Seems like it can mean anything, totally dependent on role. I have a job writing sql and oracle pl/sql and I'm trying to branch out to a higher paying role and something involving data seems like the most logical next step, but I don't really know what to do

They are called engineers. These same engineers is what built bridges, aqueducts, roads, fortifications ect. The military still teaches its best and brightest these same/similar concepts to any kid that goes through the academy for its officers. Major reason is licensing. Real reason is that you can only call yourself that with experience since even in IT certs/masters degrees aren't everything. You do in fact solve big picture problems but only after a decade or more of job experience and a job that trusts you to create or solve these expensive problems.

Besides if a license is required then colleges would be required to adhere to that standard same way they do for engineering degrees with ABET accreditation. Most people don't want it neither do companies require it. Personally i would love it since it would for a filter on the industry to at least have some bare minimum IQ standards aka anti-jeet defence.

Does anybody on here know anything about working at aero/defense companies? I got an offer and it's pretty much the same as another offer but I have very little knowledge in the industry/space. Is there less pajeets in this industry or has aero/defense been sold out to India as well? Am trying to avoid them as much as possible. If you were in my shoes would you take the offer? my current job is almost guaranteed to get axed soon, and am looking for a new one.
