I've got 6 SATA Ports, 5 if using the M2_2 slot but yeah, those were from a time when buying 256GB and 512GB SSDs was the norm. And I struggle to use them for other machines, such as laptops but even despite that it still feels like a waste to sell those off especially if they have some mileage on them already.

My biggest problem is deciding where to put the operating system on, whether to partition that same drive, so I at least have one or two full 512GB drives available for something that isn't the OS. Because seeing like 5 different 256GB partitions when you open up your root directory is kind of a massive OCD alert even if theoretically it should be fine as long as you use the same directory structure between them. The power draw is another question.

Why do people seethe when you buy things or do things that aren't based on making bideo gayme faster?

Okay, now I understand why benchmark videos and even reviews have such a big discrepancy between the powerdraw of a RX9070 and a RTX5070.

Latter adapts way better to the demands of the game and the settings.
At stock in FHD it can be drawing around 170W even, while the RX9070 does not give a fuck and just keeps on demanding 220-230Watts.
And it's the same over different graphics settings and no difference between FHD and 4K either.
That's really weird.
Meanwhile the 5070 as soon as you enable e.g. RT, it jumps over 220 Watts, and it's the same with increase of resolution. At 4K it constantly draws 250W.

All in all this makes the 5070 the more efficient card, at FHD that is.

Pads require the right thickness, mounting pressure and compressibility to have good contact and even then they might not because of heatsink tolerances and component z-height. Less of an issue when the device is being made as the OEM knows exactly what their tolerances are and what pads to use, but it can be a pain in the ass for the user to replace as you don't know the exact brand/model of pad that was used even if you did get the thickness right.

Putty sidesteps all of that by being thermally conductive no matter how thick it is and is near infinitely compressible. The good shit can be stable for a really long time and unlike GB's "gel" it's super easy to peel off and roll it back into a ball to even reuse it.

And whether the airflow is better or worse kinda depends. Without case it's more accessible, yeah. But with a case, the airflow is more directed so cool air gets sucked in at the front and hot air gets exhausted at the back. And you can have underpressure or overpressure.
Without a case, it's more likely to wallow in its own piss, if your room has bad airflow.
So if the temps are fine, and you don't mind it getting dusty, and you don't accidentally break it by spilling or dropping something on the components, then it'll be fine indefinitely

I got a similar setup. It can still run dogshit games like MHWilds on High and 60 FPS. Only the VRAM (8 GB) is annoying.
We'll need to change the motherboard for AM5 socket to upgrade CPU one day. Honestly, I'm going for PSU 1000w and GPU upgrade (5070 Ti) and will play at 1440p or 4k. The VRAM gain will be enough.

Currently using a 27 inch screen at 720p and I sit 5-6 feet away. Upgrading to a 48 inch 4k screen and will keep the same distance. I'm worried all the icons in windows and games will be unreadable. That's why I went for the bigger screen but then forgot 4k will shrink everything.

Do you have fans in your PC? Then no. I never even thought about half this shit until I build this passive PC. For you, the fans would take care of it. For a passive PC, it's perpetually in a heat soak status, so transient heat spikes are a big no no.

also had to adjust my PSU earlier, it was just floating in the case and making a big cloud of heat. Had to compress it against one of the DB4 walls and use thermal pads to allow the heat to transfer.

Right now I'm using two of the walls for CPU heat radiation, and one for the PSU. The remaining wall I dont know what to do with yet, I think their intention is a GPU but IMO that's a waste of time and money when AMD has integrated graphics that can outperform a dedicated GPU in terms of TDP.

I don't play any other games and besides LLM's, the most I do is MCMC inference for masters schoolwork, and when I'm at work I keep a RTSP -> yolo -> deepsort -> reID stack -> influxDB stack running so I can track all the wildlife around my house across six cameras and study population dynamics of squirrels, chipmunks, turkeys, deer, coyotes, and so on. So far it doesn't work very well for anything but the deer(!?) which is still better than I hoped for. I could probably run metropolis on an orin unit and make it work faster but that's 1. faggy, 2. uses more power than a lightbulb (TDP 65W-110W avg on this PC).

Not sure if only thought this or if I already explained it, but I also consider the Framework desktop PC's as they contain AMD 395+ Max CPU's, but I would be required to run it with a fan, or have a custom cold plate machined for it with no guarantee that the heat would be dissipated adequately. For that reason, I went with the 8700G, which is mostly at 65W TDP and only under heavy loads exceeds 100W, so it should be enough for the DB4 case.

Oh uh, and here is a picture of when I was setting it up. It also looks pretty nice with the norbauer keyboard frame.

so a basic fan curve would be something like
up to 35C - 20% (minimum PWM)
45C - 30%
55C - 40%
65C - 50%

then you do a stress test like prime95 and see where it stabilizes at
if your cooler and case are good (and you aren't running a heavy overclock) you won't even hit 85C and normal loads will be under 65C

If you need Instant Replay (Shadow Play) video clips, OBS has a Replay Buffer option & Steam added a video highlight recording feature.

If you need a tool to swap DLSS versions, there are a few apps. The ones I know are DLSS Swapper & NVIDIA Profile Inspector.
NVIDIA App's overclocking was never better than Afterburner or other AIB's equivalent.

I keep NVIDIA App because the included DLSS swapper's good enough, and there are some games with too many graphics options to tinker around with.
I don't mind using the app's in-game settings optimization for titles like RDR2, with some manual adjustments for DLSS, FPS, etc.

If you decide to use the NVIDIA App, just make sure "Game filters and Photo mode" is disabled in the Settings tab, which uses up more CPU resources than it's supposed to.
It should be off by default.

Jusd Don't larp that nvidia is much better when they have awful efficiency for their halo card showing that 50 series is getting basically no performance uplift architecturally. Lower tier cards like 9070 and 9060 xt arent bad effiency and 9070 XT is over gassed from the factory to ensure stability, they can all pretty much be undervolted to 250-270 watts and get the same or better performance.

Reading through this bios manual and I just had an existential crisis moment. I know I'm not going to understand 90% of this shit and need to google and ask for help but I can't because I'm stuck in bios. So I'll have to write down or take pictures with my phone of everything, then load and look it up and then go back and hope I can get it all right and keep going back and forth.
