i've built many PCs, but now as an uncle i've been asked to build one for a nephew - they want lights. all the RGB shit i've never touched.
all i know is that i want both the lights and the fan speeds to be variable, controlled either through software or a physical dial/button somewhere i guess. maybe the lights relate to temperature, i dunno.
i saw this and thought "great, it has all the dumb shit already" but not clear if the motherboard can actually control the fan speed or not. any ideas here?

The fan speeds for that bundled case should be configurable through the motherboard BIOS, whether it is a DC or PWM fan.

I'm just unsure whether its thermals are alright. Even though TPU has done a review of the DX version I don't think their temp charts are noise normalized so it's not a fair comparison especially when the pure wings 3 fans are anemic compared to say the Fractal's momentum ones on the Meshify 3. The DX also has 3 fans vs the airflow's 2 but in a weird 1x intake 2x exhaust config which makes them even more different. Good to know that build quality is high though, thanks.

I only have the standard two intake fans and one exhaust fan on mine and it's fine with a Ryzen 3700x and RX 6700XT
I do run the case fans at mid speed during gaming though, and it is audible but the temps are very reasonable
If you use all the fan slots on the pure base (3 intake, 1 exhaust) and set up your fan curves right it should be good for normal/gaming use if If you're going to run an RTX 5090 and Ryzen 9950X3D I'd look at a more serious case though

Retard here, let me tell you what I did. I have an IPS 4k 60 LG monitor that worse than the Smasnug 1080 VA panel. 4k one was just sitting on my desk unused. I went to Picture mode and changed from HDR to REC.907 and it magically fixed everything. Check if you are using the correct settings on your monitors anon. Don't be stupid like me.

How stupid would it be to build a 5080 poverty rig right now? I wanted to go with 5070ti but I had an epiphany that cheaping out on everything BUT the gpu would allow me to go up a tier. This is for 1440p gaming, I like to keep my Pc for a looong time before upgrading so longevity is important factor.

i7-8700K and RTX 5070 Ti or 5080? I mostly play War Thunder, Minecraft etc in 4K. My current gpu 3060 12GB used to get 120 FPS with DLSS on Balanced, but after the recent update it barely hits 80, it's unplayable. The monitor can do 240Hz, but I keep it at 120Hz because of the HDMI 2.1 limitation on the 3060. I also want to run local AI models and 16GB VRAM feels kinda weak

It's closer to what I would build (assuming price isn't a big deal either way) but both options have their merits. Mainly that the first build would give you a better upgrade path - 7600 to Zen6 X3D - whereas the 7800X3D is probably good enough to outlast AM5. In 4K War Thunder, I'm heavily GPU-bound, the i7-8700K still has plenty of headroom for a better GPU. CPU usage is around 50% in 4K War Thunder, so I’d consider an RTX 5070, but it only has 12 GB of VRAM like my 3060, and I want more. unfortunately 32GB 5090 is way too expensive. Any experiences here with the AOC Q27G4ZD? Rtings hasn't reviewed a sample yet but other places seem to praise this seemingly extreme-budget level QD-OLED. Lowest price by far that I can see on my local stores.

Current monitor is a 165hz VA, and seems to be one of the few with very good VRR flicker reduction. The above OLED on the other hand seems typical of its type. Don't actually care about going all the way to 240 without using framegen, in fact I'd actually be fine just 2x while reaching base 90 frames for any AAA. Apparently going lower on the frames will help with VRR flicker (is it just that having consistent frames is the real winning move?).

Use case is general home use; after work hours and all day on weekends. I prefer the taskbar to be visible all the time but its a very dark color and I frequently use apps that are (borderless) fullscreen, so the taskbar pixels should be moving frequently enough unless its a really lazy day. Only concern then would be text legibility.

The PSU recommendations include the power requirements of other components and having some headroom after to be within the ideal spot on the PSU efficiency curve. Some flagship cards may also spike higher though the 5070 Ti is fairly stable staying at its rated power. You may still be alright with that 650W, but if its newly bought maybe consider returning it for a 750 or higher.

What sort of temps should a 9800x3d get with a 360 aio (frozen edge)? I used the paste that came with the cooler but it seemed incredibly dry and almost chalky (?) when I was applying it. I've never had any sort of liquid cooling and have no clue as to what temps i should be getting and whether to repaste or anything like that. Ambient is 19~20C.

RDNA2/3/4 GPUs are designed with an on-die L3 cache, which reduces these chips' reliance on raw GDDR memory bandwidth.

You're baiting but no, finewine is basically a meme. Major bugs being fixed isn't "finewine." The cards for like over a decade now have all been basically abandoned early on windows, and even on linux it's usually still worse than the equivalent nvidia card on windows, especially as you get into like Turing vs RDNA 1/2

It's making me idle at like 50°C but when stresstested it barely scrapes 70% even with Prime95.

this discussion has been going on since late 2022 btw, nobody wants that soapy grainy looking coating on their mini led screen and yet nobody has made anything better. even LG's usually good matte coating looked noticeably worse on their one mini led monitor that flopped. it's possible that what we are seeing is just the mini led array
