i have this monitor. it's pretty good but viewing angles are meh. some advice:

forget using HDR because it's broken as you can't change any colour or settings with HDR enabled and have to use the shitty presets which are broken

2. download a brightness slider app like win10_brightnessslider.exe so you can change brightness from your desktop because the buttons on the monitor are ass and the menu is tedious to navigate

You are a good friend then. Check if it using legacy BIOS mode changes anything, if there is even such option.
>>
>>106665408
Tried some YouTube HDR videos as a way of testing HDR, seems fine to me. Dont know why would you want to fuck with shit in HDR since HDR is basically "pre-fucked" settings.

Good tip on the brightness app, will get that, thanks. Would be cool to bind it to the keyboard knob.

Are you using stock stand? I have shallow desk and it takes waaay too much space. Will need to get monitor arm.
>>
>>106665517
Legacy nor UEFI work. All roads lead to power cycling. I tried taking the GPU and second RAM stick out and still no luck. The only thing left I can think to try is using my own MOBO to install windows on a drive and seeing if it will boot to windows then. I'm not optimistic tho since it doesnt even seem to want to boot to the original dying HDD now. bg

HDR on mine for 3 of the presets is way too sharp to the point the image is fuzzy but with nice saturated colours but the sharpness makes it unusable and since you can't change the settings it's basically useless. or for the 4th mode (displayhdr or whatever) it has no over-sharpening but the colours are desaturated as fuck to the point where SDR with the game colour setting at 12 looks way better than HDR

>>106666626
im sorry you're seething at the existence of my perfectly functional pc and gpu that almost never gives me trouble, im sure you're projecting hard here.

I actually had issues with my 6900xt, but that was because i fucked up multiple times while mining crypto on it, with forgetting to apply the correct power settings, and i partially damaged a small component in the RAM, which got exposed by high vram games like Palworld, but i could still game on most things with no problems at 1440p.

Just fyi, its really, REALLY cringe to actively purview the patch notes of a gpu-brand you don't use, to find ammunition to abuse, for games you don't play, to insult your betters.

But, if you ARE gonna be a cringy Njudean shill and do it anyway, do be aware, that the phrase "may be observed" doesn't mean "everyone will experience this constantly", retard. It means, that it MIGHT happen to you, sometimes.

but it's not a sdr display it's a native 10bit qdoled

color management if it's in 8bit or 10bit looks the same to my eye, but the benefit would be better gradient handling or whatever bullshit?

what's the benefit? seems to be 0

and if left on 8bit it will be 8bit in hdr if swapping over to hdr too

There is no brand war; AMD & their customers' actions say it all.
Laptop OEMs didn't want AMD's buggy 7900M GPU, so those buggy chips were sold as the RX 7900 GRE video card to unknowing gamers.
The same buggy GCD that's in all RX 7900 cards.

1080 is still good to play stuff at low to mid so if your fine with that you can just stay vigilant for any good deals on newer stuff. Used 4080 go for 700 and are really good, just make sure you are able to verify that it works under load before buying used. As for new, 9070/xt and 5070ti are the minimum for comfy 1440p, 5060 and 9060 16gb enough for 1080p. B580 12Gb also exists as a super busget option but drivers are shit and Intel might kill their gaming driver team at any moment so its only worthwhile if you're gonna use it for a year or two, and even if you are you're better off with 5060ti or 9060 xt 16gb since they'll have a lot of resale value for the coming years

You could probably find a 3060/3060ti at a similar price and it'd do far better. Also check for 4060 and its prices. Personally I'd also get a better case with access to top fan mounts to allow future upgrades to the system, though this depends on your houses ambient temperature throughout the year, im a south europoor so no AC in the summer always meant that my PC has to deal with 30-40°C ambient which makes having good airflow of paramount performance, if your house's temp doesnt exceed 28°C it doesnt matter much, just make sure that whatever GPU you put in in the end fits. Also make sure to benchmark the CPU and GPU once its ready to check out temperatures, if your son is tech savvy then get him to run something like HWID on the background while gaming and then check the average ans peak temps. If CPU temp is too close to the manufacturer stated max operating temp then look into getting a new CPU fan, the Peerless Assassin SE 120 twin tower fan is essentially the best, having 100$ performance at an average price of 30-40$

at this point just buy a prebuilt because at these lower prices you'll probably squeeze out a bit more value from a reseller rather than buying these components yourself and delivery costs. for $500 i'm sure you could probably get a 3060 tier prebuilt on the used market or maybe even new/refurb

Around 2013 my father had a laptop with a ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 for a little while and I was impressed at how amazing it was for early-2000s gaming. It ran CoD2 and Half-Life 2 like a champ! Struggled with WoW 1.12.1 (private servers) for some reason, possibly a weak single-core CPU or not enough RAM?
>>
>>106667228
No joke that GPU performs worse than one I got 10 years ago for not that much more money. You should heavily consider a used GPU, for $180 you can probably get a 6600XT or maybe a 3060 that won't feel instantly obsolete.
>>

i legit cannot get over how quiet my new pc build is, its almost uncanny.
Corsair frame 4000d with 3x 120rs fans in front, 2x corsair rs 120 at back&top back for exhaust, thermalright phantom spirit 120 cpu fan, 5070ti that has built in quiet mode

Its like my PC is turned off, i almost need to turn on my desktop fan to not go insane from how quiet it is LOL. Temps have not gone over 65c yet even when playing UE5 games at max, fans still extremely quiet when gaming other than the occassional cpu spikes on loading screens(shaders etc). IM SO HAPPY

I feel like you can legit get way more value and a better upgradable case by copying some of those 500 dollar builds on YouTube
like other anons said you are better off buying a better used gpu than the 3050 which is only good as a dedicated physx32 card, not an actual gpu
and personally, I know your son just plays absolute slop but you could definitely buy an extra nvme storage and preload it with emulators with multiple actual good games for him to at least diversify his likes and try different things
and make sure to debloat windows for his sake, all that telemetry is gonna get him fully profiled for corporations by the time he becomes 18
