FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.
irm https://get.activated.win | iex

>and Office?
Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

>>106761453
Yeah. I still have paranoia about windows registry rot, prefetches, temp files after installs/failed installs, and other crap littering my C drive. Don't know if trashreg alone is sufficient though or if it is up to date for Windows 10.

But do you mean for your install to be backed up to a flash drive? Or to be able to run Windows 10 off the flash drive?
You are better off using an SSD in an enclosure or something like a Samsung T7 if you intend to run Windows, no?

I have a utilitarian Win10 install on a 2.5" SSD in a USB enclosure for testing machines, though I hardly use it anymore. I can also clone my main OS with it when I want without having to boot into it.

In my experience deleting these two selected folders is enough to break Edge. No more Edge, but without screwing up Windows. Even Windows Update and Edge's own update service cannot fix it because the required folders and files for updating the browser are missing. I think the update that added the Copilot shortcut in the Taskbar for all non-ARM users is what reinstalled Edge, but then re-deleting these folders breaks it again and keeps it broken. I'm using Outlook, so I'm keeping Edge just so that works for me, but its services can be disabled within both Services.msc and Edge's Settings, System tab. No need for scripts and third party apps to get rid of Edge, just a simple folder deletion breaks the app. Webview2 has to be avoided, deleting that screws up Windows 11, I don't remember what applets and settings windows and stuff get screwed. Brave browser has me covered for the rare website that doesn't want non-Chromium browsers like Firefox, which I have sworn by since Windows Vista and 7.

You goofed some setting, if I recall correctly, Win10 usually doesn't need to reload thumbnails often unless changes have been made to the given folder. Messing with this is likely in the registry.

>>106758435
The pajits at Microsoft probably did just vibe code and release. I do believe they are stupid enough. How often do they make end users beta testers without notifying or asking for consent? It is a trend among big corpos. It is not constant, but Microsft occasionally does it, too.

>>106756376
Win10-compatible software dropping Win10 support in this age of Win11 is politically-motivated. Not government politics, but bad corporate/market politics. There's good reasons why companies are being pushed by idiotic normies to churn out updates even when it is not really necessary. I have not lookede into the obsession over updates, but it exists, that's part of why Microsoft now no longer wants to sit on any major version of Windows too long. They don't want to look like they are "falling behind". This is likely a part of why Windows 11 exists despite ultimately just being mainly a Win10 reskin with some networking security enhancements.

>>106753542
You can stay on Windows 7 for that if you want. There's Supermium for it.

I asked about this a few weeks ago but got distracted before I could finish troubleshooting it with another anon

On both the W11 laptops I have, randomly, I'd say once or twice every hour, I won't be able to switch to a different window: The window I select will flash on screen for like a frame, but then the previous active window will move up front again instantly. If that happens, I have to minimize the current/previous window, then click whatever window is visible beneath it, then switch to the window I actually want to switch to which will actually stick this time

Anybody have an idea of what causes it and how I can prevent it?

I don't believe it's limited to occurring with specific programs. I do have a program called Deskpins installed to keep specific windows constantly on top, but this issue happens with other windows, not those, and it happens even if Deskpins isn't running

Is there a way to run a log that will read what Windows is doing and I can look at what's happening at the moment the issue occurs?

Have you checked Event Viewer for errors?
That's usually one of the first places you want to go and take a look at what's going on in the background and can often clue you in on what's wrong, even if the errors don't directly indicate the exact culprit, at least you'll have clues to narrow it down and figure it out.

I've tried two different 32gb microSDs, in three different micro to SD adapters and a USB adapter with an SD and Micro slot, on a desktop and laptop.
It shows up in the sidebar on the file explorer, but won't open the fucking thing.
>>
>>106763846
Yes. Go Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application
Once it loads, look for "Error" entries. They say "Error" on the left and have a red icon next to that. For every entry, web search the error message with "Event ID" displayed for that same entry you are looking at to learn more.

Repeat the process with Windows Logs > System

Easiest thing to do is to either disconnect the other drives leaving only the target before running the installer USB or using diskpart within the installer's command prompt to manually take every drive offline that isn't the target.

>>106765803
You can just look up an MS Learn page on diskpart commands but for starters you just run it in the command prompt, run "list disk" to see the disk numbers, then "select disk (x)" to load one of the disks into diskpart (don't use brackets) then use "detail disk" to find out what exactly the numbered disk is. Do this to all the disks to find out which ones you want to disable then just run "select disk (x)" and then run "offline disk", which'll make it unseen by the installer. Do that until only your target disk in online.

So yeah, remember that fake Wallpaper Engine github repo I downloaded and ran somehow on August 10? THIS SHIT CORRUPTED MY FILE INDEX SOMEHOW AFTER REMOVING THE .DLL AND THE ENTIRE FOLDER! I only discovered this after installing a new Windows instance on my second SSD, dual booting a few times. I have no fucking idea what the extent of its fuckery is but it looks like it didn't like me writing stuff to the drive from the second Windows after a while. I first notice something was wrong when running Everything and it started crashing, so I removed and regenerated the db file, then Librewolf stops working with an exit code. Event log reportd Windows Updates consistent with me using Wireshark all the time, though I cannot access the settings for it any longer. Event log pointed me to online scans being needed and other reports of corrupted indexes. Too much weird shit to go on explaining. For all I know this drive has AIDS now and will infect anything I plug it into like viruses of old.

Who knows what nightmares I have created now through my carelessness.

I downloaded all of the .appx files for all the store programs I need. I install them from winget while I'm online, but I live in an area where the Internet is cut off regularly for days. How would I go about seeing which appx number version is currently installed for each app that I installed using from the store using winget, i'm assuming the highest version number_x64 if I'm on 64bit right? And is there a way to see the dependencies from each of those apps like which Microsoft.UI.Xaml.2.8_8 version it installed, which Microsoft.VCLibs, which Microsoft.ZuneVideo, etc?

If I double click the 64bit.appx for the app, will it automatically check the folder and find its own dependencies like Microsoft.VCLlibs and Microsoft.ZuneVideo?

If that isn't the case, that's why I want to know which other dependencies are installed so I can also double click and install their .appx bundles.

>type in "list disk" again just to confirm the right disk is selected because if you fuck up you'll wipe the wrong drive. The selected disk will now have an asterisk. MAKE SURE THE RIGHT DRIVE IS SELECTED

You can enroll in the ESU program to have security updates for another 3 years with MAS, the tool that's also used to activate windows.

But to humor your question, if you do relatively safe browsing, and use adblockers and maybe even a firewall, then you'll be safe for a few years, or until a big vulnerability gets discovered, so that's why it's good to keep yourself informed about recent discoveries and malware trends
>>
>>106775002
I would just convert your 10 machine to Enterprise, re-activate, then activate the ESU licenses via MAS so you'll have three more years of updates.

When I played CoD I had this strange issue with W11 that it couldn't keep vsync and was also having CPU usage spikes which never happened with W10. After some testing I needed to force vsync via NVidia control panel and enable HAGS.
Otherwise games have been smoother because the new flip model has way less input latency than anything on W10. It feels somewhat snappier. Of course this is system specific in some cases.

Probably because:
>streetshitterland, being part of the british empire for four centuries, speaks a lot of english
>you'd be amazed how many yuropoors speak english
>nearly every other english-speaking country (us, canada, australia etc.) uses dollars - airstrip one is the only real odd one out
I have no idea why the Swiss Franc is there, though - English is one of the few big Euro language that aren't official there, and it could be someone at Microsoft Tower's idea of a joke, like how they made the default backscroll in conhost 9001 lines a few years back.
>>

>Swiss Franc
This is "not official" locale English (Switzerland) which I have installed.
>a joke
I heard about it when I saw the locale in KDE, but I'm not sure if it's true.

However, why is the Indian Rupee present by default when it should only be offered for the regional format? I understand the number of Indians in the US, at Microsoft, and in the UK. But the Indian Rupee can hardly be considered an international currency.

am I reading this wrong or is it implying you can upgrade a W10 home/pro edition to IoT LTSC 22H2 through changing some files?

also, primarily making this post to ask if massgrave is still fine to use? no reports of anyone having problems with it?
>>
>>106777350
Edge is great. I would run shutup10 before use though, and turn off everything in the new tabs page.
>>
>>106779920
that guide is for users who are already in IoT LTSC 21H2 and want to upgrade to 22H2, which needs a hacky way to do it

If you want to go from Home/Pro to LTSC you need another guide (it's on the massgrave page, Windows 10 EOL section)

And yes, massgrave is still fine

I'm so glad most of my files are stored on a server. I never have to worry about nuking my OS install and can just do it whenever.
A virus? Nuke and reinstall.
Something is corrupted? Nuke and reinstall.
It's slowing down for some unknown reason? Nuke and reinstall.
At most I might have to waste half a day to reinstall my games and some of my programs but that's it. I already have an automated script to install everything for me so I can also just leave it overnight.

Apologies if this isn't the right thread for this, but in the /vm/cs2g they onyl talk about esports.

In CS I play on 1280x960 on a 1440p monitor. On exclusive fullscreen everything looks fine, my crosshair looks as it should (1px black border) and ingame text is rendered as it should.

When I try borderless fullscreen my crosshair's outline somehow bleeds (?) into the actual crosshair and I essentially get a black crosshair, on top of that some text rendering is garbled and looks very strange.

Fullscreen alt-tabbing naturally takes forever and sometimes makes the game crash due to desktop and game resolution mismatch (that's fine, expected behavior). The only solution I can come up with is having desktop res match game res in borderless. I don't even know if this whole thing is a game or windows scaling problem at this point, would love some input on this.

p.s. No, i won't play native or change my crosshair

There is none, as far as I know, or you must install 11 while having loaded Windows 7/8/10 first. Your drive gets wiped if you install without loading older Windows, as shown in the video. If you don't like it, backup your files to an external drive first, then proceed with the install. A clean, new install is recommended, and your drive getting wiped is simply a part of that procedure.

What's the stance on keeping W10 or upgrading to W11?

Is there any well estabilished "debloater" for both? I'm not keen on sending telemetry and having a bunch of scrap applications I never use like xbox live or 3dpaint
>>
>>106784811
Through MAS's ESU activation methods any person on Enterprise/Education (and I think Pro?) can get a free three extra years of updates on 10, plus if you live in an EU country you get a legitimate extra year of updates. You can change to 11 if you want, though personally I'd just use IoT LTSC 2024 here. And for disabling the telemetry and shit like that the easiest to use frontend is ShutUp10++, and WinaeroTweaker for tweaking certain things pertaining to processes like explorer.exe

Because that's a 7 year-old utility, designed for Windows 10 1803 and before. is ltsc worth the hassle?
i am tired of my linux laptop raping my battery and i want to move to windows. /fwt/ is dead.

i have dabbled around with 11 ltsc and managed to turn off most telemetry with just two group policies. now the only two domains left were some microsoft domainst that did not have anything to do with windows uldate so i blocked those in the hosts file. my laptop is now sending literally 0 information to microsoft and i can prove it with wireshark.

i want to know if ltsc is the right choice. in the installer i didnt have network or touchpad support. i had to wait for lenovo drivers to get dowbloaded.

all my windows buddies are obssesed with downloading drivers from the interwebs instead of letting windows fetch them automatically. since all my drivers are inside the linux kernel, i never downloaded anything. but my wifi chip seems to be fucked on windows. sometimes it connects, sometimes its awfully slow, most of the time the wifi randomly turns off. any ideas what to do? do i really gotta search google like a moron for lenovo x1 carbon drivers?

im not sure if regular 11 pro would be better, as its easier to install wsl and winget on it. problem is, i deeply dislike the microsoft account integration and i am cautious of ever logging in with microsoft on an app.
>>
>>106787020
LTSC is literally just Enterprise with a further away EoL date, license and no UWP apps installed besides system ones like Settings. If you're installing Windows fresh to a system then LTSC is naturally a good pick because of its bareness. Windows Update is usually pretty good with installing drivers that might be needed, plus using LTSC with a local account is incredibly easy, especially with boot USB makers like Rufus setting it all up before hand for you to do this. Also for your wireless card you could always just look up your OEM model on the Lenovo website and get its wireless driver from there.

Try, it's a matter of testing unfortunately. Because they changed some things under the hood in W11...
I thought I'd install Linux as I'm an experienced user but it's been a while since I last had an installation at home. I think I used XFCE3 or something and that was 10+ years ago. Didn't have much trouble. Now?
>undervolting nvidia gpu is pain (because you can't just undervolt it per se it needs to be overlocked and power limited instead which is sort of backwards logic to me)
>setting up custom fan profiles is equally as disturbing
>undervolting cpu needs to be done via some script
And when testing these I managed to somehow lock my gpu's fan to 30% and every time I do something I need to write 'sudo command' along with my password...
XFCE4 is shit too. Fedora didn't even have the proprietary nvidia drivers installed but I needed to install those. Audio - I can press one button to toggle audio normalization in Windows but in Linux.. I need to install bunch of scripts and tweak for 30 minutes.
Adjusting mouse scroll wheel wasn't possible out of the box (I don't know why) but need to use external utility called 'imwheel'. Well my wheel begins to skip and automatically scroll if I use that so I need to use the default 1 line scroll. Never happened anything like this in Windows...
Etc. I'm thinking about wiping off this turd, what a GIANT waste of time.

tl;dr Could be much worse. Windows is actually damn cool for what it is. You get so much more control for everyday things. And I'm not a new user in this sense, I use vim for fuck sake.

It's not exactly what you're looking for but your GPU's driver software has a feature to save the buffer as a video (see Shadowplay/ReLive) and then you just take that and split it into frames if you wish, or watch the video in a player like mpv and step through frame by frame if that's better.

Otherwise if you think those are for fags I haven't really found any other option besides OBS's replay buffer which lets you close it when you're not using it. Similar to the above you just open OBS and enable the buffer, bind it to a hotkey of choice, set up the output (video formats), and then you can output to a folder which is watched by another program, runs a command, splits it with ffmpeg, etc.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, this is all I know. I'm sure some other anon will swoop in to correct me and you'll get your answer.

These days you can basically get an LTSC amount of extra 10 support via just using at least 10 Pro and running MAS's TSforge ESU activation, giving support until late 2028.

Oh okay so it's not really LTSC but it's similar huh? Nice. Whew, good I'm on 10 Pro I didn't even know there were tiers of 10 lol.

Funny, I once worked on a customer's PC a few days ago that had Manjaro on it (some tinkering they did made it unable to get past grub rescue, so they wanted to switch back to Windows). I managed to figure out how to make that kinda bootable, but I did see that it threw a fit if I had secure boot on

Home is the worst version, followed by Pro which is -less- worse, then you have Enterprise/Education which are the ones you should always be using. LTSC is just another variant of Enterprise.

Trying to install W11 LTSC on a newly built PC but I seem to be having an issue. Get my wireless drivers installed and then connected to the internet but about twenty minutes in it just blackscreens, fans still on and spinning but nothing. Trying to reboot just shows the motherboard logo and then goes back to black. Any advice?

might be the graphics driver? go into safe mode, if it works, try to uninstall the current one or install a previous version and see if that fixes it. Or are you suspecting it's the wireless driver?

Also check if your cables and hdmi ports are in good condition
