pull out another loan to cover your ass or job loss. Anything can happen 2k is at most going to cover a major repair for your car.

We all gotta face that kind of thing some time.
Motivation to participate and remain involved, motivation to change and advance in life, it's all connected back to the body that's gotta live each day as some kind of semi-coherent collection of messages and labor.
You aren't a ghost. If you're the guy that called out at my job today, I miss you. We don't talk but so much, it'd be weird if we were closer without any physical proximity, but you are my brother and my friend, and I love you in those ways.

Only around dumbasses. We vibe just fine with other nerds. Have you ever been inside an office in your life?
>can't do math
Math is just for training the young brains of college students. 99% of ANY employed engineers in ANY field don't remember anything from second semester calculus. This is coming from someone who did a degree in math and bootcamped his way into tech - I don't use math and can't remember shit. Math is a (good) meme.

I make a living off of it. Be warned that almost half of the job postings for Python are not for software engineering, and those that are usually require it alongside another main language.

talk to your doctor about SNRIs or SSRIs.
If you tell them you lack energy or motivation, they'll probably give you something like Duloxetine.
make sure to tell them they work great even if it's "just good enough" because your doctor will likely read the next step in the flow chart and send you to a therapist (waste of time).
