/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualisation. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavour of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

Why the fuck would you waste OP image on that disgusting trust fund whore that sleeps in cat shit.
You seriously can't be that down bad for that ultra saggy (before 20) bitch that clutches the push up bra.
I'm going to have to skip this one boys

Had a 3x8tb raid 10 for 5 years until a drive failed in it a few days ago. It was all shucked WD drives (WD white i believe). So I bought a new wd red plus and put it in and now it's rebuilding at 3mbps with an eta of 700 hours and the whole system r/w is insanely slow wtf. I tried a rebuild on the dead drive and it finished in 10 hours so no idea what's happening with this new drive

No i meant reservations
I have a subnet specifically for "limited access" and if you join and you're in the lease block you can't do anything. I have it seperated into sub blocks so i can monitor stuff. Ummm.. excuse me mr chinkshit ip cam why are you trying to send something to honk kong? Not on my watch. Same for roombas, eufy, etc...

Is it safe to self host bitwarden ?

I installed Coolify on an old laptop that I use for web hosting and some services like n8n, all behind Cloudflare.
I'd like to put all my passwords on the same server, and it seems crazy, but in theory it's safe, right? right?

You want some energy consuming monstrosity thats loud and at least 2U and has 8 drive bays and run a combo of a bunch of VMs and docker containers with kubernetes clusters with one of them being a Hashicorp vault just so you can store the boolean secret is_it_time_to_get_laid=False

>plan to turn the 8700k into proper server for VMs, containers, fast storage for games
>install 10gbe nic
>pull the GPU, put a 4 port M.2 adapter in its place, maybe upgrade the RAM
>run truenas scale on a separate boot drive
only downside i can think of is, my motherboard only has one 5G LAN port, so i need another NIC or a switch with 10G. am i overlooking anything?

Password manager is the one thing I cuck out on. I try hard to do everything myself, but I'll leave the password manager to people who know what they're doing lol. If you know what you're doing go for it. But if you're just fucking around with a home server as a hobby then it's a big risk to take.

anyone else here hosting local boorus? any tricks to make them more convenient? i thought about writing a little daemon that watches a folder for stuff i download there, prompts you for tags, then deletes it. i also thought about writing a shimmie2 KDE integration but the former solution is probably better.

Trying out btrfs on the data ssd of my mini pc with proxmox. Seems like a step up from the ext4 I've been using so far for OS + data disks.
Trying to figure out a good backup strategy with two unclustered nodes (2 mini PCs with 1x m.2 and 1x 2.5" SSD each) and an external HDD.
Leaning towards running proxmox backup server in an LXC or VM on one of the nodes and passing the USB HDD through, formatted as ext4. Backup VMs and containers to the HDD via PBS. Then (for starters) use btrfs (single data, dup metadata+system) on the data disks and have a script to make a snapshot and borg backup that to the HDD (via PBS?).
Then I just need to find a way to backup my client devices to the HDD over the network (desktop with windows 10, though might actually make the switch to linux soon, and perhaps my android phone if such a thing is possible).
I guess it would make sense to eventually move all the "hot" storage (OS + VM/CT + data) to btrfs and only use ext4 for the backup disk for easier disaster recovery.
If I had a bunch of spinning rust in a NAS kinda deal and enough RAM then ZFS looks like it might be a better option, especially for the self-healing data integrity, but probably not for these mini PCs that are rather storage constrained.

Bit of a noob here with a headscratcher.
I'm trying to host a webapp in a docker container and want to make said webapp accessible via my domain on a wesbserver running apache so I can access it anywhere. I have SSL configured so I want to expose the container through HTTPS. But whenever I try to do so, it's throwing an SSL error. This is where I learned about reverse proxying. I understand the concept but I don't know how to actually implement it.

I then looked into Traefik but I'm probably too dumb for all this because now I"m getting a conflicting port. Traefik is trying to listen to 80 which something apache is already listening to so I'm kind of stuck. Anyone please point me to the right direction or if this all even make sense or I just misunderstood it all.
