I'm a thirdie with 0 professional experience and it's been like five years since I graduated CS undergrad (I'm 27, dropped out for a spell). Is there any hope? I'm kinda sorta okay with C++ / C / Python (can build medium-sized apps) and can do intermediate devops shite and know a few meme langs (lua, elisp). I can easily discuss program architecture and am not a dummy (I spend my time reading up on other things). I have no contacts. Will I ever find a job? Should I even bother? Or should I start grinding SAAS and hope someone notices me? Or should I do everything: SAAS, spray-and-pray my resume and build something cool (like what? Advice appreciated.)

Yes, I have a website.

Pic related, attention-grabbing image.

in CS a graduate degree is actually worth less than a bachelor's degree. any position asking for a Master's degree is bascially saying "jeets only" because jeets have to get a Master's degree since a bachelor's degree from a jeet university is considered somewhere between worthless and counterfeit.

Keep pushing. It seems today I landed my first job in 20 months of unemployment.
Do whatever you need to do for recruiters to find you desirable: brush up your CV with AI and have some HR roastie look at it for improvements, create projects on Github, do some courses just for show on your resumé, make up how much cost savings or whatever the fuck you provided to your previous employer, etc.
Reach out to recruiters on Linkedin (polish your profile if you haven't). That's how I got interviews.
>>
I'm currently in OMSCS (1st semester) but have seen a lot of Blind posts stating it's irrelevant for employment and a waste of time outside of treating it like a somewhat expensive school-for-hobby. Instead I should be doing 3 Leetcode problems a day.

My question is: Should I be putting the Leetcode work on my github? While I'm sure it would help with technical interviews, I'm not getting to technical segments at all currently in the first place (and those Blind posts are from peak hiring). I'm doing OMSCS for travel purposes anyway (Graduation qualifies me for a two-year visa in Japan) but it had me curious.
>>
How much "personality" do you put into your applications? Got told by a recruiter that rejected me to do that after years of being taught "Make yourself as professional as possible, cut out the fat and focus on the technical skills".

Thank you for the encouragement however my issue seems to be (it is hard to say this humbly but) I'm so good at what I do it scares the hiring manager that I will end up in his job. It's a catch -22 that if I play dumb I'm too dumb to hire if I play me I'm too competent to risk hiring.

You need to tailor your resume to each position in that case. But if you're that good then have someone do it for you (I suppose you still have some savings).
Also, if you don't have kids try positions overseas. You might earn less but having such a huge gap is very detrimental if you have to fight against the ATS/AI/HR roasties.

On Friday, before everyone gets home, all managers/seniors headpats their juniors

All juniors hug each other and wish themselves happy weekends.

My savings is unfortunately exhausted because I was struck by a series of black-swan catastrophes over the few months after I got laid off. I won't go into that, but I got laid off because my company hired a bunch of do-nothing executives and VPs who spent most of their time arguing with me on how I ran my department, which I built up from nothing, instead of doing their own jobs. Once they ran the company into the ground and caused the revenues to decline sharply (like I was fucking telling them would happen if the didn't do their jobs and instead came into my line trying to improve what-fucking-ever shit I don't know why they were hellbent on fucking up my department) then I and 2/3rds of the IT department were laid off. I do not have kids because above kind of shit has basically been my experience in life, just on a larger more grander scale that time, so I won't be perpetuating the cycle of providing a replacement worker once I expire.

Hmm.. Overseas. Yeah I've been thinking that route once I get my mom in a stable spot and circumstances convince my wife that it's time to GTFOOH. In the meantime I plan to get somekind of job that leads to entry-level job in a totally different engineering field, then a master's degree in that field, then a PE and then I'm ghost like Swazy.

Lastly: the boomers fucked this country so bad and displaced so many highly-skilled Americans in the process that I really have no stake in what used to be my home. I would just subsist off of deer meat and creek water but my wife would not be able to physically handle that lifestyle, so.... yeah. Oh well. I just can't wait to meet Jesus at the pearly gates and hear him say "you tried my son, nice work, come on in".
>>
>>106711173
it really depends on when and where you graduated, but at this point, I'd advise everybody to pick a field that fucking jeets won't do such as anything with a slight technical component that is performed with hands in the field.

every engineering field, besides software, has a hands on component. the trouble with law school is that it is super expensive and unless you want to be a trial-attorney (which is awesome) then it's a bunch of soul-sucking crapola dealing with business faggots having a crybaby squabble between which wealthy bastard gets the short end of the contractual stick. I have several friends who are attorneys. You also have to decide on which state you plan to reside in for the rest of your life as passing the bar exam in each state requires understanding the uniqueness of each state's laws. International law is just a fake garbage legal system of might makes right and shit like that.

I dunno about you guys but personally, I'm taking the National College Entrance Exam (the Concours) this year, although I'm 32, and I'll probably get my CS/SWE/ECE degree by the time I'm 37. It's not nothing, at least.

I already enrolled in a shitty college, but I dropped out. Here's their curriculum:

https://pastebin.com/DqxdrbPH

I have a total 3 + 2 semesters of SWE under my belt. But nobody hires someone who has a degree. I'm pathetic. I shoulda gone to IAU's ECE program when I got accepted at 19. But IAU is a garbage college. I want to get accepted into FUM's CS program.

I have bipolarity and my brain was locked out when I was 18, until I had a 2-month stay at the mental hospital when I was 23. It took another fucking decade until I had my bipolarity under control. Which means, yes, I was fully treated of my bipolarity less than a month ago.

Not sure if you want constructive criticism but I've got a couple off the top of my head;
The cards should be clickable instead of just the title of the card, it looks difficult to click on for small devices.
The 'Sign up for our newsletter' and 'Share with our community on social media' at the bottom of the pages should be on the same line at this aspect ratio.
On the 'Contact us' page the 'Feedback' and 'Custom order' forms have the same fields, make it one form -- the user will explain in the message whether it's an inquiry or feedback regardless. Also the fields labels and inputs are jagged, this is the perfect place to use a grid layout.
If you've used a <table> layout anywhere it's not responsive for mobile sizes, tables are for tabulated data grid layouts are for grid items.
A small design issue which might not even be an issue; the small black text against the light brown/orange color might fail color-contrast standards and be difficult to read for old people (the target demograph of a nursery) it might pay to have a lighter brown color (or white) for the boxes with smaller text.

I honestly think JD Vance's Indian family will be his biggest impediment to getting elected in 2028
>>
>>106711692
Its mostly bots at this point. I think the bots however has reduced since the end of the election. Alot of poor performers for the left and right have been dropped off the map for funding since the end of the election cycle. Whoever survives on there own will get bonuses and further funding. Likewise bots that drive user engagement has dropped alot more on reddit/twittter/facebook ect. I think these bot farms cost just as much as an influencer. BTW i think reddit will die before 4chan does and we are already seeing a drop in usage.

I've taken up the habit of composing my prose with typos and semantic mistakes, because the shitty Anti-Bot apps that le reddit has mark anything with a semblance of 'AI speak' as abusive traffic, and your username will get banned the moment you post a thread.

A few months ago, they limited this to only threads posted by users with datacenter IPs. But Reddit and 4chan have both been unbanned here, and I post with my domestic IP, and I still get flagged.

These morons are fucking retarded man. They mistakenly flag real people as bots. This just shows, they don't want any additional users to come to their websites. I doubt Reddit is an attractive "Social Media" destination for anyone except retarded geekoids and virgin nerds.

Think about it, "What" do we gain by posting on Reddit? Zilch. Nada. You've just spent your entire day making a post on Reddit for 'le updoot'. And that's fucking pathetic.

I am so tired of Reddit in general. They've banned all of my users, someone in their admin team has a venedetta against me. I'm just belittling myself if I post there.

Once upon a time, I thought, "If I post my programs (https://github.com/Chubek) on Le Reddit, I will gain traction to them". But every time, every goddamn time I post anything to Reddit, all I get is retarded comments.

I have decided to directly contact blog authors, and tech journalists, and youtubers alike to promote my software. I've decided to collect a dataset of all the based journos, youtubers and bloggers, and send a mass-email to them all when I want to promote my programs.

Reddit is never a good place to promote, learn, and have a talk. I shoulda realized this 15 years ago. Still, better late than never.

I was watching Bread on Penguin's steam just a few hours ago, and she said she wants to make an old-school BB-style forum. Maybe that's the future of the web. Fuck Reddit.

I'm also an approved member of Agora Road Macintosh Cafe, but I don't know what this forum is about.

They are just jealous faggots who both give out bad criticism, give misleading criticism but get mad at others for trying to get directly to the point of the matter. You always have to play the woman's emotional card of hug boxing people when all you really have to do is call them a retarded faggot for having a bad idea instead of trying to get mental health to seek out advice for them about how unique they are to the world. No retard this guy is trying to kill himself but if he does it wrong it will paralyse him i would rather skip the foreplay with these idiots in every conversation they have. Anything tech related is the same issue. You cannot criticize brands on brand forums because no shit its owned by them. You can't pick and pull out these people's conversations without getting banned or getting spammed with inane bullshit that leads to no conversation.

I posted this -> https://github.com/Chubek/PoxHash, in several subreddits.

The r/C_programming sub gave me good advice.

The r/cryptography sub gave me useful info.

But r/rust, oh man. This sub is demented. Their question is "why you made this". Focus on 'why'. Yet, the 10000th webserver is posted on the sub, and all it receives is praises.

r/rust does the same to anyone posting a language they've made. It's obvious why they think someone making a random HTTP framework or web server is "unproblamtic", but they don't see why anyone would make a theory-heavy project like a compiler or a hash. The reason is, these people are fucking dumb. They should not even be using Rust for their crappy apps. The more OS- and I/O-bound your software is, the less need to make it in a compiled language like Rust.

I think people on r/rust are either too young, or just retarded. Period.

Now, r/C_programming and r/cryptography has been nearly abandoned. There was this dude on r/C_programming who really helped me, u/skeeto. He posts less and less these days.

I think the more popular a piece of tech is, the more brainlets you can see in its fan communities.

I'm not normally this chuddy-sounding, but I'm strongly of the opinion that this is something that makes more sense if you're a conventionally attractive normie type looking for roles where your phenotype/presentation matters a lot. In that sense that kind of activity is almost like pre interviewing already.
Yet obviously nobody wants to talk to someone that isn't hot and is cold DMing them about their job.
When you think about HR women or college advisors giving this kind of advice, imagine how much more likely they are to get responses when they were an even moderately attractive ~23 year old white guy DMing 35 year old guys or office cat ladies. Like, of course that's going to be a whole different universe than it is for the average /g/ user, it's just how the world is.

Yes, I know. Sort of. I sort of agree. It is hard to explain. Gen Y considers itself Gen Y and yes part of millenials but does not consider millenials to be Gen Y. If you had a pager when you were a teenager then you are Gen Y, that is just about the easiest way I can describe it. There are subtle differences. The absolutely youngest Gen X always mistake a Gen Y for a Gen X but they don't mistake a Millenial for a Gen X. hard to explain. I'm not trying to exclude anyone but there is a difference. If somebody asked me "are you a millenial" I'd say something like "No, not really."

Sounds like you must have been the beginning of millennials. This happens with every generation. Most definitions for generations are defined more of the middle, where the beginning and end are a mixture of the previous generation and proceeding generation respectfully. I've seen gen z'ers claim they aren't gen z'ers because they're part of the first few years, but don't usually exhibit the defining traits of gen z and are embarrassed.

You basically need to go to any place that you figure is a tech hangout that serves alcohol, there are retro arcades popping up in cities now, and you need to pace yourself where you have enough drinks to be just a little tipsy and learn when someone else is also the right amount of tipsy where you can start chatting with them and it is not weird, and then FIRST GET THEM TO TALK ABOUT THEMSELF A LITTLE then talk about yourself, tell them you have a CS degree and are interested in robotics and that you need a job, and give them your phone number. Don't ask them for their phone number, just give them your phone number while saying that you are still looking "for that first job" and if they have a job opening at their company to text you the link. That's it. Your target is talking to anybody about 3-8 years older than you. And just keep doing that. I know it is lame, but you never know what might come of that. The hard part is don't make friends, and don't get drunk, and start partying and shit. Just a little bit of drinking and socializing. Don't spend too much time with each person, maybe 20 minutes maximum, and the objective is to try to meet as many people in the room. Then leave that bar, and go to the next bar.
>>
>>106713136
why do shut-in losers larp as if they have ever even been outside, let alone made a genuine human connection in real

>>106713107
Yeah I am sort of a bridge between the two generations. I actually like talking to Zoomers to because they get this happy look on there face like finally somebody politcically incorrect enough to just state plainly what they've always suspected. Millenials qua Millenials tend to be a little too diplomatic I feel.
>>
>>106713045
>>106713136
For the genuine advice, thank you. I'm not actually very interested in robotics, it's just what I was able to get as an internship that year. Applied to Honeywell and possibly Schneider already, but I will look into the other two. Really I just want a "normal" job in software; my dad was a factory worker so my standards aren't too high.

>What state do you live in? or Want to live in?
I just want to get out of the sticks. I'd love to work in a big city like New York or Boston or Philadelphia. Where I am now, there's not really any such thing as a tech hangout unless I want to drive over an hour away to the nearest real city, which is absurd just for a chance to network.

>are people your age cliquey?
Hard to answer. When I was in uni: totally. Living at home in a small town: absolutely not.

Woods. Yep. Woods. Someday you will miss those woods, but not anytime soon.
Track down some college buddies that moved to a city and rent a room with them and work whatever job you need to pay that rent is my suggestion. If you could land a job as a bartender somehow at an upscale bar/resturaunt/winebar you might get a hiring manager sitting right there at your bar. Yankeeville is fucked. Richmond has entry-level jobs I've been hearing. Your first job is a stepping stone. If you did some robotics stuff then work that angle a bit.

Oh, here's a huge tip: Contact college buddies that live in different cities and ask to use their address as the address you list on your resume. It is super stupid but alot of times your resume will get ignored if you don't already live in the city where the job is offered.

DONT GET A DUI

Why do jeets always work at companies built by non-jeets but somehow don't realize that jeet culture is inferior and that's why a 3000 year old civilization still shits in the same river they bathe in? I think that is a more important question for you to consider given that you are a jeet.

After having graduated it and being unemployed for over a year after, yeah it's mostly pointless in todays economy. You can spend a fraction of the time and money grinding leetcode, paying for practice system design interviews, and spamming grifthub projects.

If your undergrad is a lot less prestigious than GT, then it's probably fine to have. Lots of government jobs or government contractors are basically required to have a graduate degree as well.

But using it for a visa is crazy though: you're gonna be in school longer than you'll be in japan and a lot of the courses you can't just sleep through: it's regularly 10-20 hours a week per course for anything that isn't part of business management.

You are the one with the problem. Either 1) you are not from USA or 2) you do not have enough lived experience to comprehend the wisdom I am attempting to give you.

A social identity that is founded upon phenotype will eventually regress/devolve back to tribalism after a few generations.
>>
>>106717432
It's not just based on phenotype, it's based on the entire fiber of being. Staying within a genetic pool is the only to prevent being outbred by more numerous outside genes that replicate themselves much more. Even if everyone decided to have 2.5 kids and we made sure there were multiple copies of every gene in circulation it's still much more romantic picking the same kind of person over generations. You'll only devolve back to tribalism if you don't do anything about shitty dysfunctional genes that for some god forsaken reason is incapable of being happy with their people at the same time all the other different kinds of life are also happy.

Inaccurate. The meta is offering a tokens that refil on a daily basis.
Free accounts get enough tokens just to get a basic sample of the basic features.
Then if the users actually want to use the site consistently they are forced to upgrade or pay for additional tokens.

>In the US maybe, solar and wind are booming in every other first-world country.
Nah. I live in one of these other "first-world" countries that are rapidly becoming third world due to importing the choicest scum Africa and the Middle East have on offer. Some rich boomers (they've been getting noticeably poorer for the past 2 years) still buy solar panels/batteries because they believe the "it totally makes you independent of the grid" lies. The lion's share of boomers with EVs are trying to sell theirs because they bought another car with an internal combustion engine now. The EV has been tried, found wanting and now they can't get rid of it (lots of classifieds up that have been around for half a year).

The difference between America and the rest of the "first world" is that in America it has recently become permissible to point out that the solar and EV emperor's got no clothes. In the rest of the "first world", the propaganda engines are still running full tilt.

Join the military as an officer after finding out how services differ. I'd go USAF or Space Force (I'm career USAF retired enlisted).

Nothing you're reasonably likely to do in civilian life offers vesting a lifetime of mostly recession-proof pension and other benefits at 20 years (or longer for the pay bumps). Your existing skills need not be used conventionally to enhance your career. The armed forces are a chance to try something different where your understanding of tech will be an advantage.

Retired officers need not work again unless they want to. Most of your peers will work until they're worn out because they're so economically vulnerable. Life is war. Plan it like one.

Since you're already degreed you can have Uncle pay for other education to diversify your skills even further, and do so at any point in or after your career. Every career spans several POTUS so which was in office mattered little. As cuts thin a top-heavy officer corps new officers will still be required.

You're going to be working at something so consider your income and benefit security needs in the context of a reasonable life plan (which should include surprise disaster mitigation tools like disability compensation because humans are not durable). The purpose of work is to one day be work-optional and do whatever steams your speedos.

If you learned one field you can more easily learn others because you have already learned HOW to learn.

If military not an option, civilian controls tech may be easy for you to pick up. Our mechatronics students got plenty of job offers in the southeast.
Our CAD/CAM grads did too.

>claiming it's a shill conspiracy.

The last Boomer was born in 1965. If they were any good in tech and didn't piss away their money (or get gutted in a divorce) they should be retired or fully prepared.

Income continuity is more important once comfort needs are met than ephemeral high income years whose proceeds are vulnerable to market crashes. The wise don't chase gold rushes unless it's to sell pans and shovels.
>>
>>106711252
Commission as an officer. Instant short career for a lifetime of benefits and an unbeatable human network. Go Air or Space Force of course for quality of life. Then knock out 20 while networking for whatever you next feel like doing which can include making rank, politics etc.

An officer who retires at 20 need not work again unless they feel like it for example insisting on an expensive urban location. I did it on enlisted retirement but officers net much more money.

The secret of not having to work into old age (the purpose of work before old age) is doing what your society sincerely rewards, not trying to make whatever that is something else or different.
>>
>>106717827
>But I love computers and logic and software!

That doesn't mean you can't code for fun while doing something else to get money.
Money makes freedom usable.
Why ruin something you enjoy by making it your (increasingly precarious) job?

it isn't. their examples have X=0 or Y=0 but that's not guaranteed by constraints. for general test cases the answer could be something else (try it on paper)
but yeah *IF* it was guaranteed then you'd be right.
leetcode problems are just badly made.

This, it's just hard for no reason.
>>
>>106723040
No
The example given leads you to believe that they will be giving you all the potential points in a square plane, and that you have to figure out the largest area a triangle can occupy in that plane
But then as soon as you start getting actual input they give you random points like (3,7), (1,5), (6,3), (4,6) and they don't form a square.

The question is shit because the two solutions are either:
>Brute forcing it (You still need to know the formula to figure out the area of a triange based on three coordinates, the time complexity is always O(n)^3)
>Heron's formula (If you don't remember this from geometry, lol)
If you were like me and didn't pay attention in geometry and forgot all the garbage you learned in high school 7 years ago, that problem is unsolveable without google

exactly. as many leetcode problems it is totally miscalibrated.
